The Special N.S.S Camp was organized by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Science

Advocate Gurunath Kulkarni Commerce Mahavidyalaya,Vasai (W) at DIWANMAN

TALAV, Z.P.SCHOOL, Manikpur,Vasai (w) from 18.1.2016 to 24.01.2016. It was

designed by Principal Dr.V.M.Gaikwad to help students to develop their personality through

community service & during this camp many activities were carried on.

Vaity and „Asst. Prof. Aparna Kulkarni‟ as NSS Prgramme Officer present about NSS Unit

brief information different activities undertaken in NSS Camp as follows daywise.

Day 1 – 18.01.2016

The day started at 7.00 am with a „Prabhat Pheri‟ conducted by the NSS volunteers from

the Zilla Parishad (ZP) School to Chulna village. All the NSS volunteers carried the college

NSS banner and spread social message of cleanliness (Swatch Bharat Abhiyan) and unity. All

the volunteers eagerly gave slogans and spread awareness about the importance of cleanliness

and being together and working towards the progress of the country by being society

conscious.

At 10.00 am the founder of our college, Dr. V M Gaikwad sir inaugurated the NSS camp.

He spoke about the importance of being part of NSS and how being a NSS volunteer could

add value to the students‟ life. He welcomed the students into the world of NSS and

explained the purpose of the camp i.e. to interact with the rural population and understand

their socio economic problems and to develop a sense of social consciousness.

In the afternoon from, our volunteers went to the ZP school and conducted a cleanliness

drive and in the evening, made groups and assigned job responsibilities to each group.

Day 2 – 19.01.2016

The day started at 7 am with yoga session conducted by Aparna miss and Bipin sir. At 9

am, our volunteers conducted a „Road Safety Awareness‟ rally from Manickpur to Panchvati

and later from Ambadi road to Vasai police station, shouting slogans like „Use helmets‟

„Maintain speed limits‟. We were guided by traffic police officer Mr. Khan regarding the

same. Traffic police officer, Mr. Gaikwad sir gave in depth information about road safety and

ways of being safe in traffic conditions on road.

Later in the afternoon, NSS volunteers showed an informative film on “Safe drinking

water” to the students of the ZP school. This helped in creating awareness regarding

cleanliness and health and safety hazards.

Day 3 – 20.01.2016

The morning started with the yoga under the instructions of Aparna miss and Bipin sir.

Later, our volunteers went to St. Stanislaus college, Nalasopara and conducted a campaign

„Clean college, clean India‟ by performing a street play and conducting a cleanliness drive.

Later at 2 pm till 5 pm we showed a film on „Fire and Safety drill‟ and showed

demonstrations of the same. After 5 pm, there was a discussion held on „Cleaner energy

options and nuclear safety‟

Day 4 – 21.01.2016

The morning started with the yoga under the instructions of Aparna miss and Bipin sir.

From morning 9am to 12 pm, we had session conducted by BJP president for Vasai, Mr.

Uttam Kumar, on how a social worker should be. Also, PI Mr. Prakash Birajadar sir spoke

about „Police is your friend‟ and provided guidance for the same. Senior counselor for the

police, Dr. Bhambre guided the students on how to face adversities without fear and how to

overcome personal or emotional issues with determination and with the help of elders and

officials.

Later program guidance was given by program officers, Prof. Bipin Vaity and Prof.

Aparna Kulkarni. At 4.30, Prof. Sabrina D‟Souza presented information on „Rights of

women: both constitutional and legal‟ and spoke on women empowerment

Day 5 – 22.01.2016

The morning started with the yoga under the instructions of Aparna miss and Bipin

sir. From 9 am to 12 pm, we conducted informative session and practicals on the basic

computer knowledge and gaming. From 2 pm to 4 pm, students made posters on „World

Health Day‟. In the evening from 4.30 to 6 pm, the students were enlightened on addiction

by conducting a rally on „alcoholism and drugs addiction‟

In the evening at 7.30, Junior college district coordinator Mr. Petakar sir visited our

camp and interacted with our volunteers, enlightened them about NSS and played coin game

with them.

