    THE VALUE OF NSP

    2015GRADS

National Scholar and UndergraduateStudent Body President, Shannon Kay.

When I first considered running for

Student Body President, I knew thatI needed to devote significant timeto ascertaining why I wanted to runand to ensure I wanted to run for theright reasons. My most notablemotivating factor existed in thelegitimate albeit somewhat clich ideaof wanting to give back to something

that has given me so much. My experiences atClemson stand unparalleled, and the majority ofthose incredible experiences relate either directlyor indirectly to the National Scholars Program.Without bonding with my cohort at the FreshmenRetreat, traveling to South Africa, Bhutan, and

Ireland with other cohorts, taking classes withwell-regarded professors, and hanging out in theNSP office between class, my Clemson experiencewould have been significantly different, and I wouldnot have had the widespread foundation of supportwhich helped make assuming the role of StudentBody President possible. Many fellow scholars,Jamie, Katie, and others affiliated with NSP helpedmake the capstone to my Clemson experiencepossible, and they still support and advise me tothis day.

The NSP welcomed 11 new Scholars at an August retreat planned by Sarah

Waldvogel, Zach Hawks, Casey Young, and Caroline Hensley. The team leader was

    Katelyn Ragland.
