OverviewThe first Power Architecture R© with a multi-

core NXP T20x-series processor System onModule (SOM) as developed by Scalys is ide-ally suited for use in low power, mixed controland data plane applications. Typical end prod-ucts are fixed routers, switches, internet accessdevices, firewalls and other packet filtering appli-cations, as well as general purpose embeddedcomputing. Its high level of integration offers sig-nificant performance benefits and greatly helpsto simplify board design.

Rich inustrial interfacesThis new SOM provides an excellent base for

quick, reliable, secure and efficient networkingby means of interfaces such as 8x SERDES (up-to 10 GHz), 10Gbit XFI, 1.25 or 3.125Gbps SG-MII, RGMII, Gen 2.0 PCI Express Controllers upto 5Gbps and Gen 3.0 PCI Express Controllersup to 8Gbps. In addition the modules support8Gbit NAND flash memory, 256 Mbit NOR Flashmemory and up 8 GB of DDR3 SDRAM (up to2133 MT/s). Each e6500 core implements theFreescale AltiVec technology-based SIMD en-gine, dramatically boosting the performance ofmedia and networking algorithms, offering nativeinline programming and using less power than aseparate DSP.

Scalable PerformanceThe SiMC-T2081 is the most powerful mem-

ber of a comprehensive range of modules alsosupporting the QorIQTM T2081 processors.They are all based on the same SOM form fac-tor and are pin compatible & exchangeable toprovide maximum flexibility. The SiMC-T2081 ispart of the NXP QorIQTM T2 family of communi-cation processors with up to eight virtual cores

(up to 1.8 GHz).The Scalys Multi Core Power Architecture R© SOMscombine the comfort, quality and design safetyof a standard board solution with the flexibility ofa full custom design, which can be realized byan application specific carrier board.

Long-term availabilityNXP guarantees availability of the QorIQ T

series product family for an impressive period ofat least 10 years. This allows for long-term plan-ning of products with a QorIQ processor inside.The Scalys QorIQTM SOM comes with a BoardSupport Package (BSP) for Linux. Scalys alsooffers a Carrier Board (CB) for evaluation pur-poses. With the SOM, BSP and CB you can im-mediately start developing your own application(IP) without the need for application specific de-veloped hardware. On special request a BSP forother operating systems can be developed.By application of our embedded design ser-vices we can offer custom carrier board devel-opment, custom module development or designa cost effective integrated solution, thereby al-lowing OEMs to fully concentrate on their corecompetencies and enabling them to focus on de-veloping their company specific IP.

System on ModuleApplication of a System on Module (SOM) is an ideal alternative to custom engineering. With a

SOM implementation approach you get the best of two worlds: the advantages of buying an off the shelfSingle Board Computer are combined with the benefits of custom engineering. Standard componentssuch as a generic carrier board and a SOM module allow you to already start development of yoursoftware application (often your specific IP) even before your custom HW is functional, thereby offeringyou a unique competitive advantage by reducing your time to market of your product.
