Please forward NPAG News to all of your colleagues who may have an interest in any of activity. This Edition of NPAG News focuses on our partnerships, without which we would not be able to bring you the range of services we do today. One of the highlights of the NPAG year is taking place this month the Clinical Engineering Conference. Partnership is at the heart of this event with our two national groups working together to produce the innovative programme and our valued sponsors providing financial support (see page 3). NPAG have entered into two new partnerships in the last month. One is with the international software company Greenstone, with whom we will be developing some new ideas with the Sustainable Development Unit. The other is a partnership with AVM Services, a key player in the decontamination field and a part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS FT. Our popular Bariatric Awareness events are also a product of working in partnership with Impact Training, Tracey Carr of „A Fat Lot She Knows‟, the National Back Exchange and others. Our next event in this series is featured on page 5. I should also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all of our best value group facilitators, all of whom are very valued associates of NPAG bringing a wealth of knowledge and innovation to our national groups. This puts us in a great place as we step into our autumn programme.

OPERATING THEATRES BENCHMARKING GROUP

On September 9 in Euston, London, the Operating Theatres Benchmarking Group will be kicking off with a new round of four meetings. A dynamic, national group of Clinical Leads and Theatre Managers, supporting each other through the current challenges facing NHS theaters today. Come along and experience how membership can benefit you. Guest places still available! Contact Marie Cherry for details: [email protected],uk.

HEALTH VISTING AND SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES DEVELOPMENT NETWORK

A Message from Shirley Raven, Joint Chair

The first meeting of the next round commences on the 30th November in Euston, London. National 0-19

Lead Wendy Nicholson will be in attendance, outlining the vision for the service and looking to take your questions. Please contact Marie Cherry for details: [email protected].

“I find the service invaluable, excellent for networking and a valued chance to match our Trust to others of a

comparable size. When changing Trusts one of the first things I did was re-apply!”

Operating Theatres BM Group Member 2014-15, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

“We meet four times a year and this gives rare opportunity for thinking space, lively discussion and debate

around issues concerning school nursing and health visiting. We value openness and honesty so those attending

can get valued support and be able to exchange ideas and most crucially learn from one another.

We have had speakers from the Department of Health who are very supportive of our group. We have research

and academia. For example a paper was brought with regard to “What constitutes a new birth visit”, we have

heard from health visiting visits to Bulgaria and Denmark, the e red book, the MASH, new ways of working and

innovative practice down to the practicalities of the tendering process. The different approaches to management

of the significant changes most staff are involved with have also been useful. There are many more items of

interest but you would also be able to share what speaker topics you would like bringing to the group. We have a

firm belief in not reinventing the wheel so policies and processes are shared.

There is always time for members exchange on the agenda so anything can be brought to the table for

discussion. I am writing this thinking why you wouldn’t want to join us! The value for money by having this

opportunity to be both strategic and having practical thinking space should be protected for.”

Many thanks, Shirley Raven

Hilditch support the Amalthea Trust

In the developing world there is a significant problem of medical equipment failure in hospitals as the simplest fault can render an instrument useless until it is fixed. Due to a significant lack of hospital engineers, many medical practitioners in the third world see these faults as unsolvable, disregarding or disposing of the equipment as soon as it ceases to function correctly, resulting in a delayed or incomplete diagnosis. It is from these considerations that the Amalthea Trust was born, supported by Hilditch Group Ltd. The Amalthea Trust main aim is ‘to help provide the sustainable maintenance of medical equipment through the provision of training programmes for the recipients’ in developing countries and in this short time, it has produced over 30 graduates, achieving excellent and potentially life-saving results. Each year the Trust invites volunteers from the UK to teach modules relating to their specialism at Kyambogo University in Uganda, as part of a two year diploma course, which is the first of its kind in the country. The result of the course is that more qualified medical engineers are being employed by hospitals, thereby saving the employer money, time and lives.’
