Which foods will help you to have a balanced diet?

With this question in mind, you will explore which foods help your body work best. Your end goal will be to complete a menu of healthy foods for the picnic!

watch videos and read about having a healthy diet. You will find important “power” foods that give you energy and keep you strong.

Choose foods from the

different food groups that help your body. You can use this graphic organizer, a printed organizer, or post-it notes to gather your thoughts. You will use these ideas to create your menu.

Remember to choose a balanced diet that includes each food group!

Food For Thought…(for teachers… )

Classroom Objective: (This lesson should be completed in a one-hour class period)

• Students will classify foods into groups according to My Pyramid in order to create a balanced meal.

Aligned to the Maryland VSC (for Second Grade)• Standard 6: Nutrition and Fitness

• 6.F.1.a.- Classify foods into groups according to My Pyramid. • 6.F.1.c.- Illustrate a serving from each food group.

Differentiation• Allow students to work in partnerships to complete the assignment• Provide extended time (Use 2 one-hour class periods if need be)

No technology? No problem!• If your computer lab isn’t available or you are having technical difficulties, simply click the icon to
