Bullock carts were used to transport tea in bulk

1824 Tea was introduced to Sri Lanka by the British.

1867 Commercial cultivation started by James Taylor.

1875 Ceylon began shipping tea to the London Tea Auctions.

1927 Sri Lanka produced more than 100,000 metric tons of tea for export.

Sri Lanka is currently the second largest exporter of tea, producing well in excess of 300,000 metric tons (300m kg) annually.
