Congratulations to Danielle and Kevin. I will attend the Bishop’s Convocation at Osage Beach, Missouri on Nov. 12-14. Theme: What in Our Past is God Using for the Future? Explanation: In times of rapid change, Christians are tempted either to ignore and scorn the past altogether in search of the newest, quickest fix to what ails them or to worship the past and cling to outmodedpractices as if they were

God’s commands. This year’s Convocation allows participants to harvest the very best from our Reformation heritage while learning new ways to examine and use the past critically, for the sake of the church’s life and mission. This event is the theo-

logical conference for the Central States Synod. Program costs are subsidized by the synod. I expect that we shall have two more baptisms soon. I am also looking forward to starting Communion Instruction for Isaiah

Wilson. I’m still working on the congregation roster, and I hope to have it ready soon. I have begun to make contacts with inactive

members on our list. This is going to take some time, but I hope to clear it up this month.

Property: Did not meet. There are some issues in the preschool that need to be addressed. The bathrooms and the

stairway. Scott (Kevin) moved that we direct the property committee to get bids to fix the stairway and bathrooms, in the pre-

school, over Christmas Break. Motion carried.

Worship: Did not meet. Will meet later this month and work on one service format.

Learning: (Janice) There are 5-6 children in Sunday School on a regular basis. The Swedish Smorgasbord will be

on Dec. 29. The first Wednesday Night Live will be on Thursday Oct. 31 for Halloween. Start at 6. The meal will be from 6

to 6:30. A lesson from 6:40 to 7:00 and the trunk or treat from 7 on. Looking at doing a community can drive on Nov. 29,

tentatively. There will not be a Wednesday night live in Dec. because of the busy month.

Social Ministry: Service and Song will be the last Sunday in October.

Mutual Ministry: Did not meet.

Stewardship: Did not meet.

Witness: Did not meet.

LTCCDC: Enrollment is 17 in 3 day and 11 in 2 day. A thank you to Dennis Johnson for his donation of pumpkins

and to First Bank for storing them. Little tots will be doing two floats, one for the Hyllningsfest and one for Gypsum Oktober-

fest. There is still a need for a dehumidifier in the preschool. The upright freezer in the kitchen is no longer usable.

Shute Memorial: No report Memorial: No report Investment: No report

Financial: Need a recommendation on new health insurance.

Other: Mutual ministry recommends that we sign up on the Gold Plan health insurance for employee and child.

Jo (Steven) moved that we pay the Gold Plan Health Insurance for pastor and child, plus $70 a month towards spousal benefit.

Motion carried.

Jennifer and John Tillman have tentatively said that they would chair the Thanksgiving Committee.

Kevin (Scott) moved that we issue two checks for pastor. One for a two night stay at a hotel and one for the cost of the confer-

ence he will be attending in Osage Beach. These are to be given to him before he leaves for the conference. Motion carried.

Next Meeting 7:30 pm on Nov. 11

Secretary: Jason Buschbom

Church Council meets the first Monday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Lounge.

LIBRARY NEWS

Aubrey Richard, pre-school student, donated a boy of like new, hard cover books. Included are many great

Dr. Seuss and Disney books. Thank you

Aubrey, for all the nice books!

An anonymous donor left One Soldier’s Story, A Memoir by Bob Dole (photos included). Form the front

cover: “Before he became on of America’s most respected statesmen, Bob Dole was an average citizen serving

heroically for his country.. Now, for the first time in his own words, Dole tells the moving story of his

harrowing experience on and off the battlefield, and how it changed his life.” this is a new book; thank you to

the donor.

More books of Inspiration. “When Miracles Happen is a guideposts book series of rue stories that

celebrate and attest to God’s extraordinary presence in our lives.” We have received four very nice books in

this series: Miracles of Kindness, Miracles of Nature, Miracles and Prayer, and Miracles of Healing. Also

received: When You Don’t Know What to Pray-How to Talk to God about Anything by L.E. Shepherd;

Angels in the ER by Robert D. Lesslie, MD; Tornado! Up from the Debris to Thank God, by Mrs. Eric Unruh,

(Personal Accounts of the Greensburg, Kansas Tornado); 50 Truths Worth Knowing (various authors); and

Never Alone, Galina’s Story, by Violet Miller. From cover: “Under the shadow of a government determined

to stamp out Christianity, a faithful servant endures want, Loneliness, and persecution— and finds God her

constant companion, provider, and protector.”

All the inspirational books were donated anonymously: thank you to the donor for bringing them in . Also,

the books are not yet catalogued, so if you are interested in any of them, please see Elaine H.

As we think ahead to the Thanksgiving holiday coming soon, it seems a good time to be thankful for our

library and all the people who have supported it, and to say “Thank You.”

vice project – the collection of canned foods

for the Salina Food Bank. The Assaria

community will be alerted in advance of our

collection. Canned foods can be left on the

porch or a porch light may be turned on to

tell us that canned food items are waiting

for us. The children will return to the

church by 7:45 p.m. Parents can pick them

up at this time.

November Newsletter-

It’s hard to believe we are already a few months into the new school year. Our month was very busy not only

in the classroom but outside of class. We participated in two parades, several field trips, and many fun activi-

ties.

THE BIBILE IS GOD’S BOOK FOR ME –Pre-K

In October, we worked on letters D, E, F, G and H. They learned about Daniel and the Lion’s Den, Queen

Esther, and David and Goliath. We experimented with eggs, visited the Assaria Fire Station, and took a trip to

the Sunnyside Pumpkin Patch. We learned fall songs and then shared them with local businesses as we walked

all over Assaria for our Fall Fun Parade. Next month we will concentrate on letters I, J, K, L and M.

GOD MADE ALL CREATURES– GREAT AND SMALL

The preschool class has been studying about God’s many legged, creepy-crawly creatures. The colors of the

month were yellow, orange, brown, and black. We visited the Assaria Fire Station and learned about fire

safety. This class also took a trip to the Pumpkin Patch and went on a Fall Fun Parade. Next month we will

learn about Thanksgiving, the many things God has given us to be thankful for and how to show that we are

thankful to others. Happy Birthday to Ryla. She turned 4 this month.

Parents– I want to thank all the parents for the work they did on the floats for the Hyllningsfest and Gypsum

fest Parades. It took a lot of work but you did great. We won 1st place in the Gypsum Festival for large floats.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy evening to help build these amazingly cute floats. We also thank

everyone that donated pop, candy or time on Sat. Oct. 19th to run the fundraising games in Gypsum. We made

just over $200.

We are currently doing catalog fundraisers. If you are interested, you can find the catalogs, order forms, and

money envelopes in the Good Shepherd Room.

We have a website! Check out our new website for the latest information, pictures and basic classroom infor-

mation. www.littletotpreschoolassaria.com There are lots of activities planned for the month of November.

Parents, please look for notes to come home or checkout the website. Checkout the upcoming events listed

below.

If you are in need of pumpkins, we have already picked them and they are located at 148 W. 4th Street (Mandy

Parsons 785-452-8110).

Message from Ms. Wendy -I would like to thank all the church members and parents that have donated items

to the “Meet at the Manger”. Without these items, we would not be able to do projects or provide the learning

experiences that these children need. Even with all the donation, I am still asked, “what do you need?” We

will gladly welcome any donation you would like to give (new or old). We are also looking for the bulb

shaped coke or drink bottles. They now have football shapes. If you have any of these empty bottles, we

would take them off your hands. Thank you greatly! Ms. Wendy

Thank you from you friends at Little Tot Christian Child Development Center and Ms. Wendy.
