FOODS TO EAT AFTER YOU WORKOUT
BRUCE STREBINGERBRUCE STREBINGER.ORG
A proper workout can really make
you break a sweat. Anyone who
knows this also knows that a hard
workout means a hungry stomach.
Before you pop open your fridge
though, carefully consider what
you’ll be making your post workout
meal.
By eating a proper meal after your
workout, you’ll guarantee to better
optimize your exercise results.
Discipline your mind into making
healthy meal choices after your
workout, and you’ll reap the
benefits with high energy, strength,
and better digestion. Here are a few
meal ideas to consider after your
workout.
FOR DRINK
First things first, you need water
after your workout. If you’ve just
undergone an especially sweaty
workout, say maybe in a hot room,
make sure you hydrate yourself
properly.
Electrolyte filled waters and
coconut water hydrate, while also
replenishing your energy. If no
electrolytefilled or coconut water is
at hand, simply cut a slice of lemon,
lime, or orange and plop it into your
water for additional nutrition.
Have a nutritionfilled smoothie to
substitute for, or complement a
meal. Now, the possibilities you can
create with smoothies are endless,

FOR FOOD
Eating a meal that is high in
nutrition is important after a long
workout. Depending on the time of
day of course, you will have to
change your meal strategy
according to earlier, or later meals.
Have a well balanced meal that
includes (some) fats,
carbohydrates, and proteins.
High protein foods are imperative to
building muscle. Lean foods, such
as meats are good choices. Stick
with chicken breasts, tuna, or
salmon if you go this route.
Otherwise, there are plenty of other
sources of protein you could look
into.
Sunflower seeds and pumpkin
seeds supply awesome amounts of
protein. Almonds, walnuts, peanuts
and yes, even peanut butter can
also supply healthy amounts of
protein.
Try eating a Peanut butter and
banana sandwich with whole grain
bread if you’re pressed for time!
Sheknows.com states that one
boiled egg can supply up to 6
grams of protein! Eat an omelette
with vegetables to add further
nutritional value.
Legumes and vegetables are also
great sources of protein and other
nutrients. Salads with extra beans
and guacamole can provide you
with a healthy amount of calories
needed to carry you throughout
your day.
According to doyouyoga.com,
hummus with grain crackers can be
surprisingly filling, which is excellent
for a post workout snack. Of course,
we can’t forget our veggies!
Enjoy yourself a steamed plate of
veggies and sliced avocado for
dinner. Always try and create a
meal that is heavy in vegetables.
