Background Concept Competition Brief Deliverables The ‘National Student Survey’ and the ‘Your Student Survey’ is an organisation that allows students to reflect and give feedback during their time at university. This survery is aimed to improve the standards of universities and colleges to appeal to students requirments and maintain a good reputation for the educational establishment. Commisioned by Leeds College of Art the aim was to produce a distinctive visual concept for the NSS & the YSS. The design should provide a consistent visual concept or identity that aligns the two surveys under the same promotional material.     The design was influened by an assortment of poster designs that expressed bold colours and experimental layouts. With the audience being students something visually engaging and striking had to be obtained for this brief.

    Typography

    With the main content being written, the design was also influenced by bold and structured typography for impact and visual engagement.

    A series of poster designs experimenting with layout, colour and pattern mainting a bold and colourful aesthetic to attract the target audience.

    A progression of colour and pattern was introduced to create more impact and was influenced by the Leeds College of Art establishments branding, to create synthesis with the establishment.

    Typography

    The type maintains a clean and simple appraoch for readability with the introduction of some experimental type to highlight certain words that connect to the campaign slogan for imapct.

    Apercu Bold has been used for the content of the posters, the simple san serif font is legible and eye catching from a distance and is complemented with the dashed outline for visual variation.

    The typographic style was influenced by the idea that there is something missing, which links to the surveys pending results. This is highlighted through the dashed outlined words and visually commuincates the idea that through student particpation this void can be filled.

    Colour

    The colour palette was influenced by the patriotic British flag, these tones are also used for voting system to link to the format of the student survey. These colours are fresh and vibrant that work with a black background, making it eye catching.

    Pattern

    The branding is also accompanied by bold pattern that is influenced by the Leeds College of Art logo to highlight the institutions involvement and to add visual depth.

  • Posters

    The posters work as a set to highlight the strap line Voice Your Opinion as well as working alone with individual quotes on each poster. The pattern is different on each poster to visually represent movement and progression, which can be obtained by students interacting with the survey.

    Distribution

    The posters will be distributed around the university from the canteen to pop up stands. This will allow all students and visitors to see and engage with the campaign.

  • Handbooks

    A collection of proposed information handbooks where design for the campaign. The hand books are aimed at the students to find out more about the survey and how to interact with it. The booklets are specified to the NSS and YSS surveys and further information on the campaign.

    Aesthetics

    The signature colours run throughout the branding of these manualsand the mosaic pattern, to keep consistency within the campaign. The NSS hand book was specififed in red as a sign of urgency due to it being the final chance of filling out this particular survey.

    The campaign runs through the official Leeds College or Art website, with the posters adapting to the homepage. These posters work interactively with the strap line changing in the form of an animation highlighting the Voice Your Opin-ion message.

    E-Invite

    The E-invite extends this message using the posters in the same format, with the posters also working through an interactive animation to intrigue the target audience to immerse themselves within the campaign.
