What has been happening – increasingly since the turn of the millennium – is the creation of new communities around online platforms based on collaboration, openness and sharing.
Being disruptive to the way of doing business as usual arranging society and lifeorganizing themselves as individuals and community
Its modus operandi is a kind of work around.
What the Occupy protesters have done:
Brought to the fore the interconnectedness of separate inequalities and their common, as well as distinct but interlinked, causes. How the Occupy protesters have done it:
Connected the dots and brought together the 99%. It gained - momentum and fast traction on the (grassroot)ground of self-organization and- high visibility by occupying public spaces- a new way of thinking and looking at concept by redefining the sense of occupation
The modus operandi of Occupy activism was:
Making visible the unjust in our society and making people aware of it.(demanding from the 1% to chance their top-down defraudation and destructive pattern by taking over, corrupting and abusing institutions.)

What the Occupy co-creators are doing:
Self-organized communities not just evolve on the net, but gain & occupy increasing presence in the material world.- And stay: boots on the ground.
How the Occupy co-creators are doing it:
- Creating new spaces and institutions or - Taking over traditional – sometime iconic - spaces and buildings and transforming them
Thus introducing different goals, rebase new sets of values experiment and establish new forms of interpersonal dealings.
The modus operandi of Occupy co-creator seem to be:
Co-creation instead of confrontation. Not fighting an unjust system, but to work on making the unjust system obsolete.
Examples of spaces & former institutions
getting a second life – bottom up.
In 2010 Ela Kagel, David Farine und Zsolt Szentirmai discovered the former supermarket. They convinced the owner, a housing cooperative, of their concept to turn the place into a space of coworking, events and creative experiments.

In 2003 Dida Zende turned the former petrol station into a multi-functional space for creative projects of all kind like a makers market, sauna fire truck for the neighbourhood, a yurt as an unconventional event location etc. Since then he has transformed petrol station in several countries.

In 2009 Bernhard Shaw turned the wasteland for over half a century into a famous urban gardening and communal meeting ground in the centre of Berlin-Kreuzberg

Airport 2.0In 2008 Tempelhof, the first airport in the world was closed down. In 2010 it was made accessible to the public and is now used as recreational area, urban gardening and free-style sports ground. It is know as the Tempelhofer Freiheit (Liberty)

In 2014 we were working and negotiating on taking over a former bank building and turning it into a (connecting) hub of the collaborative and civic economy in Berlin. Thus transforming a highly symbolic icon of the old economy into an entity of the new economy, which is animated with openness, collaboration and sharing.

Questions for discussion:Which places of the old (fossil, dinosaur) economy can be / will be transformed and reinvented. Examples and where are they?
How might these local initiatives turn into an organically grown solid foundation for a collaborative and sharing city and society?
What have the Occupy 1.0 and 2.0 (Sharing) Movement in common.How should they collaborate?
What if we “occupied” buildings to create a culture of sustainable urban development based on sharing and approaching global transformation through local initiatives?
What if we Occupied Language? How to Occupy Y/Our Imagination?
