SMARTFISH NUTRIFRIEND 1100 is a juice based drink providing 200 Kcal per carton of 200 ml. NutriFriend 1100 contains low oxidised EPA & DHA, vitamin D3, fibre from pectin, and protein from whey protein isolate. A juice blend of pome- granate, apple, aronia and pear provides natural antioxidants in a synergistic composition for dietary management. NutriFriend 1100 and Cancer Cachexia Smartfish NutriFriend 1100 is a FSMP (Food for Special Medical Purposes) and is approved for reimbursment for cancer cachexia and Scandi- navia. In cancer treatment, the nutritonal inter- vention plays important roles by providing strength and energy when the body really needs it, reducing weight loss. About 80% of all cancer patients are suffering from cachexia. Patients with cancer cachexia benefits from high dos- ages of omega 3 fatty acids EPA & DHA. The EPA & DHA fatty acids modulate mediators of catabolism in cachexia and induce weight gain. The right nutritional intervention may also have positive effects on fighting cancer itself. The EPA & DHA fatty acids improves the functional- ity, structure and strength of the cells. The EPA & DHA fatty acids have in studies proven to slow cancer cell mistosi, exert anti-profilerative effects on cancer cells and work in synergy with chemotherapeutic drugs. NutriFriend 1100 is suitable for persons with immune system failures, for improving the diets of patients unable to meet their nutritional requirements from foods, or persons experienc- ing unintended weight loss due to surgery.
