Trinity Lutheran School ... YOUR SchoolThe students of TLS are very involved with service for the greater community. They touch the lives of many who have unique needs. Since the beginning of this school year, they have already assisted the families of three local children who are battling cancer: Isabelle Meade, Grant Wahle and Gordon Tayloe. Funds were also raised for the family of Deputy Goforth. Our students continue to touch others through Peach’s Neet Feet and The Gladiators. It is always a great day when we can bring some sunshine to those who have the darkness of disease in their lives.

Please feel free to join us for our annual Fall Festival. This year it will be held on Sunday, Nov. 8, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Walk over to the playground/pavilion area after church and join us for some food and fun!

Basketball season is upon us, and there will be many opportunities to cheer the Eagles on to victory. Please check the online calendar to see if there is a game or tournament you would like to attend.

We still have a few openings in most grades. If you would like to schedule a tour or simply get more information about TLS, please feel free to call or send an email.

TLS students brought much-needed canned goods to restock the pantry operated by the church. This pantry supplies food for many families in the community.

There will be a very special school chapel service held Nov. 11 at

8:15 a.m. This service will include our annual tribute to veterans and first responders. If you are one of these very special people or just want to join us for this special

service, please mark your calendar and plan to attend. If you have any

questions, please contact Cyndie Green.

MEET GOD Worship@ by Pastor Chris Singer Gratitude and Deep Breathing

I awoke in the morning to crisp air with no humidity, a rarity for Houston living. Grabbing my coffee I chose to do something that is even more rare for me. I decided to try and sit still and take in the beauty of the morning alone in my backyard. It was really a lot harder than it sounds. The first few moments had my mind racing with so many of the “next things” that I needed to do. I could feel my heart starting to race a bit faster as I began to take bigger gulps of coffee making mental lists of details to be accomplished. I started panicking a bit as I felt the “to do” list pile up on me. And that’s when it happened; I took a deep breath. I am not sure why I did it. I do remember as kid my mom always telling me to “take a deep breath.” She would usually say this when I was either throwing a fit or fixin’ to say something that I would regret. Maybe through all her hard work and challenges with me I found something that stuck!?! I started wishing I could call her and tell her. But I can’t. She died a year ago this month. Some deep pain is buried there for me and now my heart pounds hard as the tears well up in my eyes. So I take another deep breath. Then I began to wonder what was behind her sage advice. So I googled it. Turns out that science has proven that deep breathing is the way God gave to our bodies to stimulate a parasympathetic reaction, or a calming response to stress. Deep breathing helps to slow down the heart rate, relax the body, bring energy mentally and physically, as well as lower blood pressure. So I slowly took another deep breath. And that’s when I heard it; well more accurately, that’s when I focused and actually listened. The beautiful melody of a song bird who was sitting up in the tree above me. With my racing thoughts and pounding heart I had been watching it sit up on that branch facing the rising sun, but I wasn’t really hearing it; until now. More deep breaths and I could feel the calm wash over me. I believe that God has given us another gift that works like deep breathing but has a more deeply and spiritually calming effect on our soul; Gratitude. Ephesians 5:20 encourages us to “…give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Gratefulness calms our soul like deep breathing calms the body. When we recount God’s faithfulness in our lives, it brings clarity to our faith and trust in Him. I invite you to read that verse from Ephesians as well as this chorus by Helen H. Lemmel out loud at your Thanksgiving celebration this year: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face And the things of earth will grow strangely dim In the light of His glory and grace. Then invite everyone to take a deep breath, give thanks, and dig in! Happy Thanksgiving to you and may the faithfulness of God’s love in Jesus be a blessing to you and your family!

Go & Share God

Trinity Ablaze in Kenyaby Melissa Kasper

Last summer I had the privilege to serve the wonderful Kenyan people in a little town called Insinya. While at Baylor, I took four semesters of Kiswahili with the intentions of going on the TAIK trip, and with the hopes of not needing a translator. My ambitions were a little high, and I definitely still needed a translator, but it was so neat to have a conversation with the people who visited the clinic in their own language, and actually (sort of) understand what they were saying! I cannot begin to describe just how kind and welcoming the people of Kenya are. While we were certainly there for a purpose- to be the hands and feet of Jesus and to provide care their eyes, and more importantly, their spiritual lives, I felt like we were more blessed by them than they were by us. Mwalimu, (my Swahili professor at Baylor,) would tell our class stories how generous and gentle of a people they are, and I saw that over and over again in my time there. I saw it in the mothers who would watch and take care of children who weren’t their own in the clinic. I saw it in the children whose lives were dedicated to taking care of their grandparents. I saw it in the patience of the patients we served, and their gratitude once they were cared for. I saw it in the deep respect and pride they had as a people.

I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to have gone to Kenya. Experiencing a drastically different culture and seeing first-hand how they live was fascinating. Being pushed out of my comfort zone was something I needed, and I walked away with a deep appreciation of the blessings I have. Kenya left a lasting impression of the simple, honest and pure way we should love, and gave a true personification of Jesus in a way I have never experienced before. We planted many seeds and shared the love of Jesus in our time there, but the Kenyans embraced us and blessed us in many ways too, whether they realized it or not. They are a special people, and I hope to have the opportunity to go back! There are a few trips coming up in the Spring, including a medical trip, as well as the vision clinic, with later dates to allow teachers and students to go. Keep your eyes open for more details on these opportunities!

“We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own home to remedy

this kind of poverty.” – Mother TeresaDid you know that 250,000 children enter foster care each year

in the US? Did you also know that 20,000 “age out” (turn 18 and are on their own) each year without ever being adopted? Did

you know that in Klein ISD alone there are 8 facilities that house foster kids? (Residential Treatment Centers) Did you know there are many things that can be done for foster kids without fostering or adopting? We are called to “take up the cause of the fatherless.” If you want to learn more about how to make a difference in a

child’s life, consider attending a free conference Nov. 14. Sign up at www.orphancaresolutions.com. If you would like to get involved in some way, contact MaryAnn Day of Springing

A number of Trinity members have been volunteering with foster kids through Klein ISD. If you want to know more about this

program, we would love to share our stories and give you more information on the programs that are always in need of more

volunteers. No experience necessary!James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and

faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

7The next Texans German Society meeting will be

Nov. 23 in FLC 116.“After you have thought about

your earthly blessings, take some time and meditate on your spiritual blessings from the Lord. Think of your baptism where the Lord adopted you into His family and gave you forgiveness of your sins, life, and salvation.” James Schroeder, LCMS Foundation
