THE HOLY COMMUNION

Offertory The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns

O brighter than that glorious morn shall this fair morning be, When Christ, our King, in beauty comes, and we his face shall see.

The King shall come when morning dawns, and earth’s dark night is past; O haste the rising of that morn, the day that light shall last. And let the endless bliss begin, by wearied saints foretold,

When right shall triumph over wrong, and truth shall be extolled.

He comes the prisoners to release, in Satan’s bondage held; The gates of hell before him burst, the iron fetters felled.

He comes the wounded heart to bind, the broken soul to cure; And with the treasures of his grace enrich the humble poor.

The King shall come when morning dawns, and light and beauty brings: Hail, Christ the Lord! Thy people pray, Come quickly, King of kings.

Presentation Hymn (all stand) Old One Hundredth

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail.

Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion.

Communion Music Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence Words: Liturgy of St. James, 4th Century Music: French carol

Let all mortal flesh keep silence, And with fear and trembling stand;

Ponder nothing earthly minded, For with blessing in his hand,

Christ our God to earth descendeth, Our full homage to demand.

King of kings, yet born of Mary,

As of old on earth he stood, Lord of lords, in human vesture,

In the body and the blood; He will give to all the faithful

His own self for heavenly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven Spreads its vanguard on the way, As the Light of light descendeth From the realms of endless day,

That the powers of hell may vanish As the darkness clears away.

At his feet the six wingèd seraph,

Cherubim with sleepless eye, Veil their faces to the presence, As with ceaseless voice they cry:

Alleluia, Alleluia Alleluia, Lord Most High!

During this time of transition, we ask that you would continue to pray for clarity, wisdom, energy, and grace for our Vestry as they work to figure out what their next steps are. Pray also for Christ Church as a body, that we would grow in unity and love for each other, trusting God's leading for us. Adult Education Please join us in the Parish Hall as we begin an Advent series: Mary and Magnificat. What are Protestant Christians, like Anglicans, supposed to do with Mary? Should we ignore her like some, worship her like others, or take an entirely different view of her altogether? Anyone who has wrestled with these questions is welcome to attend our Advent education series, Mary and Magnificat, held in the Parish Hall and taught by Fr. Matt. Over the four weeks, we will discuss Mary through the lenses of the Old Testament, the Early Church, and Christ Himself. The series will run from December 1 (Advent 1), through December 22 (Advent 4).

Turkey Drive - Thank You! Many thanks to all of you who participated in our Thanksgiving turkey drive last Sunday. Thanks to you, we reached our goal of more than 100 turkeys. These will be delivered to families in Phoenix along with a message of God’s love by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Your help is very much appreciated. Pledge Card - Thank You! Thank you to all who turned in your pledge cards last Sunday! God is good and he has wonderfully blessed our life and ministry at Christ Church Anglican. If you haven't turned in a pledge for 2020, we invite you to do so. Pledges are an essential part of budget planning for next year. Pledge cards are available in the Narthex and Parish Hall. Advent Devotionals Do you want something to help you stay focused on "The Reason for the Season"? Do you want something to enhance your walk with Christ through the busy days of Advent and Christmas? Why not pick up a copy of Water from Rock's 2019 Advent devotional, "True God from True God", by Rev. Dr. Timothy Smith? This year's devotional offers daily reflections on the wondrous Christ Hymn found in Colossians 1:15-20, a wonderfully rich passage that will deepen your Christmas joy! Copies are available in the Narthex and Parish Hall. Town Hall Meeting A Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Monday evening, December 2, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Bishop Trevor Walters, a friend of Christ Church Anglican and internationally-recognized mediation specialist, has been invited to help us address and heal the hurts and brokenness that came to light as a consequence of our Rector search process over the past year. He will help to clarify the events of the last year, address rumors from the past, and begin to articulate a way forward for Christ Church. Please plan to join us, bringing an attentive and open mind and heart to the time. Childcare will be available for toddlers-6th graders. They will be playing on the playground, on the grass and in Room 8. Please let the Church Office (602-955-2040) know if your kids are coming. Advent Taize Services Please join us during Advent for a mid-week service of evening prayer and Taize singing. This service will incorporate the Compline prayers of light, the Advent collects, and the music of Taize. Together, we hope to spend time in the midst of each week in stillness, prayer, and song, centered around the themes of expectancy, longing, darkness, and light during Advent. The services will take place at the Hodge's home on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m., beginning on December 3. All are welcome to join, please email Jessica Hodge for details: [email protected]
