Both Virgo andLeo like cats; Libra prefers dogs as beingmore responsive, and it is probable that thissign especially likes singing birds. There isroom for a good deal of investigation as tothese affinities . . .

THE desire to dispute all and sundrystatements (as apart from ability in de-

bate) is usually consequent upon Mars orUranus being in Gemini, or in the 3rd house,or strongly aspecting Mercury or Jupiter. Allthese tend to mental aggressiveness. Ura-nus, Saturn, and Aquarius are also fond ofinsisting upon actual proof. A Canceriantrait makes for tenacity, and an adverseMoon-Saturn influence often gives a certainobstinacy . . .

SUN and Saturn arearistocratic planets,

and give a desire for power and a love ofaristocracy as a social principle. The sameis true to some extent of all the fixed signs,except Aquarius. Venus gives a desire forrefinement and an aversion to all that is meanand sordid. Mars is usually an upholder ofwhatever class it happens to be born into;Mercury is intellectualistic and neutral;Moon and Neptune are democratic; Uranusgoes to extremes, being rebellious as a sub-ject and autocratic as a ruler . . . .

A good example is that of Philip II ofSpain, described as one of the most un-

lovable characters in history, a sullen & soli-tary bigot. The nativity is of considerableastrological interest, for it shows numerousgood features. Libra rises; Venus, Jupiter,and Mercury are in conjunction, and theMoon trines them all, while Saturn is in sex-tile with all four. But Saturn is opposite theasc. and the Sun and three planets in Geminimake for egoism and hardness; the Moon issquare Mars, giving cruelty and vindictive-ness (of which he was a painful example),and the Sun square Neptune in Pisces gave

him vanity . . .

THE Moon signifies the People as con-trasted with the Monarch, the Democ-racy as contrasted with the Aristoc-

racy, the general public. It has also some sig-nificance in connection with the sea and wa-ter generally, occupations connected with wa-ter, travelling, the crops, land, women andchildren.

The influence of the Moon in the Housesvaries considerably, depending upon whetherit is well or ill placed by sign, and whether ithas good or evil aspects. It passes on theaspects it receives to the affairs of the housein which it is placed. If its aspects are mixed,the house will benefit through the planetthrowing the good ray, and suffer throughthings signified by the planet casting the evilray.

The Moon in the First House.—Affairsconcerning the people will be to the frontduring the rule of the map and questions re-lating to things signified by the Moon. If wellaspected, the people prosper and the nationin general; trade will be good, the workerscontented, and the influence is favourable forthe crops and the health of the country. Ifafflicted, troubles of the nature of the afflict-ing planet will arise.

The Moon in the Second House.—Itsnatural influence here is to benefit business,trade, the money market, and financial affairsgenerally; to give increase and prosperity;new sources of wealth may be discovered. Ifwell aspected, there may be a surplus at theExchequer and relief of taxation; the crops,land and the people benefit. If much afflicted,there will be some trouble or loss throughmatters signified by the afflicting planet.

The Moon in the Third House.—In-crease of travelling; railways and other meansof transit benefit and the workers employedupon them. Important questions bearing uponeducation, the post-office, and other mattersruled by this house come to the front. AS The Cupbearer to the Gods (beforeGanymede replaced her,) Hebe rulesoccupations where “waiting on” oth-

ers is the job: waitresses, bartenders, salesgirls, and domestic workers. It comes into playin situations where service attitudes are re-quired. Hebe is “The Handmaid,” the personwho serves others. Aspects can describe ser-vice personnel, but Hebe also carries someother implications. In “serving others,” Hebecan, as Cupbearer to the Gods–to the “littlegod” of egocentricity–cater to the self-cen-tered or immature demands of others–and shebecomes an Enabler or co-dependent. Thispart of her nature is reflected in the glyph–thewine glass of Bacchus becomes a triangle;Hebe is the missing link that supports the be-haviors of the dependent (sometimes addicted)personality. In aspect to Bacchus, one findsthe classic co-dependency triangle (the addic-tion, the addicted person and the enabler) buteven in the absence of substance abuse, thereis support for helping to maintain addictivesyndrome behavior patterns.

Under stress of aspects, Hebe may be un-willing to serve–and create conflict or con-frontation (through or regarding the aspect-ing points). At Hebe, one’s behavior (viaHouse and Aspects) can be incorporated intoanother’s dysfunction. One “serves”–whetherthey want to or not!

ON setting out to visit a person let thelord of the seventh be in the ascen-dant, and let the Moon be in aspect

and reception with any retrograde planet, forthis ensures that the person shall be met.

Joining Clubsor AssociationsFortify the lord of the ascendant and let

him apply to a good aspect of the lord ofthe eleventh, or vice-versa. If possible letthe lords of the ascendant and eleventh be inreception or let the Moon translate light fromthe lord of the ascendant to the lord of theeleventh. If the club or association is con-nected with any special purpose fortify theplanet and house ruling that purpose, and letthe former be in favourable aspect with thesignificators. Take the twelfth house and its lord insteadof the eleventh, and fortify Jupiter. [The
