Below is a list of updates: Demountable classrooms: Demountable classrooms are being installed next to the Kindergarten rooms. These will be 2/3 Daisy and 3/4 Waratah’s new classrooms. It is difficult to provide an exact timeframe for when they will be completed as there are lots of services that need to be connected and compliance checks. The most recent approximation is in one week’s time. We are really excited about using these spaces. School Notes App: The school has purchased an application called School Stream that will allow us to send and receive school notes. This will have a significant positive impact on the environment as well as make life easier for you. No more lost notes or crumpled notes at the bottom of school bags. You will also be sent reminders until the note is returned to help make sure your child does not miss out on important events. More information to come soon. Image from P&C

Welcome Back

It has been wonderful to see all of our students and families back this year. We are also very excited to welcome our new Kindergarten students and families who have had an amazing start to the year! You may have a noticed some developments around the school. Below is a list of updates: • Demountable classrooms: Demountable

classrooms are being installed next to the Kindergarten rooms. These will be 2/3 Daisy and 3/4 Waratah’s new classrooms. It is difficult to provide an exact timeframe for when they will be completed as there are lots of services that need to be connected and compliance checks. The most recent approximation is in one week’s time. We are really excited about using these spaces.

• School Notes App: The school has purchased an application called School Stream that will allow us to send and receive school notes. This will have a significant positive impact on the environment as well as make life easier for you. No more lost notes or crumpled notes at the bottom of school bags. You will also be sent reminders until the note is returned to help make sure your child does not miss out on important events. More information to come soon.

10 points for…

New and Improved Bear Tickets: This year we are revamping our PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) system thanks to suggestions from our parents and community. Now – in a similar fashion to Harry Potter – students can earn points for their sport houses for following our schools rules of being safe, respectful learners. Continuing on with our student voice project, our students will decide what the prizes will be each term for the winning house with a larger reward at the end of each semester.

A huge thank you to Miss Goyen for revamping our bear tickets and to Mr Saysanith for his work with PBL. Canteen Menu: The school is working closely with the Department of Education to improve our Canteen Menu so that it aligns with the healthy canteen strategy. We have already made lots of changes to our menu this year including some incentives to make healthier choices. This is all thanks to the tremendous efforts of Moniq Oh (our canteen manager) and Miss Tran (our Live Life Well Coordinator). They will continue to work together this year to make improvements to the menu. You can help us out by encouraging your child to purchase healthy items from the canteen. Many of our canteen helpers had children in Year 6 last year so are no longer available to help at the school. We are looking for volunteers to help at the canteen on Mondays and Fridays Use this link and select which day suits you best: http://volunteersignup.org/9QPTD Hours are between 9am – 10.30am and 12.30pm - 2.30pm. Thank you! Have a great fortnight, Miss Gould

Life Skills Go Over the next few weeks students in Years 1-6 will start using a new online program called Lifeskills Go. This is an interactive program that teaches students about the importance of social, emotional and physical well-being. They will learn about topics including self, social and physical awareness, positive relationships and decision making. A HUGE thanks to Miss Smallhorn who won this free annual subscription for our school at a LifeSkills conference (normally priced at $20 per student, per year). Mrs Harley

Library News 2019 Library lessons Term 1 will be held on either a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

Library borrowing has started for all classes with Kindergarten starting next week.

Class dojo will update you on which day your child has library when there is a change of regular routine at the beginning of the year.

Pack your books into your library bag and put into your school bag the night before so that you are ready for a great year of reading and learning each week in library.

Library bags can be purchased from the school office.

Each week Oatlands students visit the library for one hour where they borrow a book and participate in literacy and tlessons. Books are borrowed for one week at a time only.

UPDATE- Premiers Reading Challenge 2019 has started

The website is not up and running until March however students can read and keep a paper log which they can type into the website when it is ready. Students will have some time in library lessons to complete this, however books can also be logged from home.

Visit the PRC WEBSITE by logging onto the internet and typing in PRC. This will take you to the NSW Premiers Reading Challenge.

Oatlands students are welcome to borrow and return books, play board games, colour, draw, read and access the laptops during lunchtimes on Thursdays and Fridays from Week 4.

Library has an exciting number of events planned for 2019:

• Premiers Reading Challenge • Author Visit • Book Fair • Book Character Parade • Book Week

Remember- “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

―From Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

Welcome back to all the students and teachers. Hope you had an amazing

break over the holidays. We also welcome the new kindergarten

students and families and wish them all the best for this year!

During vacation care, the children at Helping Hands had a blast doing lots

of fun and exciting activities. They included hiring a jumping castle, nerf war games, excursions to lollipops playland/laser tag, bowling and sky zone. We hope to see new

children come and join in on the fun during the next holidays.

Parents please note: If you are picking up your children early from school in the afternoons or your child is absent, please inform the carers at Helping Hands. This saves us time trying to locate

your missing child.

Also, parents please remember to label everything that your child brings to school. That includes hats, jackets, drink bottles, pencil cases, homework books, EVERYTHING!!! There is a lost

property box located in the hall as well as the school office. Feel free to come and have a look.

We are always looking forward to meeting new children and families. If you are new or need care for your children, helping hands is the place to be. You can enroll your children online on our

website at https://www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au/

Our Service times are 6:30am to 8:30am and 2:30pm to 6:00pm during school. Any questions, feel free to contact the coordinator, Tamara Cotton at Helping Hands Oatlands on
