THE ISSUE Teacher effectiveness is the single most

important school-based contributor to

student success. Highly proficient

teachers can move their students up at

least one grade level, while ineffective

teachers result in children being left

behind. In other words, below average

teachers widen the achievement gap

while capable teachers shrink it.

The U.S. will need to prepare and retain

two million new teachers over the next

ten years, yet most new teachers receive

limited instructional support. Typically,

the newest teachers are placed in the

most difficult classes in the neediest

schools. Not surprisingly, many of their

educational careers will not survive this

trial by fire.

Nearly 50% of new teachers leave the

profession. In low income communities,

approximately 70% of teachers leave

within five years.

THE MISSION

New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national

nonprofit that improves student learning

by accelerating the effectiveness of new

teachers.

NTC ensures that the nation’s poor,

minority, and English learner students,

those most often taught by inexperienced

teachers, receive the education and

college preparation they need and

deserve. NTC programs transform

schools into vibrant learning

communities.

THE PROJECT

NTC sought Full Circle Fund's expertise

in developing an expansion strategy.

Members helped develop a new

communications and marketing strategy,

which bolstered NTC’s growth as the

premier provider of teacher-induction

programs and school leadership training

throughout the United States.

The project also enhanced NTC’s role as

an important voice on the public

education policy landscape.

“It has truly a

been a phenomenal

opportunity to work

with Full Circle Fund.

The team helped

develop our

expansion strategy,

which led to our

formation as a

national non-profit.”

“As a result, we are

now increasing

the effectiveness of

new teachers in every

state and we

continue to grow.”
