The salon, which has been beautifully outfitted in relaxing tones, offers a new and exciting range of beauty treatments, us- ing only organic skin products. Victoria Carkeet has estab- lished the new business. Pro- prietor of nearby Island Hair for the last five years, Victoria is a hair dresser of long standing. She also has a strong interest in organic products, and with Organics Body Treatments, has created for Cowes a place of relaxation and pampering for women, which leaves them feel- ing and looking their best after treatment. She is excited about a rela- tively new anti-ageing product on the market, and delighted to announce that the new salon is stocking the Jeunesse range. “The results from this prod- uct are truly outstanding,” says Victoria. “Jeunesse are world leaders in anti-aging skin care and nu- tritional supplements, and are designed to work in synergy with your body. “Anti-ageing products have been developed by stem cell ex- pert Dr Nathan Newman, and contain an exclusive growth complex derived from adult stem cells. “The results are a revolution- ary product, able to remove the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and skin imperfections.” The active ingredient is Ar- gireline, a peptide that mimics the effects of Botox, but without the need to undergo any inva- sive surgery or injections. “The results will astound you,” she comments. Four fully qualified beauti- cians are employed at Organics Body Treatments. The therapists each have their own specialties and be- tween provide a wide range of treatments, including facials, remedial and relaxation mas- sage, body waxing, spray tan- ning, makeups, lash and brow tinting, lash lifting, reiki, ear candling and reflexology. The Jeunesse products can also be purchased and applied at home. The range includes a skin cleanser, freshener, daily mois- turiser and a night cream. There is also a mask treatment and an airbrush foundation. Fully qualified beauticians are able to advise clients on treatments on offer, at Organ- ics Body treatments, and on the suitability of applications for in- dividual needs. The beauty salon opened last week, and is already proving to be very popular. Appointments for treatment is preferred, and necessary in the case of ear candling, reflex- ology and reiki, but call in if you are going past to see what is on offer, and discuss your needs with a qualified staff member. Pick up a brochure as well for information on the Jeunesse range. The salon is located at Shop 2, 34-38 Thompson Avenue in Cowes. It is open six days a week, from 9am-5pm week- days and 9am-4pm on Satur- days. Contact number is 5952 2297. A REQUEST to the State Minister for Health, Jill Hen- nessey, for Phillip Island to be considered for a Super- care Pharmacy (24 hour seven days a week) pilot program the government is undertaking for Victoria has fallen on deaf ears. Supercare Pharmacies are open 24/7 and provide round the clock access to pharma- cists, and supply of medicine and dispensing prescriptions. A free on site nurse service operates daily from 6pm to 10pm and provides face to face health advice and treat- ment for minor injuries and illness, wound management, flu and whooping cough im- munisations, health screening, sexual advice and referrals to other services. PIMHAG wrote the following letter to Ms Hennessey in Sep- tember requesting consider- ation be given to its inclusion in the pilot program. “As you know the people of Phillip Island have no access to bulk-billed After Hours (AH) care, except via Ambulance Victoria and the Bass Coast Health (BCH) Wonthaggi Hos- pital Emergency Department (ED). Whilst the local GPs pro- vide coverage until l0pm they charge a significant AH fee, which many find prohibitively expensive and they therefore access bulk-billed care at the Wonthaggi ED. This results in approximate- ly half of all presentations at the ED being classed as Tri- age Category 4s and 5s i.e. patients who could be ser- viced by a SuperCare Phar- macy or GP. Phillip Island and San Remo also lack access to a 24 hour pharmacy on the island, meaning that people have to travel to the Wonthaggi ED or to the Casey SuperClinic in Berwick (45 minutes and one hour l5 minutes travel time respectively), to access basic pharmaceuticals after hours. The need for improved 24/7 medical coverage was clearly identified in the Gippsland South Coast Service Plan July 2010 and has not diminished since then. Phillip Island would be an ideal place for a SuperCare Pharmacy trial, where it could serve our growing pop- ulation (Bass Coast growth 2.2% ABS Census 2015), ad- dress a significant level of socio-economic disadvantage (SEIFA score 977.5 and ser- vice the growing numbers of tourists visiting Victoria’s number one tourist attraction each year. By improving access to medical services on Phillip Island, a SuperCare Phar- macy would also reduce the numbers of Category 4 and 5 patients presenting to the Wonthaggi Emergency De- partment, ensuring that these specialised resources can be used optimally. Discussions with the CEO of Bass Coast Health, suggest that it would be possible to provide a telemedicine link between a SuperCare Phar- macy and the Wonthaggi ED to provide After Hours medi- cal treatment and support, and enable medication to be prescribed. Bass Coast Health has fur- ther indicated that it might be able to supplement the nursing hours not included in the pilot, to facilitate 24-hour coverage at a level that would meet our needs. A SuperCare pharmacy would be an ideal and cost- effective vehicle to provide the people of Phillip Island and San Remo with bulk- billed 24/7 medical care and 24-hour pharmacy and we therefore ask that you con- sider Phillip Island for a trial of the SuperCare pharmacy program. Speaking on Monday, PIM- HAG secretary Linda Marston and committee member Gill Scrase have expressed their extreme disappointment with the Minister’s response. Ms Hennessey said that ten- ders had closed in March this year; that twelve super-phar- macies are now open in the state, and eight more are due to open in June 2018, five of which will be in regional areas. “We hoped we would have received a much more positive response than we have,” both women said this week. “Admission into the pilot program would help ease com- munity concern over the lack of 24 hour medical services on the island. “There are such obvious benefits for both our commu- nity and for Bass Coast Health, in reducing demand on their emergency department. “As well as the obvious com- munity need here, this would provide a service for the many thousands of tourists who are on the island annually.” Linda commented that the state government is keen to es- tablish a car ferry to support the state’s visitor economy. “Surely infrastructure such as a super-pharmacy to sup- port the growth they are en- couraging should be a state government priority as well.” No 24/7 super pharmacy for island The PIMHAG table set up in Thompson Avenue Cowes over the school tables saw about 40 new members a day sign up in support of this local action group. PIMHAG members Gill Scas and Barbara Burns (on the left) sign up new member Jenny Maroney on Friday.
