Hearty WelcomeIt is with my immense pleasure that I in-

vite you all at the 6th NRN Regional Confer-ence, Moscow.

The 6th Regional Conference of the Non Resident Nepali Association, NRNA is scheduled to be held in Moscow from 23rd to 25th July 2011. Five similar conferences were held in the different countries in the past. The First Regional Conference was held in Doha, Qatar in 2005, the Second Confer-ence in Bonn, Germany in 2006, the Third regional NRN Conference was held in Bang-kok, Thailand in 2008, Forth regional Confer-ence in Houston USA in 2010 and the Fifth Regional Conference in January this year in Dubai UAE. In such conferences, the issues faced by NRNs and their possible involve-ment in the welfare of Nepal are discussed.

We are expecting around 500 NRN par-ticipants from around the world dignitar-ies and high level delegates from Nepal to participate at the Conference. It is also expected that Friends of Nepal and repre-sentative from different Nepalese business communities will also attend the Confer-ence. The theme of the conference this time is: Strengthening NRN Network- Promoting Nepal.

This will be a unique occasion to create a common platform for NRNs and encourage them to invest their expertise, knowledge, exposure and resources in Nepal, promote Nepal and Nepalese interests; culture; tradi-tions and value abroad, discuss the issues and problems faced by the NRNs residing around the globe and take necessary meas-

ures to sort out such issues. We may also plan for the upcoming NRNA events.

In addition to the many activities and symposia of the conference, a field trip to Et-nomir has been planned on 24th July 2011 for the official inauguration of Nepal House. Nepal house is a unique joint investment of the Nepali community living in Moscow and a Russian entrepreneur which is built at Kaluga district, 90 km far from Moscow.

The success of our movement depends on the collective effort, dedication and good will from you all. I look forward to meeting all of you in the 6th NRN Regional Conference, Moscow summer his year.

BackgroundThe 24th meeting of the Non-Resident

Nepali Association - International Coordina-tion Council (ICC), held on August 1, 2010 in Paris, decided that the Sixth NRN Regional Con-ference will be held in Russia and to be hosted by the NRNA National Coordination Council (NCC – Russia) in the leadership of NRNA Vice President Mr. Jiba Lamichhane as a Conference Coordinator. Mr. Jiba Lamichhane was given the responsibility of overall organization of the conference including formation of the Confer-ence organizing committee, proposing confer-ence dates and finalizing the venue and coor-dination of overall conference activities.

Although the conference is termed regional as is being held in Moscow, Russia, it will have representation of the NRNs from around the globe. The past five regional conferences were held in Doha (Qatar), Bonn (Germany), Bang-kok (Thailand), Texas (USA) and Dubai (UAE) in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011 respectively. Such Regional NRN Conferences, ranked sec-ond only to the Global NRN Conference in at-tendance and significance, are mandated by the NRNA constitution - which stipulates that a Regional Conference be organized outside of Nepal in between the global conferences. The Global Conferences is held every two years in Nepal.

Conference DateThe Conference will be a three day event to be held from July 23 -25, 2011 (Saturday till Monday).

Conference VenueThe venue of the conference and hotel accom-modation for the participants is confirmed at the Hotel Holiday Inn Moscow, Lesnaya.

City of MoscowMoscow, the capital and the most populous

city of Russia situated on the Moscow River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, is major political, economic, cultural, scientific, reli-gious, financial, educational, and transportation centre of the Russia and the world. It is the sev-enth largest city in the world.

Moscow being one of largest economic centre in Europe has lowest employment rate of all fed-eral subjects of Russia. It is considered as the un-disputed financial centre of Russia and homed to the country’s largest banks and many of its largest companies.

The city is served by an extensive transit net-work, which includes four international airports, nine railroad terminals, and the Moscow Metro, recognized as one of the city’s landmarks due to the rich and varied architecture of its 182 stations.

Popular for architectures, science centers, urban parks, ballets and films, Moscow also pos-sesses a large number of various sports facilities. Some of the well-known site of Moscow is Saint Basil’s Cathedral, with its elegant onion domes, as well as the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Seven Sisters.

It has a humid continental climate with warm, somewhat humid summers and long, cold win-ters. Typical high temperatures in the warm months of June, July and August are around 23 °C (73 °F).

Conference FocusNRNs play vital role in development and trans-

formation of Nepal. Around 3 millions of NRNs with different level of expertise, ideas, knowledge and resources, are dispersed around the globe. It is important to bring all NRNs together, build strong connections among them and marshal their total energy and resources for a common goal of mak-ing Nepal prosperous country.

NRNs are the goodwill ambassadors of Nepal. Wherever they go and reside, they always ex-change and present their culture, value and tradi-tion.

With the vision to build up the strong bond among the NRNs and utilizing the common force to develop and promote Nepal in the world, the conference theme has been set as: “Strengthening NRN Network - Promoting Nepal”.

RegistrationParticipation is based on registration. The

registration fee for all international participants for 3 days is fixed at US$ 100. The electronic reg-istration forms are available at the official web-site of the NRNA – (http://www.nrn.org.np) or can be obtained through the NRNA Secretariat ([email protected]).

Registration will include a conference kit, lunch and dinners. The registration fee will not cover lodging and transportation.

Registration will be open until Friday, July 15, 2011. Intending participants can either send mon-ey to the NRNA account, or pay directly at the ven-ue. (Note: Only cash will be accepted at the venue).

Visa, Accommodation and Transportation

All foreign nationals are required to have en-try visas to travel to the Russian Federation. Rus-sian entry visas can be obtained at local Russian Embassy or Consulate.

The Visa support letter for the conference par-ticipants will be provided by the Conference Ho-tel - The Holiday Inn Lesnaya for free of cost. The Hotel will issue the booking voucher for the par-ticipants once you reserve your hotel. As the ho-tel can issue only tourist visa, all the participants have to indicate at your visa application form as a tourist, not as the conference attendees.

Please note that there is no Visa waiver for foreigners’ in Russia except the citizens of some CIS countries. A penalty of 2500 rubles will be charged by the Hotel in case of reservation can-cellation or no-show.

ProgramThere will be three days program starting from

23 July till 25 July. Various pre and post confer-ence activities including cultural programs will be organized during the conference. The ICC Meet-ing will be conducted after the conclusion of the main conference. The detailed program will be available in the official website of NRNA shortly.
