STAR ROLLING at our May Meeting. A big Thank You to the instructors and those that brought their Star Rollers. NOW, Let's Finish up !!! by Jim Biersach Well the stars are in my magazine drying as you read. I think that everyone, including me, learned about rolling stars. So now we have a bunch of stars, and four comets. What will we do next? You are right!!! Let's make some ball shells. I received the nesting hemi's last week. I need to get some burst, lift, leaders, and some experienced shell builders to teach us how to do that. Wait! Rich & Claudia Wolter are members of our club, and they are ball shell geniuses. Yes, they will work just fine. We will have some of the best and knowledgeable ball shell builders available as instructors. Nothing but the best for WPAG members. So, send an e-mail to [email protected] or give me a call at 608-837-9118. We again have a limit of 24 participants, so sign up early. We will also want to lift those four comets, and we will be making mines with the left over stars. There will be no carry over. We are shootin' em all! Show up at noon on June 7th, and let's get started. Shooting at dusk. Issue Number 2 Volume 12 June 2008 website: www.wpag.us OFFICERS ~ President ~ Larry Huber P.O. From the Prez - Larry Huber As your new president, I would like to thank all of those who have worked so hard to bring this guild to the level of achievement that we enjoy today. Many hours of hard work and devotion, by the founders and those who have willingly given of themselves in service as officers and directors, have made the WPAG the club that it is today. I would like to also like to thank the many shell builders, rocket makers, and other assorted fireworks enthusiasts who bring their creations to our meetings for everyone to enjoy. I personally look forward to our summer meetings to see what wonders all of you have created. I am inspired by the magnificent shells of all types from the incredible multi-break salami’s and assorted Italian shells, with bottom shots, to those spectacular ball shells and Lamperes. Of course an evening without the antics on the rocket line, which has included some pretty spectacular girandolas sprinkled in now and then, and various ghost mines make for a wonderful time where everyone can enjoy seeing the sky painted all evening long. For those of you with more money to spend and not as much time available, consumer fireworks have their own special display area. By carefully selecting your parking spot, you can enjoy the full range of evening activities from the comfort of your own lawn chair or camper. Then, there are the regular seminars and presentations provided that reveal and explore various aspect of this great hobby. Individuals give of themselves for the betterment of our community and enjoyment of all. As I look to all of the regular activity, I notice that it is often a small group of individuals who are getting things done. I would like to encourage everyone in the club to share your talents and abilities to help our community be fun for all. Consider volunteering to help with some of the routine tasks needed each month. If you came an hour earlier, you could help get the tent and safety lines setup. Or maybe you could help take down the tent and help move some of the tables and chairs back to the container. We always could use a few more helpers on the safety crew to serve as spotters, or maybe even work with a water bottle as we try to burn out some left over debris. If you are a camper, you already know that Sunday morning is a time to help clean up the fireworks debris and help the campground to look presentable for other guests. With a few more helpers, the cleanup chore will take less time. Speaking of camping; WPAG members we will continue to enjoy a reduced rate of $12 a night which includes water and electric. To help keep costs down, we will continue to collect camping fees for the campground as well. There has been a desire to host a 2 day fireworks event at the Road America grounds in September. This will be a major undertaking for the club and will require a lot of help from all club members. Jim Biersach is the event coordinator and has asked for volunteers to assist in bringing his vision to life. Your Board of Directors has been asking for detailed plans and now Jim has a planning guide to help everyone understand how much work is involved. If you would like to help coordinate any of the specific areas, come to the June meeting and ask for a copy of the Planning Guide. If you can’t wait, contact me via phone or email and I’ll send you a copy. If the WPAG wants to host a 2 day event, the present Board of Directors must have active participation from many guild members before such an event can be approved. I think that we, as a club, learned many valuable lessons when we presented the “Welcome to Wisconsin” show at the 2006 PGI convention in Appleton. Months of planning and separation of duties were keys to the success we enjoyed. Personally I am a believer in the 6 P's principle - Proper Planning Prevents Pitiful Poor Performance. Therefore if you want to be part of a successful 2 day event, this is your chance to help make it happen. Remember, PGI will be returning to the land of the “Cheese Heads” again in 2010. Are you ready for some fireworks?
