MY OFFERINGS: ACTIVE PARISHIONER STATUS
We receive many requests from parishioners to qualify for weddings or to be godparents or sponsors for the
Sacraments of Baptism and/or Confirmation, and to rightfully enjoy the number of services offered at the Church.
Part of that request is to be able to verify that a person is an “active member” of the Parish.
Because of the nature of our parish, having so many visitors from other parishes, it is difficult to know everyone.
AN “ACTIVE MEMBER” OF THIS PARISH IS ONE WHO...
Is properly registered and on the parish census
Faithfully attends Mass on Sundays and Holy Days
Participates in parish activities when possible
Uses the parish envelope system
While assessments of an inquirer’s status will be made individually, the above are the main factors that will be considered in making that determination.
We are asking you to get more involved in
the Celebration of the Mass.
How can you do that?
By volunteering to become a:
•Hospitality Minister
•Lector •Music Ministry •Altar Server
•Eucharistic Minister

Giving of our time, talent and treasure mainly involves
a change of attitude about giving. It’s important to
think in terms of giving in gratitude to God, of
considering how blessed we are, of using our gifts and
talents for the good of others. Consider sharing your
treasure with Holy Rosary - St. Richard Church by
including the parish in your will. For more information
on estate planning, contact the rectory or call the
Office of Planned Giving at (305) 762-1110.
“…whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.” - MATTHEW 10:38
Pope Benedict XVI said “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort, you were made for greatness”. Choosing “comfort” puts me first. “Picking
up your cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why would you settle for comfort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up your cross, put yourself in Jesus’ hands and ask for guidance on using your gifts
then live the life God has intended for you!

Second Reading Romans 6:3-4,8-11

Gospel Reading
Matthew 10:37-42
Jesus outlines the costs and rewards of discipleship.
Background on the Gospel Reading
Today’s Gospel is the conclusion of the instructions and consolations that we have heard Jesus
offering to his disciples during the past few weeks. In this passage, Jesus summarizes both the
costs of discipleship and its rewards. Once again our understanding of the Gospel is strengthened
by considering the context in which it was written and the perspective of Matthew’s audience.
The conditions of discipleship outlined in Matthew’s Gospel may appear harsh. Yet they
underline for us a truth—choosing anything with one’s whole heart has consequences. Choosing
life with Christ means that every relationship we have must be understood from a new
perspective. For many in Matthew’s community, this choice brought division to their family.
Matthew also outlines the reward of hospitality offered to Jesus’ followers. In today’s Gospel,
Jesus explains the difficulties of discipleship, yet reveals that those who welcome the disciples
have also welcomed him.
Today’s Gospel also highlights for us the importance of hospitality in the Christian life. To
welcome another in Jesus’ name is to extend hospitality to Jesus himself. We have many
opportunities in our daily life to reach out to others, to be a welcoming presence and a sign of
God’s love.

SACRAMENTAL OFFERINGS
A beautiful way to remember our deceased loved ones or to mark a special moment is to donate the Bread & Wine to be used in the celebration of Holy Mass and the sanctuary candle that burns before our Lord in the tabernacle.
Contact the church office for more information.
The HRSR Middle School Youth Group, God's Squad, thanks all parishioners for their generous donations toward the New Life Transitional Housing Center. We were able to create 15 hefty care packages for the
families, including approximately 4 extra packages containing children's books and toys. The families received these gifts on June 3rd and were genuinely grateful.
