Thanks! This week we have been celebrating our new Year 8 leaders in Moa Hub, congratulations to all of you, you’re going to be amazing role models and leaders in our school! Next Tuesday the Year 8’s are off on a Caving Trip with Blue Mountain Adventures, it’s going to be an amazing experience, with lots of us getting out of our comfort zone! Just a reminder to get your permission slips and consent forms back to school asap! In class we have begun learning about the story of Tutetawha and Te Kanua - the race to the top of Tuhua. Matua Tipene has told us the story and now it’s the student’s turn to recount it as part of their writing! In our Reading assignment, we’ve been learning about the significance of some of the Street Names in Taumarunui and finding out about the personalities behind them. It’s been very interesting learning about the connections between these names! A reminder that swimming is still happening for Moa Hub students each Wed/Thur/Fri, so please make sure togs & towels are packed! Swimming sports is only next week!! Principal’s Pen Kia Ora, Bula, Aloha, Talofa, Namaste, Hola, Hello Welcome to Week 4 Newsletter! This week we announced our Year 8 leadership roles for 2020. Our Year 8’s are a lovely happy and friendly group and it was definitely a very hard decision. So many wonderful choices! This year we had our Year 6, Year 7 and Year 8 student body also vote for whom they felt would be best suited for each position.They also struggled in voting, with so many amazing choices to choose from. The students were very proud to be able to have a say. The support our children gave at the leadership assembly as we read out each position was noted by all. The children all clapped wildly and cheered as each student came forward to shake hands with Jo our BOT chair as we read out their positions for 2020.These Year 8’s have already set a tone throughout the school of laughter, friendliness, caring for other students and each other, and being great role models. We are in for a wonderful year with them.Congratulations Olivia and Nick our Head Girl and Head Boy, Luka and Ella our deputies, Jordan and Riley our Sports Captains, Emma as their deputy. Our new Koru hub leaders, Jessie and Briar; Our Ngakau Hub leaders, Kiara and Riley S; and to our beautiful House captains, Kaelin and Nila, Shiv and Anahera, Analeyne and Jasper, Ciara and Hunta. Thank you also for our parents and grandparents who came to assembly and morning tea to celebrate with them. It was wonderful to see the support our year 8s had. Next week will see these year 8’s in action with the NVS Annual Swimming Sports. The swimmers who go to the high school will be competing on Thursday 27th February at 9.30am and the Juniors swimming sports will be at 12.30pm on Friday 28th February. We will hold the Swim Champs assembly on Tuesday 3rd March at 1.30pm in the hall. Followed by the house synchronised swimming displays. Everyone is welcomed! The Tui’s are underway with their recount writing about a Taumarunui worker. It’s our last reading assignment before moving on to learn about local attractions. A huge thank you to all those who are completing their homework and bringing it back! Tui Tweets Mataī & Rātā This week the Kiwi Team have been writing recounts about our Teddy Bear’s picnic and the triathlon. We have been creating self portraits with Miss B in the afternoons. We are making great progress with our swimming in the pool and can’t wait to show you what we can do at our junior school swimming sports next Friday 28th February.
