Mindfulness is the intentional, accepting and non-judgemental focus of one’s attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations in the present moment. An essential element of Buddhist, it can be trained by meditational practices derived from Buddhism. Practicing mindfulness has been proven to improve both mental and physical health.

The project envisions a retreat that brings
about spiritual transformation to professional adults by cultivating the mind-
body relationship through learning, practicing and experiencing mindfulness.
In this high-end, solitude, transformative environment that is free of religion stigma, people from all paths of life come together
to relocate happiness and purpose in themselves.

"THE DESIGN IS ORGANIZED NOT BY SPACES AND CIRCULATION, BUT BY EMOTIONS AND DREAMS."
To create a new public space and a new experience of the historic city
Qianmen is associated with commerce and foreign influence prior to the fall of the Qing dynasty.
Natural colors and textures: wood, rock, water, liquid-like strings
Water is a conduit of peace, tranquillity and balance; it slows down time and brings frazzled minds and bodies back into natural harmony.
Contemporary, Conceptual
Water is infused throughout the design; from the pool cantilevered above the rooftop, it flows out in a 15m interior rainfall and an underground waterfall in the heart of a hidden spa.

THE FIVE MINDFULNESS TRAININGS
REVERENCE FOR LIFE
Aware of the suffering caused
by the destruction of life, I
am committed to cultivating
the insight of interbeing and
compassion by protecting the
lives of people, animals and
plants.
I will cultivate openness,
non-discrimination, and
non-attachment in order to
transform violence, fanaticism,
and dogmatism in myself and
in the world.
TRUE HAPPINESS
Aware of the suffering
caused by exploitation,
social injustice, stealing, and
oppression, I am committed
to practicing generosity in
my thinking, speaking, and
acting.
I am aware that happiness
depends on my mental
attitude and not on external
conditions, simply by
remembering I have more
than enough conditions to be
happy.
TRUE LOVE
Knowing that sexual activity
caused by craving and desire
always harms myself and
others, I am determined not
to engage in sexual relations
without true love and a deep,
long-term commitment.
Seeing that body and mind
are one, I am committed to

CHANGING SEASONSThe vast landscape of Blue Ridge Mountains is dramatically transformed by the touch of seasons. As the flora is awakened to the subtle changes in weather, it quietly changes internally to harmonize itself with the circumstances. Hence it becomes the manifestation of seasons. This resonates with the idea that the mindfulness followers learn to be aware of the moment and shift their state of mind to peace.

PRACTICEsummernoun
Summer is the warmest of the four temperate seasons, falling between spring and autumn. At the summer solstice, the days are longest and the nights are shortest. Summer is generous and abundant. Practicing of mindfulness is not only about meditating in silence, but also loving others genuinly and speaking caring words. Vibrant green and blue color scheme will bring about the lively energy of summertime.

fallnoun
Fall is the transition from warm to cold weather, and its related status as the season of the primary harvest, has dominated its themes.
In fall, the flora sheds leaves as a strategy to survive harsh weather conditions. Shedding leaves helps trees to conserve water and energy. The guest rooms are areas of resting, withdrawal and intimacy. The warm and earthy color scheme will breath in a calming atmosphere for this area.

MEDITATE
To survive the harshness of winter, many animals have developed different behavioral and morphological adaptations for wintering, like hibernation. The state of meditating is also about gathering energy internally and remaining still externally.
Achromatic blue scheme in combination with warm tones of beiges will create a misty feel yet lifted up by contrast.

OVERJOY
Springtime refers to ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal and regrowth. After the long winter, flora wakens up and manifest its beauty by blossoming to receive the sun warmth. The mindfulness followers come to rejoice in public areas such as the gathering space and the dining hall. Vibrant colors of yellow and orange create accents on a neutral background.
