The BCIT Marketing Association (BCITMA) strives to be the student club of choice for students in the BCIT School of Business. Our mission is to provide members the opportunity to enhance their education through networking opportunities, professional development, community involvement, and education on leading marketing topics.

TARGET MARKET

The BCITMA is open to all students in the BCIT School of Business, however, the vast majority of its members are enrolled in the two year Marketing Management diploma program. BCIT students have seven to eight courses a semester and are also encouraged by their peers and instructors to get involved in extracurricular activities. Despite the time management difficulties, student clubs, like the BCITMA, are acknowledged because of professional development benefits.

The two main target markets for the BCITMA are: + Primary – First and second year BCIT Marketing Management students + Secondary – BCIT School of Business students in Operations and Project Management, Journalism and Broadcast, Business Administration and HR Management, Digital Arts and Graphic Design

+ Increase membership to 117 AMA paying members and achieve a member satisfaction level of 85%.+ Reobtain Gold standing at the AMAICC+ Host a Regional Conference with 140 attendees+ Regain top spot at AMAICC Case competition+ Maintain relationship with the BC American Marketing Association (BCAMA) by attending their events and inviting professional members to speak at our collegiate chapter events+ Raise over $9,000 for community fundraisers and projects+ Acquire $10,000 in sponsorship (in-kind and monetary) for the club+ Bring in $1,000 through consulting initiatives+ Fundraise $15,000 for members to attend the AMAICC through on-campus and off-campus initiatives

Professional Development will hold networking events and panels that will teach students the appropriate skills to enter the work force. The events will focus on building a strong network, and how to become successful in the industry.

On November 19, the BCITMA will organize a Sales Panel. This event will coach students on how to execute each area in the sales process. This includes building rapport, giving a high level overview of the company’s value proposition, asking good questions to identify needs, and overcoming objections. The panel consists of 6 industry professionals from reputable companies like TEKsystems, Sales Talent Agency, and HP. The goal of this event is to help students develop their own unique selling approach by listening to experienced sales professionals.Goal: 40 attendees (30 members, 10 non-members)

This year’s Sports Marketing Speaker Panel will be held in January and will help attendees gain perspective in regards to the large variety of professions available for marketing students. Speakers will range from sales to marketing, and will include companies such as: Vancouver Canucks, BC Lions, Whitecaps, Vancouver Canadians and Vancouver Giants.Goal: 75 attendees (50 members, 25 non-members)

CONNECT. CREATE. CAPTIVATE. November 12, January 7, February 18

Connect Create Captivate, is a three part speaker series that allows students to gain knowledge of the marketing industry and add valuable skills for their entry into the workforce. For each series, there will be industry professionals to elaborate on topics such as networking, the creative side of marketing, digital and social media marketing, and branding.Goal: 60 attendees (50 BCITMA members, 10+ non members)

MEDIA PANEL NIGHT, November 2015

Industry professionals in media buying and media selling will discuss potential career opportunities for communications and sales students.Goal: 80 attendees

SCHMOOZE 101, January 21, 2016This event is an intro to networking for first and second year students, in preparation for Schmoozapalooza. Six past communications students will answer questions on the internship proccess and provide valuable insights.Goal: 30 attendees

BCITMA Regional Conference

The BCITMA is hosting its fourth annual Marketing Week from October 5th-9th. This week will allow students to develop new skills, and learn about the growing trends in the marketing world today. All topics covered in the three speakers’ series, agency tour, and networking event will relate to the students in the communications, sales, entrepreneurship, real estate, and tourism program. The theme for this year is “The ABC’s of MKTG: Steps to Success.”

Hootsuite Tour 2.0 - November 4, 2015Back by popular demand, is another tour of Vancouver-based tech company Hootsuite. Students will get a chance to tour through the Hootsuite headquarters offices and get an inside view of how a social-media-management company runs their day-to-day operations. The tour will be followed up by a Q & A session with some of Hootsuite’s marketing team. Goal: 25 attendees

BCITMA will be hosting its fourth annual Regional Conference at the BCIT Downtown Campus. The theme this year will be market segmentation and strategy. The conference will be held on January 16 and will include + Keynote speakers + Sales Competition + Case Study Competition, with a $500.00 cash prize + Networking opportunities Goal: 120 attendees (60 MA members, 20 non-members, and 40 students from other schools)

Marketing in the Craft Beer Industry - January 20, 2016This tour is designed to give an inside look to the vibrant craft beer industry in Vancouver. Club members will get the opportunity to tour some of the local breweries like Postmark Brewing and Granville Island Brewing Co. Goal: 15 attendees