Day 6 – 23.01.2016


sir. From 9am to 12 pm, “Women rights council of Vasai” president, Mr. Shankar Chikane

spoke to our students about basic human rights and rights to education. Later, the Principal of

ZP school, Mrs. Varsha madam interacted with our volunteers and explained the need of

attention towards these neglected part of the society. She also expressed gratitude and gave us

her blessings for the volunteer work done for the betterment of the school and the less

fortunate parts of the society.

Later at 6 pm, a film on „Motivation by handicap people‟ and „consumer awareness‟

was shown.

Day 7 – 24.01.2016


sir. From 9 am to 12 pm, the entire college campus was cleaned and every classroom was

cleaned and provided with a waste paper basket, thereby reinforcing the importance of

cleanliness and practically implementing cleanliness rally.

Later from 2pm to 4 pm a street play was performed at the BJP office, Vasai. In the

evening from 4.30 to 6 pm, group games were held.

From 7pm to 10 pm, a camp fire was held. the conclusion ceremony was done by vice

principal Mr. S M Shaikh sir, by taking feedback of the camp and explaining the importance

of such endeavors.

Information about National Service Scheme

INTRODUCTION

The National Service Scheme was started by Government of India, Ministry of

Education and Culture, Govt. of India, in Collaboration with State Government in the year

1969 in 37 selected Universities. Now the scheme is with Youth Affairs & Sports Ministry,

Govt. of India & Higher & Tech. Education and Govt of Maharashtra. Our University has

been participating in the scheme right from its inception.

At present 184 college of our University are implementing this scheme through 300

units with the 30,000 students strength covering 5 districts.

Aims and Objectives

• Understand the community in which they work.

• Understand themselves in relation to their community.

• Identify the need and problems of community.

• Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.

• Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community

problems,

• Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.

• Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.

• Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.

• Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and

• Practice national integration and social harmony

Motto of NSS

The Motto of NSS „Not Me But You‟. On face it appears to be very simple and short. But

behind it lies a lot of meaning. It is very deep and suggestive and is keeping with the spirit of

service for others

NSS Symbol

The symbol of the National Service Scheme, as appearing on the cover is based on the „Rath‟

wheel of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray

the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time

and space. The design of the symbol, a simplified from the Sun-chariot wheel, primarily

depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life.

NSS Badge

The NSS symbol is embossed on the NSS badge. The NSS volunteers wear it while

undertaking various programmers of community service. The Konark wheel in the symbol

has eight bars i.e. 8 Prayers (period) which represent 24 hours of the day. Hence the badge

reminds the wearer to be in readiness for service of the nation round the clock i.e. 24 hours.

The red color in the badge indicates that the NSS Volunteers are full of blood. i.e. lively,

active and spirited the navy blue color indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part

ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

National Integration Pledge

INTRODUCTION: The Tree plantation event was celebrated on 18th

CLEANING OF HISTORICAL PLACE

INTRODUCTION: The NSS Unit of Dr. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR College took on

the opportunity of being a part of Swachha Bharat Abhiyan and head to clean

the Vasai Fort near Chimmaji Appa Ground, Vasai Gaon on 8th

of August 2017.

The NSS Unit was divided into 6 subgroups including their respective team

INTRODUCTION: The NSS Unit of Dr. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR College

organized Thalassemia Screening Camp by Parent’s Association Thalassemic

Unit Trust on 11th

August 2017. The founder Dr. V. M. Gaikwad, Vice Principal

S. M. Shaikh and Chief guests Mr. Jamil Mohammad Patel and Mrs. Manisha

enlightened everyone about Thalassemia. The camp took place with the presence

of 5 doctors from Dr. Babasaheb Thackrey Blood Bank of Jogeshwari, Mumbai.

665 students participated in this camp making it a successful one.
