Gallery News October 2014 NEW “Summer Breeze” Exhibition. A big thank you to our dedicated team who worked tirelessly for the successful hanging of our new “Summer Breeze” Exhibition (we’re getting good at it now). Thanks to Rita, Barbara, Brian, Elsa, Karen, Jan W, Bonnie, Robin, Graeme, Janet, Debbie, Jill H, Trisha, Barry and Dave L. Forgive me if I’ve left you out. It’s a beautiful, eclectic mix of paintings which always attract positive feedback from visitors We have our new gallery sign up which looks great and a new kitchen cabinet making the kitchen more user-‐friendly. Our new mounts from Masterpiece Framing have been very profitable, selling out within the week. We have a new batch for sale as well as cellophane sheeting available for 50c or $1 per painting (depending on size). Our raffle painting by Brian Barker was drawn on the 31/10/14 and won by Terry Bately of Ettalong Beach. Our new raffle has been generously donated to us by Penelope Gilbert Ng who painted it en plein air during our recent tutorial. Tickets available at the gallery. Raffle will be drawn 22nd January 2015. GAGs is being well patronized with its easy friendly atmosphere. Quite a few visitors have shown interest in seeing us at work (or play). This week two paintings sold, as a bonus of the gallery being open on this extra day. The “towards abstraction” workshop with Jill Cairns took the place of GAGS on the 12th but the 19th will be held as usual, with a welcome addition of members of the Wednesday Laurieton Group and will include portrait drawing for those interested. Life Drawing. Another beautiful model, Krissy, challenged us this time wearing a long, satin gown. Great atmosphere, music and always fun. 6 Paintings sold in October. Roger Speaight and Brian Barker sold two each. Ruth Bergin and Rita Carosi sold one each. Well done everyone! Jan Farrell, Gallery Co-‐ordinator

President’s speech for November Hello Members we are coming to that time of the year again where you by rights are madly painting getting ready for our 9th Summer Showcase we have had strong support from the L U S Club and The Camden Chamber of Commerce and other sponsors, we expect to have a good representation for our open section and the members sections so good luck. We had our first workshop at our gallery this week thanks to Jill Cairns called Towards Abstraction. There were twenty five members in attendance and we all walked away with a better understanding of abstract, I know I did as a non-‐abstract practising artist (although I did win first prize last year in that section that will be never to be repeated). Congratulations and thanks to Jill for the effort she put into her workshop-‐ it’s not easy helping a group of amateurs let alone twenty five of them. It was a good exercise to see how the Gallery coped and by any standard it came through with flying colours, must also thank Jan Wilson for all the hard work she does organizing workshops including this one. The November Meeting will be our last one till February and this is our last Fine Print till January. We will be having a Christmas party at McInherney park on Monday the 1st December at twelve P.M. same place as last year. The association will put on the barbeque and members are asked to bring either salad or dessert to share, and yourselves, you need to ring Fran Daly to let us know numbers for catering purposes. It’s been a great year so far: good workshops, members achieved various recognitions at different exhibitions and sales and we have ended up with our own home and gallery which is great by any standards and you all should feel proud of your selves, so let me use this opportunity to thank you for your support of the H.V.FA.A. and wish you a great festive season with your families and I will see you at the picnic and the Showcase. Brian Barker
