BY RANI SHARMA The vast diversity of In- dian culture has led to the growth of a fas- cinating variety of craft tech- niques and ideas. For all of us shopping for gifts this Diwali season, there certainly is no dearth of ideas. From in- tricate kutch embroidered cushion cases to ornate kalashes and designer diwali diyas & gift trays, the possibilities are endless. With a little bit of imagination, even old banarasi or bandhni saris can be transformed in to elegant throws, pillow covers or tablecloths, by seaming it with some gold crushed tissue and net embroidery. You can gift that spe- cial person your labor of love! Kalashes are necessary in weddings and pujas. But these days, beautifully crafted kalashes, encrusted with glass, or engraved in metal, can be displayed at home as a decorative piece or gifted to a loved one. Gift packaging is a growing industry in India today. It is all in the presentation. Wrap your festival gifts in crushed tissue, net or organza ma- terial or handmade paper. Put your little party favors or return gifts in little gold tissue bags. Your guests will be delighted with the effort! Diwali gifts are an important part of our tra- dition. Lay out the dry fruits, Indian sweets, chocolate or even gold on elegantly de- signed trays. Exquisite hand painted diyas (earthen lamps) can make for a great gift too. Add the wow factor to your annual gifts. Feng shui items are be- coming very popular as gift items these days. They are not only pleasing to the eye, but are supposed to bring in good luck, happiness and prosperity. A feng shui piece can make for a great gift idea this diwali. There are plenty of tasty North Indian, South Indian and Indo- Chinese items on the menu to choose from. Whether it is their paneer 65, mango chicken, chicken tikka dosa or their lamb rogan josh- there’s something unique in every section of the menu. Their mixed grill platter, chicken 65 and goat curry are, as with most restaurants in Atlanta, very popular amongst patrons. Their lunch buffet is priced at $8.99 weekdays and $11.99 weekends. The weekend buffet is BY VEENA RAO elaborate, with over 24 items to choose from. There are appetizers, vegetarian items, non- vegetarian items, plus dosas and naan and two desserts. The food is tasty and healthy. Housed in a ritzy strip- The Plaza at Suwanee Station- the restaurant has an elegant décor with three glass sides. Customers come to eat good food in a quiet environment, with a great view of the woods. The restaurant also has a large patio, for people who choose to have a quiet, outdoor eating experience. With good food, friendly service and a great ambiance, it is little wonder that Cloves has been garnering the attention of food lovers in the Suwanee, Duluth, John’s Creek and Alpharetta areas. Ample parking space is another plus. Cloves is run by three IT professionals, Santosh Narayan, Raj Srinivasan and Uday Gupte, for whom the idea of a restaurant evolved out of a common love for food. Suwanee was their natural choice for location because there are no other Indian restaurants in that area. The two chefs are from Hyderabad and Chennai, and have over 40 years of culinary experience between them. The south Indian food is traditional, but the chefs and the owners experiment with the North Indian food all the time. Come Saturday, the restaurant morphs from quiet restaurant to a trendy hang out place for youngsters. Cloves is perhaps the only Indian restaurant in Atlanta to offer free poker games (hosted by the Atlanta Poker Club) at its premises every Saturday. The owners will soon introduce weekend carom and chess for patrons. The restaurant also offers catering and banquet facilities. Don’t miss their special Diwali lunch buffet!
