This book is dedicated to my family. Not just my biological family but my graphic design family as well. I would not be what I am now if it was not for all of you.

My obsession is active lettering and the connection between graffiti and street art with typography. Personally I come from a very studio art driven background. Coming from that type of background I use many different forms than that of a designer that has purely had a design background. What I really enjoy doing is taking those “artsy” elements from drawing and paint-ing, and transforming them into work for design, and using those forms as design. A lot of designers and artists would like to think that their individual works are very different; I believe that is completely wrong. There are so many relations between “art” and “design”. This book was created in an effort to show the relations between graffiti and street art design around the world with graphic design typography. How these two are becoming more and more related as designers step into the world of things like “calligraffiti” is very interesting to me. I want this book to feature several examples of street art and typography so that myself and others can further analyze the relationship between the two, but also I want this book to be able to be picked up and evoke inspiration for myself in the future. Having this book in the future means that I myself and maybe someone else will have a tool to use to get back on the right track. I can only hope that everyone enjoys this topic as much as I do. Thank you and enjoy.

I wanted to create this book to be a future reference. This will be a reference for myself and those who tend to get stuck when designing. Taking two things such as street art and design lettering, and placing them next to one another and analyzing just what makes them tick is a good way to keep fresh. This book will be a constant reminder to me that when you dig deep and make true connections to the meaning of your work you will get more out of it, and ultimately yield a better result. I will always love the relation between street art and design, I only hope that the love carries forward into my future to be even stronger than today.
