jacquards automatic loom. in 1801, a french weaver found a way to weave good looking

clothes faster. his name was joseph marie jacquard. he invited the first automatic weaving

loom that follows instructions from a punched card. the punched holes worked like a

pattern used for making cross-stitched designs. the instructions were punched on a card

which was fed into the machine. he called it the jacquards automatic loom.

JACQUARDS THE ABACUS. ABOUT 4,000 YEARS AGO, THE CHINESE

INVENTED THE ABACUS. IT IS AN ADDING TOOL THAT CAN HELP YOU

ADD AND SUBTRACT NUMBERS BY MOVING BEADS BACK AND FORTHON RODS. THE ABACUS WAS ONE OF THE EARLIEST COUNTING

DEVICES INVENTED TO HELP MAN SOLVE HIS COUNTING PROBLEMS.

lEIBNITZ cALCULATOR. aROUND 1670, A gERMAN

    MATHEMATICIAN NAMED gOTTFRIED lEIBNITZ

    INVENTED ANOTHER COUNTING MACHINE WHICH

    HE CALLED lEIBNITZ cALCULATOR. tHIS

MACHINE WORKS BETTER THAN THE FIRST TWO

    INVENTIONS (aBACUS AND pASCALINE) BECAUSE

IT COULD ADD, SUBTRACT, MULTIPLY, AND

DIVIDE. iT CAN EVEN FIND THE SQUARE ROOT OF

    NUMBER.

Leibnitz The Pascaline. In 1600s, A man named Blaise Pascal worked

with his father in the court. His task was to count money his

father collected from there. Every time he makes a mistake

in counting the money, he had to start counting all over

again. Because of this, he invented accounting machine. This

machine could count faster than the abacus. It could add and

subtract long numbers without making mistake. He called it

the Pascaline which he named after him.
