A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
Spirit Week and Homecoming have to be among the top five events of my school year and I am sure that
this view is shaed by many in the PHS community.
During Spirit Week, students get a chance to come together to finish window painting at PHS and
preparing floats for the upcoming Homecoming Parade. Additionally, there are a number of sports
events planned at home wherein students have the chance to support one another in their endeavors.
A list of these events can be found on the Athletics link from our website.
Beyond the above, students are able to dress up for each day's theme and to have some fun. This
week's themes are as follows:
• Tuesday: Twin Day
• Wednesday: Hawaii Day
• Thursday: Character Day
• Friday: Spirit Day
Homecoming will begin in earnest on Friday, October 12th• We will have a pep rally in the gym and
teams will be introduced. Class competitions follow these introductions. After school, there are a
number of sports events planned and the PHS Community-School Organization (CSO} will be sponsoring
a free barbecue for all students in the concession stand. All sports should finish around 8:15 on Friday,
and we will have a bonfire near the tennis courts as long as the weather cooperates. Finally, the CSO
will sponsor a scavenger hunt from 8:45-10:45 for teams of four students with a parent driver.
On Saturday, the Homecoming Parade will start at Stafford Middle School with representation from
every school in the district. The parade will begin at noon and end at Plattsburgh High School at
approximately 12:45. The Homecoming Football Game will start at 2:00 at the athletic complex. At
halftime, this year's Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized. The last event of the day will be
the Homecoming Dance, which will run from 7 to 10 pm.
Because this is a shortened week, we are extending Spirit Week to include next Monday, October 15th•
On that day, we are asking everyone to wear pink in support of the Volleyball team's "Volley for a Cure"
match against Beekmantown.

News and Reminders from the PHS Guidance Office:
PSAT exams will be administered on Wednesday, October 10th, during periods 1-6. To take the
test, students need to sign up in the Guidance Office and give their payment to Mrs. Schudde,
the Guidance Secretary.
Seniors were given Senior Brag Sheets for their respective counselors. The brag sheets help us
with the creation of the students' college application letters. So far, very few have been turned
in by senior students. We hope that you can encourage your children to get these in as soon as
possible in order to assist us with the college application process. The school counselors would
also like you to know that they are happy to assist you with any questions that you have about
the college application process. They can be reached as follows:
Last Names: School Counselor: Phone Extension: E-Mail:
A-F Mrs. LaPage 5075 [email protected]
G-Mn Mr. Feazelle 5072 [email protected]
Mo-Z Mrs. Tisdale 5074 [email protected]

this time.

Contact Information for CAP and AP Courses:
We have a number of advanced courses that are offered at PHS and we're proud that the number of
students taking them, and the number of courses offered seem to be growing.
College Advanced Placement, or CAP, courses are offered through dual-enrollment at a college and
students who pay for tuition are able to earn college credits. CAP courses at PHS are offered through
Clinton Community College and the Rochester Institute of Technology. The CAP Coordinators at PHS are
Anna La Hart and Jordan Oshier. Both of these teachers can be reached through e-mail should you have
any questions about CAP courses.
Advanced Placement, or AP, courses are offered through College Board. Students in these courses have
the opportunity to take the AP exam in May for a fee and may earn the equivalent of college credit if
they score a 3 or above on the exam. Our AP Coordinator for this year is Louis Piccirillo and he, too, can
be reached via e-mail to answer questions or address concerns.

There is a lot happening this year in Creative Arts Club. Participation is higher than ever before! So far this year we have students breaking into various groups. Last week some students met to write collaborative stories. This week those students illustrated those stories. Other students have been busy planning for a school wide-music video. Another group of students created collaborative monster drawings (pictured below). Creative Arts Club has also been recruited to paint our new logo in various places of school this year!