123W Agency Tour - February 10, 2016This tour is designed to give an inside look at one of Vancouver’s most innovative advertising agencies. Members will get a firsthand look at the ad world and gain an understanding of the ad process from the brief to the press. Goal: 25 attendees

Break the Internet - October 6, 2015To educate students about how to use social media for self-branding and networking purposes. Shane Gibson – Author, keynote speaker, sales trainer, and social media analyst Goal: 30 attendees

The BCITMA will pair with TEKsystems to host one of the larger sales competitions of the year. The sales competition will be exclusively for BCITMA members. Although the sales contest will be held in January, TEKsystems will be hosting multiple sales training seminars to aid students with bettering their sales skills, for both the competition and the workforce.

Schmoozapalooza is the largest networking event put on by students in the Marketing Program. Schmoozapalooza connects students to potential mentors for their second year internships. The event also provides alumni with an opportunity to stay involved with the school, future grads and marketing industry. In addition to the outstanding networking component, the event is for a great cause as all profits are donated to the Carroll Nelson Endowment Fund. Funds are then awarded to students through various scholarships.

Fundraising is vital to BCITMA’s success and participation in the AMA Collegiate Conference. The BCITMA hosts numerous events and activities, and execute sponsorship initiatives to raise funds in order to maintain chapter operations and provide a reimbursement program for members who travel to the AMAICC.

Goals:1. To raise a minimum of $14,500 in sponsorship + To receive $10,000 in sponsorship from external entities. + To receive $2,000in sponsorship from the BCIT’s School of Business + To receive $2,500 from the BCITSA2. Raise a minimum of $10,000 in funds from ticket sales to MA events and parties.3. To raise a minimum of $1,500 through Consulting, offering marketing services to external clients.

Krispy Kreme Donut SalesFollowing the success of last year, the BCITMA will be hosting four Krispy Kreme donut sales where BCITMA members will be selling donuts to faculty and students.

Goal: To Raise $250 through each sale. Total sales: 4

Bake SaleThe BCITMA will host two themed bake sales. The first will be to raise funds for the CIBC Run for the Cure for breast cancer. The second bake sale will take place on Valentine’s day.

Goal: To Raise $350 through sales

Pie-Athalon - FIrst Year Liason DrivenBCITMA’s Pie-athalon is one of the most visible, awareness generating and fun events the BCITMA puts on. Students and staff are invited to come up to the BCITMA booth and “pie” each other, paying between $2 and $5 to toss whip-cream pies at friends or faculty members.

Expanding Connections - October 10, 2015This BCITMA social will be featured as the wrap-up event for Marketing Week. Industry professionals, as well as other campus clubs, local AMA collegiate chapters and the BCAMA will be invited to attend at CAVOGoal: To raise $1,000 through ticket sales

Corporate SponsorshipEach year the BCITMA has received sponsorshipfrom the BCIT School of Business. This year the MAhas made the objective to expand its sponsorships toinclude at least five external sources.

Goal: Provide members with experience in business-to-business sales through acquiring monetary sponsors. Raise $10,000 in donations in sponsorship, $7,000 from sources outside of BCIT.

MA Consulting is a division of the BCITMA that is responsible for providing marketing assistance to profit and non-profit organizations. Compensation for consulting efforts will be given back to the BCITMA in monetary form, but the BCITMA will still provide consulting work to clients for free or for an exchange of non-monetary products and services. This year, the Corporate Relations committee will work with Cobs Bakery on Main Street, a local bakery that wants to build on its social media strategy to raise awareness. The Corporate Relations committee will also carry out some market research for ZayZoon, a Calgary-based lending/tech start up trying to understand consumer’s opinion about money lending companies.

Goals: Two business development projects completed with $1,000 raised

PartnershipsThe BCITMA will be looking for partners to providedonations as incentives, rewards, or giveaways formember performance. In exchange, the partnercompanies will recognition on our website, Twitter page and BCITMA app.

