largest crowd present at a ball game in recent years turned out yes- terday ¬ afternoon to witness the game between Gainesvilles Oak Halls and Ocala The grandstand was literally packed with members of the fair sex all gaily bedecked with the colors of their favorites The bleachers were filled and to the right of the diamond- the automobile and carriage line ex ¬ I tended to right field anti began again- at left field and with spectators stand ing on the foul line ran back to the grandstand The attendance was esti ¬ mated from 1000 to 1500 Gainesville alone having 500 rooters present Jake Gerig umpired the game and did It well controlling the crowd and renderin gthe most Impartial decisions or any umpire we have seen Hines and Bullock composed Gainesvilles battery and Brown and McConnac played opposite them for Ocala- In the second inning Gainesville made two scores and the Ocala base- ball ¬ enthusiasts soon saw that our team was up against the real thing Ocala tried hard to score but during- the whole game never advanced a man as far as third base although a runner was on second several times Brown- was hit freely eight iiits being record- ed ¬ against him during the game but- if he had had the proper support both- in the field and at bat there might have been a different score to tell the story Gainesville has gotten together one of the fastest teams in the state the infield work of the team winning the admiration of the spectators although their sympathy was with the losing side The Oak Halls played faultless- ball and never made an error during- the game Ocala made five costly errors and runners were caught on second with little trick plays that have been used here at home so long that the specta ¬ tors saw what was coming when a man was put out In this manner The Ocala boys would do well to practice up on team work taking the Oak Halls lesson yesterday as an ex- ample ¬ We have the players and with the proper practice and coaching will win the games- St Augustine plays here today and tomorrow Things will be more equal in these games as St Augustine plays- an amateur home team like our own and some good baseball awaits those who go to the The Star has received several re¬

quests lately from prominent owners-of automobiles to urge upon the own ¬

OAK HALLS WIN FROM OCALA

The largest crowd present at a ballgame in recent years turned out yes-terday

¬

afternoon to witness the gamebetween Gainesvilles Oak Halls andOcala The grandstand was literallypacked with members of the fair sexall gaily bedecked with the colors oftheir favorites The bleachers werefilled and to the right of the diamond-the automobile and carriage line ex ¬

Itended to right field anti began again-at left field and with spectators standing on the foul line ran back to thegrandstand The attendance was esti ¬

mated from 1000 to 1500 Gainesvillealone having 500 rooters present

Jake Gerig umpired the game anddid It well controlling the crowd andrenderin gthe most Impartial decisionsor any umpire we have seen Hinesand Bullock composed Gainesvillesbattery and Brown and McConnacplayed opposite them for Ocala-

In the second inning Gainesvillemade two scores and the Ocala base-ball

¬

enthusiasts soon saw that ourteam was up against the real thingOcala tried hard to score but during-the whole game never advanced a manas far as third base although a runnerwas on second several times Brown-was hit freely eight iiits being record-ed

¬

against him during the game but-if he had had the proper support both-in the field and at bat there mighthave been a different score to tell thestory

Gainesville has gotten together oneof the fastest teams in the state theinfield work of the team winning theadmiration of the spectators althoughtheir sympathy was with the losingside The Oak Halls played faultless-ball and never made an error during-the game

Ocala made five costly errors andrunners were caught on second withlittle trick plays that have been usedhere at home so long that the specta ¬

tors saw what was coming when a manwas put out In this manner

The Ocala boys would do well topractice up on team work taking theOak Halls lesson yesterday as an ex-ample

¬

We have the players and withthe proper practice and coaching willwin the games-

St Augustine plays here today andtomorrow Things will be more equalin these games as St Augustine plays-an amateur home team like our ownand some good baseball awaits thosewho go to the South Magnolia streetdiamond v
