dedicated to helping veterans achieve their educational and career goals.

The New York Film Academy was designed for a new generation of filmmakers, actors, screenwriters, and photographers who want to learn by making their own projects in a hands-on, intensive program. The event is complimentary for any service member, veteran, wounded warrior, and their families. This event will begin with an information session about the New York Film Academy, and participants will then break off into designated workshops, based upon their interest (Filmmaking, Acting, Screenwriting, and Photography).

The New York Film Academy participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program and has many programs approved for the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits.

FILMMAKING WORKSHOPFilmmaking is an art form in which the director paints moving pictures. The filmmaker’s canvas is the cinema and the most basic building block is the shot. • Through discussion, clip analysis, and hands-on camera exercises, this workshop will explore the importance of shot construction, shot composition and size, as well as blocking and staging, and how it plays a crucial role in effective dramatic storytelling.

ACTING WORKSHOACTING WORKSHOPLearn various stages of acting, from booking process to first call and callbacks. The workshop answers questions, like:• What can I expect from the casting process?• Who is in the room while I am auditioning?• How do they determine who books the job?• What are casting directors’ expectations and what do they look for in headshots and resumes?

SCREENWRITING WORKSHOP: OPERSCREENWRITING WORKSHOP: OPERATION: STORY!Do you have a story to tell? Do you dream of writing movies, TV shows, comics, or video games? Are you serious about taking your writing to the next level? • This workshop will provide you with the essential insights on creating compelling characters, story structure, dialogue and more. You’ll receive insider tips on how to pitch your stories to Hollywood. Best of all, you’ll workshop your original story ideas with our expert instructors and learn how to develop them into sellable TV shows and movies. PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPAside from being the most popular hobby on the planet, photography is an art form, a way of seeing the world.• NYFA photography students are taught to produce consistently excellent work on-demand. We give you the tools to achieve your personal vision through photography, and the guidance to turn your passion into a profession.•• This workshop will take a behind-the-scenes look at a commercial portraiture lighting setup. Using professional equipment, we'll show you how to set up a single light then move through to a complex 5 light set up. Our expert instructor will give you hands-on direction for working with your model using creative lighting techniques.