Goal: To raise $2,000 worth of in-kind donations

Winter Social - December 11, 2015To celebrate a successful first semester, an end-of-semester party will be hosted at a local establishment where students will be able to relax and mingle. This event will be open to all students in the Marketing Management program and will be a great opportunity for networking in a social environment.Goal: To raise $1,500 through ticket sales

6th Annual Fashion Show - Februrary 19, 2016Committee members will bring together local designers, models, and makeup artists to collaborate in a social evening in Downtown Vancouver. This event will be a great networking opportunity for attendees, and will allow organizers to improve the public relations and advertising skills they have learned in class.Goal: To raise $3,000 through ticket sales

Destination Snow - January 29-31, 2016At the end of January, the executive board and members of BCITMA will travel together through Destination Snow, and attend a fun weekend of team bonding at Big White Ski Resort. This event will be open to all BCIT students and will help build team cohesion during the second semester.Goal: To have 20 students attend and raise $400

Halloween Social - October 30, 2015This year’s Halloween Social will involve a costume specific theme. This event will encourage individuals to interact with new students and give an opportunity for attendees to relax amidst their hectic schedules.Goal: To raise $1,500 through ticket sales

Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Run for the Cure - October 4 2015The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Run for the Cure is the largest national single-day fundraiser. Throughout September, students will fundraise for this cause and then in October BCITMA members will participate in this run to make a difference. The BCITMA will incorporate digital media into a social media strategy to raise awareness, increase participation, and fundraise within the BCITMA and BCIT student population.Goal: 18 members pledging to fundraise $3000. Proceeds go to the cancer prevention, early detection, improving treatment, and providing community support.

Movember - Ongoing throughout month of NovemberBCITMA will partner with Movember Canada to raise awareness and funds in support of prostate cancer. Men will also have the opportunity to grow their moustache in support of Movember and female members will promote the cause as well as raise funds. Members will create a viral social media campaign raising prostate cancer awareness amongst the student population. The month long campaign will include events and competitions with all proceeds supporting the charity. Goals: Create a month long fundraising campaign for the Movember Foundation with all proceeds going towards prostate cancer research and treatment. Raise $2000 in fundraising.

Holiday for the Homeless - December 1-11 2015BCITMA will run a toiletry and clothing drive to help the homeless and less fortunate living in Vancouver’s downtown East Side. BCITMA members will distribute these packages in early December, in time for the Christmas holiday.Goal: 10 members participating to create 40 care packages with toiletries and clothing.

Post-Holiday Cupboard Clean Out - January 4-15Following the Christmas holidays, BCITMA will hold a food drive to help replenish the local food banks, in a time where they are in high demand. Through a social media campaign, the BCITMA will take advantage of holiday resolutions to incentivize the BCIT community to donate non-perishable goods. Goal: Collect 250 non-perishable food items from the BCIT and BCITMA community to support local families facing the daily hardship of hunger.

Dress for Success Workshops - November 18 and February 24BCITMA Members will help under-privileged women in the Greater Vancouver Area transition into the workforce by helping them learn valuable skills in job searching and interview preparation. Clothing donations will also be gathered to help our clients “dress for success”.Goals: Facilitate two workshops for Dress for Success regarding LinkedIn, focusing on the importance of personal branding and how to market yourself. 10 members participating.

High School Outreach Workshop - March 4, 2016Every year BCITMA members mentor high school students to help with their professional development and ensure they are work ready. Goal: To host one workshop focusing on resumes and cover letters, interview skills, and LinkedIn profile optimization, 90% satisfaction rating from the teachers and students.

West Coast Assistance Teams - Ongoing in April and MayBCITMA will undertake a new initiative involving a local charity called West Coast Assistance Teams. This charity provides assistance dogs to the disabled population and is starting a program involving at-risk youth.Goal: BCITMA will provide pro bono marketing consulting and expertise to a charity that needs increased exposure for two months. This includes writing press releases, developing relationships with and contacting media and booking events with their critical partners.

The BCITMA’s Community Service Committee will support local charities and initiatives by participating in communityfundraising as well as provide marketing consulting to local organizations that need assistance.Goals:+ Raise a minimum of $9,000 for various community events.+ Assist at least three clients with marketing consulting achieving at least 90% satisfaction for clients.+ Participate in at least four community outreach programs.

The BCITMA works diligently every year to attract the most motivated and capable students BCIT has to offer. The events held by the BCITMA showcase the students’ talents while connecting them with their relevant industries. Due to the time constraints presented by a full-course workload, the goals for Membership emulate the need to increase and maintain member participation throughout the school year. Goals:+ Increase total membership by 10% to 117 members+ Maintain active participation by 85% of members throughout the school year + Average 65% attendance at each General Meeting, held once a month + Increase member satisfaction to 87.5% throughout the academic school year

PointsMembers earn points based on attendance, which go towards awards, recognition, and funding for the AMA Collegiate Conference in New Orleans. Recognition and funding are the two main incentives for active participation as the Collegiate Conference is the largest expense for members during the school year.

