  • NOTES:

    1. The attached sheets present nozzle loads, moments and sign convention. Note that shear and

    torsion effects are omitted as they have negligible effect on final stress resultants.

    2. Each nozzle, including those designated spare but with the exception of manways and instrument nozzles shall be designed to withstand the forces and moments specified herein. The indicated loads are to be considered to act at the shell/head to nozzle intersection and to be true normal and tangential to the shell at that point.

    3. With regard to the radial load(FA), calculations shall be made firstly with the force acting radially

    outwards in conjunction with the internal pressure and then with the force acting inwards. In the second instance, the internal pressure shall not be used to oppose the compressive stresses due to the force acting radially inwards; for this load condition a null pressure condition is to be considered to exist.

    4. Nozzles in excess of 38NPS are to be designed to withstand the forces and moments as

    computed from the formulae below, where D is the nominal nozzle diameter in inches and is the value listed against the nozzle flange rating in the table given below:-
