ISMM Technical Sessions – 2012 The Technical Sessions was held before the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 31st March 2012 at the OPA Auditorium from 3.00 p.m. to 4.45 p.m.. A lecture on “Future Rail Trans-port for Sri Lanka” was delivered by Dr. T. L. Gunaruwan, Senior Lecturer, University of Colombo, Former Gen-eral Manager, Railways Department & Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport. We are thankful to Metropolitan Office (Pvt) Ltd. who sponsored the event.

The AGM of ISMM was held immediately after the Technical Sessions on Saturday 31st March 2012 at the OPA Auditorium. As per the provisions in the Constitution the President is elected by the Outgoing Council. Accordingly Mr.Danesha Perera, incumbent President was unanimously elected President for a second term at the Council Meeting held on 16th March 2012.

Seminar on “What does Marketing mean to a Purchaser”

ISMM Faculty organized a seminar on “What does Marketing mean to a Purchaser” for the Diploma Students as a part of compulsory program in the syllabi for DPMM students on 22nd January 2012 at the Western Province Aesthetic Resort. Guest Speaker was Mr. Mohan Bibile former Council Member of ISMM and General Manager, Asgiriya Technologies (Pvt) Ltd..

Seminar on “Consumer Perspective in Supply Chain Management” ISMM conducted a seminar under the Continuous Professional Development / Education (CPD/CPE) program on 16th February 2012 at the auditorium of Organisation of Professional Associations for the members and the Guest Speaker was Mr. Prasanna Perera, Marketing & Management Consultant, Chartered Marketer, CIM - UK. He addressed the members on “ Consumer Perspective in Supply Chain Management”.

ISMM conducted a One Day Workshop on “Effective Warehouse Management” on 23rd March 2012 at Hotel Janaki. The Facilitator was Mr. I. G. Perera – Vice President / Chairman PD & TC of ISMM. There were over 90 partici-pants from the public and private sector organisa-tions.

The President ISMM Mr. Danesha Perera and Senior Delegate and Past President Mr. Gerry Hidelaratchi attended the Interna-tional Federation of Purchasing & Supply Management (IFPSM) Asia Pacific Council Meeting in Manila, Philippines on 22nd & 23rd April 2012. The Asia Pacific Council Meeting was organized by the Purchasing Institute Supply Management (PISM) in Philippines under the guidance of the International Federation of Purchasing & Supply Management. The delegates from Asia Pacific Countries attended including India, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sri Lanka to name a few.

Articles for ISMM’s 40th Anniversary Journal 2012

Members capable of submitting articles for publication in Journal No. 23 due for publication in 2012 to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of ISMM in October 2012 are encouraged to submit articles on supply chain related subjects. Articles should be restricted to a maximum of 3 to 4 pages (A 4 size) and should be mailed to anuradhaismm@gmail.com by 30th July 2012 the latest. A passport size colour photo of the author for publication with the article is optional. This may be mailed along with the article if you wish.

40th Anniversary of ISMM The 40th Anniversary of ISMM falls on 24th October 2012. A series of events have been planned to celebrate the event. The main events will be the One Day Seminar fixed for 23rd October at a 5 star hotel where several eminent local professionals as well as foreign invitees will address the members. The main event will be the gala Banquet Dinner on 24th October 2012 at a 5 star hotel. His Excellency the President is expected to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Please keep the date free. Further communications will follow closer to the date. ISMM seeks the co-operation of members to obtain sponsorships, banners and advertisements for the 40th Anniversary issue of ISMM Journal. Inter Diplomates Cricket Tournament organized by ISMM Alumni ISMM Alumni under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Lalith Fernando organized a Cricket Tournament and Traditional Sinhala Avurudu Games between Diplomates and Diploma Students on 29th April at the Wesley College Grounds. President Mr. Danesha Perera was the Chief Guest at the event which commenced at 8.00 a.m. with the lighting of the Traditional Oil Lamp. The ISMM Flag and Alumni Flag was hoisted by Mr. Danesha Perera - President ISMM and Mr. Lalith Fernando - Chairman Alumni respectively.

Diploma Batches 2007/2010, 2008/2011, 2009/2012 “B”, 2010/2013 “A & B”, 2011/2014 “A & B” participated in the six-a-side tournament. The winning team was Batch 2009/2012 “B” captained by Mr. J. M. D. Dammika and the Runner Up Team was Batch 2010/2013 “A” captained by Mr. Dinesh Silva. They were awarded the “ALU CRICK” Challenge Shield presented by Immediate Past President Mr. Chandima Jayatillake and the “ALU CRICK”

Obituary

It is with deep regret that we record the demise of Mr. H. A. S. Perera, former Deputy Director, Government Supplies Department and a long standing member of the Council of ISMM, and a Fellow Member of ISMM. He was a dedicated re-source person and was actively involved in training activities until very recently. We wish to convey our heartfelt sympathies to Mrs. Perera and the children.