Member of the MonthAt the beginning of every month, a member will be recognized for outstanding work or contributions to the BCITMA. Each Member of the Month will receive a letter of acknowledgement and recognition at the General Meeting, newsletter and on social media outlets. Executives are exempt.

RECRUITMENT

Orientation Day - September 8, 2015Goal: Receive contact information for at least 110 prospective members.

Club Bazaar- September 16, 2015Goal: Sign up 20 new members in the four hour span of Club Bazaar. Rank in most interactive clubs.

Info Session - September 23, 2015Goal: Register 75 students.

RETENTION

Mingler Night - October 9, 2015Provide an opportunity for members in first and second year to meet and interact in a casual and comfortable environment.

REVS Bowling - October 23, 2015Meant to continue an event from last year, to begin an annual event. One which new members can look forward to, to provide them an opportunity to network and meet other members.

Adopt-a-family - December 2015The chapter will act together to bring a local family the necessities for a meaningful Christmas Eve and Day.

MEMBERSHIP

Community ConsultingCommunity Relations students will partner with a local non-profit and provide their marketing expertise to help its start-up venture. Goal: 12 BCITMA members will provide their marketing skills to help develop and enrich the business of a non-profit, with 90% satisfaction rating from clients.

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONInternal and external communications is key to the BCITMA, as it is our gateway to keeping the flow of information steady within the club, and promoting our events and initiatives externally.Goals: 85% awareness of MA events and activities 40% of MA events promoted and acknowledged through channels external to the MA

Each General Meeting will have an industry professional to offer their valuable insights and expertise to members.

Committee MeetingsCommittee meetings are held on a weekly basis so thatmembers have an opportunity to work on projects andcommunicate with one another on current initiativesbeing planned and executed.

NewsletterThe MA Insider is a bi-weekly newsletter that keeps MAmembers up to date with events as well as club andindividual member accomplishments. It is distributed biweeklyvia Mail Chimp.Goal: 200 subscribers with an open rate of 70%.

Website – www.BCITMA.caThe club website is teh center of BCITMA online communication; external promotions such as social media posts and on-campus posters will redirect traffic to the website. Goals: 900 unique visits and 45 different blog posts by 10different contributors by March2016.

Facebook GroupsWith BCITMA members all being on Facebook, we tookthis opportunity to use its groups feature as an outlet ofinternal communication.Goal: To improve viewership the overall reach of BCITMA content from 320 to 400.

BCITMA AppBCITMA has partnered with Quikmobile to create an app to faciliate internal communications. The app provides up-to-date information, including events, speaker profiles, sponsors, and a member directory. Goal: 75% of members using the BCITMA app for internal communications

TwitterWith over a 1,000 followers, Twitter allows the BCITMAto connect with its followers quickly and efficiently, andpromote its marketing events and initiatives put on by theBCITMA.Goal: Increase by 100 followers by May 2016 for a total of1354.

FacebookThe BCITMA’s Facebook page gives both members andnon-members quick access to BCITMA photos, eventhighlights, and links to marketing buzz happening inVancouver and around the world.Goal: Increase likes for a total of 932 likes on the BCITMAFacebook page by May 2016. The number of likes at thebeginning of the year was 832.

LinkedInThe BCITMA LinkedIn group will keep all members andalumni up to date with networking events and mentorshipopportunities that the club hosts.Goal: Increase membership to a total of 400 by May 2016.

WebsiteThe BCITMA website allows direct access to marketing,networking and professional development information.The website features direct sign-up to the BCITMAnewsletter and in-depth information on the BCITMA andits members.Goal: 800 unique visits and 45 different blog posts by 10different contributors by March 2016.

On-Campus AdvertisingBCITMA’s Advertising & Promotions committee createson-campus promotions, gaining valuable designexperience and promoting marketing events to nonmarketers.

Posters and video screens will be usedfor campus wide, student exposure, and BCIT’s radiobroadcasting department will run 30-second BCITMApromo ads every second week on Evolution 107.9 radio.Goal: 5% of ticket sales for BCITMA events are sold tonon-members.

The BCITMA Executive Retreat ran from August 15 2015, to August 16 2015. It provided the executive board theopportunity to discuss roles and responsibilities, strategize for the next year, and set realistic and measurable goals forindividual committees as well as the club as a whole.Goals: Receive Gold standing at the AMAICC; increase club cohesion.
