Hirokazu Sugiyama studied chemical engineering at the University of
Tokyo (BEng in 2001, MEng in 2003), and earned PhD from ETH Zurich
(2007). Subsequently he joined F. Hoffmann-La Roche in Switzerland, and
held different positions in a start-up facility of biological drug product
manufacturing with increasing responsibilities. His last position was Head
of Prefilled Syringe Production. In 2013 Dr. Sugiyama was appointed as an
associate professor at the Department of Chemical System Engineering,
Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, and started
research activities on multiobjective design of pharmaceutical
manufacturing processes. He is conduction research on multiobjective
design of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. With tackling the
following themes, he is exploring Pharma PSE as the new horizon of
process systems engineering for realizing more superior processes. Design
methodology for sterile drug product manufacturing processes, Modeling of decontamination
processes using hydrogen peroxide, and application to design, Design methodology of
pharmaceutical manufacturing processes considering single-use technology, Design methodology of
solid drug product manufacturing processes considering continuous manufacturing technology,
Evaluation of environmental, health and safety (EHS) risks in drug substance manufacturing, and
application to process design & Research on various emerging topics related to pharmaceutical
consumption and production

KEYNOTE SPEAKER 1 - DAY 1 HIROKAZU SUGIYAMA, PROF. DR
Raymond R. Tan is a full professor of chemical engineering, University
Fellow and current Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at De La
Salle University, Manila, Philippines. He is also a member of the Philippine
National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). His main areas of
research are process systems engineering and process integration. Prof.
Tan received his BS and MS degrees in chemical engineering and PhD in
mechanical engineering from De La Salle University, and is the author of
more than 230 Scopus-listed publications with an h-index of 34. He is
co-editor-in-chief of Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability
(Springer Nature), subject editor of Sustainable Production and
Consumption (Elsevier/IChemE), and an editorial board member of Clean
Technologies and Environmental Policy (Springer Nature) and Int. J. of
Supply Chain and Operations Resilience (Inderscience). He is also editor of the books Recent
Advances in Sustainable Process Design and Optimization (World Scientific) and Process Design
Strategies for Biomass Conversion Systems (Wiley). For his scientific work, Prof. Tan has received
multiple awards from the NAST, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Philippine American
Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE), and the National Research Council of the Philippines
(NRCP).

Prof. Saito aims to solve environmental problems connected with
conventional energy consumptions and to develop new green energy in
order to construct sustainable society, based on physical processes (in
particular fluid mechanics and multiphase flows) and advanced-laser-
based measurement technology. The research themes which he tackles
are as follows: technologies to mitigate the global warming, technologies
to rapidly improve energy efficiency, technologies to generate hydrogen
gas directly from water through advanced laser beams, technologies to
preserve regional environment. He started a R&D project (three-year pro-
ject) on April 2013 under promotion of Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology. In the new project for the particular
purpose of preserving regional environment, he aims to develop ozone-mist walls for prevention
against viral murrain, and a decontamination technology of radioative substances through milk-fat
ozonide. In addition, he will develop a new optical fiber probe by using femto-second pulse laser,
under promotion and financial support by Category "A" of the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research,
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. The basis of these researches is physics of multi-phase
flow, and laser-based measurement science. He aims to efficiently and sustainably use conventional
energy and to develop new green energy, by combining and harmonizing physical processes and
advanced laser technologies.
