Message from the NSW Defence Advocate
The State of New South Wales (NSW) has a long and proud history of supporting the Australian Defence Forces (ADF). NSW has a strong defence industry and research sector to deliver the capability needed by the ADF, and is home to more than 26,000 ADF personnel. The recently released NSW Defence and Industry Strategy 2017 – ‘Strong, Smart and Connected’ – shows how NSW capabilities and workforce skills align with current and future Defence project needs, as part of a broad national approach.
The largest proportion of Defence personnel of all Australian States and Territories are based in NSW. All three services have significant bases and training units throughout the State, and the Operational Level Headquarters of each are located within NSW.
NSW has excellent capabilities in the development and sustainment of military assets, strong defence industry clusters, a highly skilled, stable and cost effective labour market, and world-class research institutions. Fifty-three per cent of the working-age population has a tertiary qualification and more than 200 languages are spoken in Sydney alone.
All of the major defence contractors operate in NSW, supported by a strong small-to-medium enterprise base with specialist capabilities. This strong supply chain gives NSW the competitive edge to feed into Australia’s major air projects including the Joint Strike Fighter Project, Future Battlespace Management System, Future unmanned systems for Air Force and Navy as well as sustainment of the full range of aerospace capabilities in the Air Force, Navy and Army.
The NSW Government is committed to collaborating closely with industry and its peak organisations including Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN), Ai Group, Sydney Aerospace Defence Interest Group (SADIG), Hunternet, and the Australian Business Defence Unit to deliver NSW’s Strategy to support Defence and NSW defence industry.
The Strategy provides a basis for further industry capability development and investment, helping to further sharpen the focus of the NSW defence industry to better position it to respond to Defence’s priorities now and into the future. Establishing Defence NSW as a coordinating body for all Defence-related activities in NSW is a key demonstration of positioning NSW as a leading centre for defence industry projects.
The NSW Air Capability Directory presents the capabilities of NSW prime contractors and specialist small-to-medium enterprises in contributing to and supporting the ADF in current and future projects.

Hardware Design and Manufacture: Our engineers use Altium Designer for Schematic Capture, Simulation and PCB Design. We perform design control throughout the development process and provide visibility on issues and the development to our customers. We manufacture prototypes and small production runs in our own facility.
