Apologies up front for the late delivery and less detailed

monthly newsletter. Time slipped away from all of us here

at the club with the excitement of hosting this year’s Men’s

Invitational. To say it took an army would be apropos,

how ever the truth is our small team, from all departments,

pulled together and crushed the delivery with the might of a

much larger unit. Thank you to everyone involved and

also to everyone that saw their usual schedules rearranged

to accommodate the event. It was a great success for the

club, the incredibly diligent committee of members and all

the players - it truly was a “Game Changer”. Check out

next month’s newsletter (which we are starting to compile

now) for all the details and pictures from the event.

NOVEMBER 2018

A quick update on the clubhouse refresher - exterior painting is slated to

begin later this month. The schedule of work around the clubhouse will

surely cause some disruptions in the usual flow of business so please stay

attentive to club communications. New dining chairs, bar stools and banquet

furniture will begin arriving over the next month and the clubhouse landscape

project will take place in stages after painting to accommodate the growing

season. Please have patience with the process; it is a large project with

many moving parts.

Please be sure to scan through all the pages of the newsletter for upcoming

events. This months Birthday Bash and Thanksgiving Day are all ready sold

out, so you will not see the flyers included here. If you have a reservation

and need any details, please call the club.

REMINDER GOLF CARTS ARE NOT ALLOWED OFF GOLF COURSE PROPERTY!

Carts should never leave the parking lot, or be taken into a back yard or onto a street.

If you need a ride home, please ask in the golf shop and we will be happy to give you a lift in

our car.

GOLF CART GUIDELINES 1. Observe the 90 degree

rule

2. Obey the green post and exit the fairway to the cart path

3. Keep carts on the cart path around all tees and greens and on all par 3’s.

4. Handicap flag carts should keep the cart at least 30 feet from the green as much as possible. avoid slopes and limit travel to the shortest route possible.

5. Scatter cart traffic when entering and exiting the fairway

6. Always buddy up in carts. No single riders unless in a threesome.

CHECKING IN FOR GOLF

Please be reminded that if a

Cart Attendant is not present

when you arrive at Bag drop,

you are asked to check in at

the golf shop. This will help

us know who is on the course

or practice area in case of

emergency and to record the

correct charge (if any) to your

account. Most days after

2:30pm, you will need to

come in the golf shop to check

in and retrieve a cart key.

HOLIDAY JOY FUND

In closing and as we head into the holiday season, I

would like to highlight our annual Holiday Joy Fund.

The Men’s Golf Association and Women’s Golf

Association have again volunteered to spear head the

operation. Your donations help reward hourly club

employees for their diligent efforts during the past

year. Richard Kawa and Suzette Sweeny will lead in

the solicitation effort. Please watch for a

communication in the coming week. Thank you, for

your show of support and encouragement!

FROM THE LGL CAMILLE HINSCH

Already November, time seems to be flying by. We had our Ghost and Goblins tournament on October 25th chaired by Karen Oorlog and her committee who did a great job. We had 47 players this year with many more husbands joining us. The food was great thanks to Ken and his kitchen staff. We also welcomed our new member Margaret Bonz. Our Coastal Niner’s next tournament is on November 7th at Halifax Plantation. We will be represented by fourteen members. Good luck ladies. In closing, I want to wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving.

FROM THE WGA SUZETTE SWEENY

We are getting off to a great season. Our Member Member was played last week. We had four flights playing five (5) nine hole matches over a 3 day period, followed by a shootout. Flight winners include: Marian Schille/Margaret Bonz, Margot Healy/Molly Moon, Geri Fitzgerald/Sheila Tebbano, Jackie Poole/Melody Kimmel. The overall winner of the event was the team of Margot Healy and Molly Moon.

Barbara Mott had a hole in one on the 14th hole during the event. This is her second one this year on hole 14.

We completed our first Stableford match on October 16 with a good turnout on all three teams. The next Stableford is scheduled for November 13. Come out and support your team.

The Seagals matches have started. The first match was at Club du Bonmont on October 22. The next match is scheduled for November 12 at Sugar Mill.

The Angel Tree tournament is scheduled for November 26. More information to follow.

LPGA AMATURE GOLF ASSOCIATION

Two eight-person teams from the Daytona Beach-area chapter of the LPGA Amateur Golf Association (formerly the EWGA) traveled to Texas to compete at the Horseshoe Bay Resort after qualifying for the group’s national finals. The Texas tournament will have 50 teams and 400 women competing. The regional competition was held at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples. A total of three teams from Daytona Beach participated in the event, and the Daytona Drivers along with the 19th Hole Champs are going to advance. Teams from the southeast division of the nationwide organization played in the two-day regional team event in Naples. The Drivers took fourth, and the 19th Hole Champs placed in the top 10 - good enough to send them both to Texas on November 2nd and 3rd. The Daytona Drivers team includes Carlene Anthony, Jackie Dacuk, Joan DeSalvo-Mansour, Lois MacDonald, Marilyn O’Connor, Rita Penze, Barbara Shupe and Sharon Turnblad.

The 19th Hole Champs team includes Amy Lamb, Mimi Lenio, Brygitte Lusinski, Barbara Mott, Jackie Poole, Jeanie Schreiber, Suzette Sweeny, Melody Kimmel and Glenda Cook (not pictured).

Why not join the MGA?

The Grand Haven Men’s Golf Association is an important part of the Grand Haven Golf Club. There are many reasons why men in Grand Haven should consider being a part of the league. But here are the top ten reasons that will inform you a little better about us.

1. Weekly game formats that offer the challenge, competition, and friendly gatherings begin-ning at 8:30 am and ending with an enjoyable lunch. The variety of weekly games is motivating and competitive, featuring individual games (four flights), two-man team (two flights), and four-man team competitions. The games include scrambles, shambles, count-as-many-as –you-can, to Bridgeman, Stableford, best ball, better ball, “butter ball”, crisscross, etc., etc., etc. Weekly prizes for top finishers in each flight and closest to the pin.

2. Three “Ryder Cup” style league tournaments that involve all MGA members in a friendly but competitive experience followed by free luncheons sponsored by the MGA

3. Three Shootout Competitions with free beer and beverages for all. League members earn points each week they play in MGA games. The shootout is a competition among the top ten scoring golfers who have earned the highest points during each season.

4. The MGA spearheads the Grand Haven Holiday Joy Fund that acknowledges and rewards all non-management golf club staff for their loyalty and dedication. All Grand Haven Golf Club members are asked to contribute to the Fund.

5. The MGA maintains an effective liaison with the Grand Haven Grounds Crew in the mainte-nance of the course for quality play. The MGA keeps TJ informed of course conditions by keep-ing lines of communications in both directions open ensuring greater satisfaction for the golfers and more thorough understanding about work completed and planned for the course.

6. MGA members have stepped forward to be of service to the club along with the WGA, LGL and other respected club members in reestablishing and maintaining the club’s Handicap Com-mittee in making Grand Haven a respectable place to enjoy competitive golf.

7. The MGA’s leadership role in advising and supporting the Grand Haven Advisory Board.

8. Camaraderie is the key feature of the MGA. Developing, establishing and reconnecting with others in a spirit of friendship, fellowship, and competitive play vital for involvement.

9. The pace of the game has improved dramatically over the past years, with the average weekly game completed in 3.5 - 4 hours.

10. Networking and connection to our neighbors in Grand Haven, a plus for living in this beautiful community.
