NYS Arrests and Prison Sentences by Race/Ethnicity The following tables display population, arrest activity, and prison sentences by race/ethnicity for each of the 62 counties within New York State. All data is sourced from the New York State Computerized Criminal History (CCH) repository1 maintained by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) except for the population data which is sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau2.

CCH data consists of records of adult arrests for finger‐printable offenses as submitted by local and state law enforcement agencies plus corresponding court case dispositions provided by the New York State Office of Court Administration (OCA). The CCH also includes arrest and disposition data for juvenile offenders arrested for certain violent felonies who were prosecuted in the adult court system.

The tables present 2018 data at the state, regional, and county level3 for the following:

Race/ethnicity of an individual is recorded by police at the time of arrest. In the attached statistical tables, race/ethnicity is categorized as White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and Other. Arrestees of Hispanic ethnicity, regardless of race, are included in the Hispanic category. The White, Black, and Other categories include only individuals of non‐Hispanic origin.
