(I Thes 5:18 The Message)

Welcome November, the time of Thanksgiv-ing and the transition period between the Sea-son of Pentecost and the Season of Advent. Moreover, we welcome the start of our third quarter of “Kingdom Living” Focal Scriptures which for the next three months will center on “Kingdom Gratitude.”

You will recall that the purpose of our “Kingdom Living” Scriptural Focus has been to identify and share those Biblical texts that have special meaning for us in our lives as Be-lievers. These are the Bible verses which em-power us for abundant living so that God’s Kingdom here on earth is a reality in our lives, as well as in the lives of our family and the Church community where we worship and serve.

2015 HOMECOMING

Wayman celebrated 130 years of service in this community of faith on Sunday, October 25, 2015 during our Annual Homecoming Day. Dr. Gwendolyn Young, First Lady of Silas 1st Baptist Church in Severna Park was the guest speaker. The theme was "Families Remembering, Reconnecting and Being Revitalized Through the Word of God", with a subtopic of "A Reason to Come Home". More than one hundred were fed spiritually and nutritionally. It was a glorious occasion.

On Saturday, October 24th, there was a pre-Homecoming service where we reminisced with songs from Rev. Alan Alston, "The Crea-tion", by James Weldon Johnson, was recited by Sis. Andrea Dar-den, and many gave reflections and testimonies about the blessings they have received by being part of the Wayman Good Hope family. The Saturday service revitalized us and prepared us for the Sunday Celebration. We look forward to more blessings this time next year.

THE PASTOR’S WORD

Think about the things for which we are thankful, and then think about the choices that we have made over the course of our living. Are there people whom we have not forgiven? Are there situations which we have not forgot-ten? Are there scenes from our lives that we continue to replay in our minds? Is there “stuff” that keeps showing up in our memories? If so, it simply means that we have made a choice not to forgive; we have made a choice to keep re-membering; we have made a choice to keep replaying the painful stories and the hurtful scenes over and over again in our minds.

Could it be that some of us have missed the true abun-dance and the true joy because we have made a choice to hold on to an attitude which actually blocks the blessings of God? Could it be that our choice about how we arrange our thoughts has prevented some of us from actually seeing our blessings? And, failing to see our blessings, can we ever expect to find a reason for which to be thankful?

If this is the choice that you make, then your life script becomes living that is filled with bitterness and anger, be-cause it seems that you have been denied the blessings and the abundance of true Kingdom living. Conversations be-come negative—filled with complaints and disparaging remarks about anyone who appears to be living the abun-dant life. And the bottom line is that it is all because of the choices made—the choice to not give thanks to God. It is all in the attitude; and it can be summed up as having an attitude of gratitude. And it is a choice that we all make about how we will live our lives!

The conclusion of the matter is simple. Everything in our lives is a reflection of a choice that we have made. If we want a different result, we need to make a different choice. When we choose not to let go of certain feelings and thoughts, we choose to limit our gratitude—we choose

to limit the number of things for which we can be thankful. We can sing the hymns and songs about being grateful, but the words are simply words in a song that have no real con-nection to our lives because we refuse to choose to be thankful in all things. Too often, we pick and choose when and for what and for whom we will be thankful. Yet, this attitude—this choice—goes against the Word of God which says:

“In everything give thanks, for this is God’s

will for you in Christ Jesus.”

God who created us knows that in order for us to live fully and abundantly, we have to wrap our minds and thoughts around “being thankful.”

Therefore, let us give thanks to God for the power to live and for the power that God gives us to have control over our thoughts, our mind sets, and our positions. Let us re-member the power of those words, “Get thee behind me Satan,” and let us move forward to real “Kingdom Living”, embracing the abundance that God has in store for all who believe on His Word and who trust in His grace and His mercy.

And let us be firm in our resolve to choose to put aside the complaining, fault-finding, and fear which reflect that we do not trust God. And let us never forget that true Kingdom living is about trusting God; and knowing that God has given us a purpose, a mission, and work to do for the building of His Kingdom here on earth.

And finally, let us always give thanks for the power to continue “…to run with patience the race that is set before us, always looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” (Heb 12:1b-2b)

Scriptural Thought for the Conference Year 2015-2016 The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him. Do not be deceived,

God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh

will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal

life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while

we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the

faith. Galatians 6:6-10 NASB

Roger & Sylvia Nolan shown at the Wayman Homecoming Dinner

On October 23, 2015, Roger and Sylvia Nolan celebrated 61 years of marriage and Sylvia’s retirement with approxi-mately 200 family and friends at Hella’s Restaurant in Millersville, Maryland. Mrs. Nolan recently retired after over 56 years of employment as a dental assistant. From 1959-1990 she worked for Rev. Samuel P. Callahan, D.D.S., Anne Arundel County’s first African American dentist. From 1990—2015 at the U.S. Naval Academy Naval Health Clinic. It was a joyous occasion and all who attended were blessed.

News from the Missionary Society

Many of you know I like putting jigsaw puzzles together.

So when our Women's Ministry decided to put a 500 piece

puzzle together at our meeting, I was excited. All of the

women present played a different role in completing the

puzzle. Just as each piece of a puzzle fits together, so does

our lives interlock. Some of us are the edges that hold firm

to our beliefs, encouraging others and patiently waiting for

another piece to be connected. Others are the pieces that

bond together, like the colors of the picture painted on

each piece, looking alike, yet uniquely made. Each piece

has its own place in the puzzle. No other piece can fit in

its place. We all kept searching the board to find the miss-

ing pieces. A few pieces fell on the floor, one of us picked

it up and put it where it belonged. Isn't this what we do when our family members or church member go astray? Until

the last piece is put in its place, the puzzle is not complete. Ladies, are you the missing piece? See you on the second

Friday.

Something to Think About

On Saturday October 17th the Irene D. Williamson Missionary Society hosted the Celeste Duckette Area Meeting. Area Director Selerya Moore conducted our meeting. Also in attendance were our Washington Confer-ence President, Jeanette Hite, and our former President, Oveta Watkins. After the conclusion of our meeting Zessie Carter of Reid Temple was crowned Dorcas Queen for the Celeste Duckette Area.

Thank you to Agnes Coates and Jackie Harris for their help in serving lunch. A special thank you to Claudette White who prepared her famous chicken stew and vegetable as part of our lunch.

On Sunday October 18th we celebrated our Annual Missionary Day during our morning worship service. Our guest Preacher was Rev. Erica Bennett, Associate Pastor at Bethel AME Church in Montclair Virginia. Rev. Bennett’s sermon “It is Time to Grow”, was from Col. 3:12-17.

Thank you to everyone who took part in making our Annual Day a Spiritual Blessing.

Sis. Jeanette Hite, Washington Conference President and Sis. Oveta Watkins, Former

Sis. Zessie Carter , Dorcas Queen for the Celeste Duckette Area.

If you would like to donate for the Missionary Society Thanksgiving and/or Christmas Drives, please contact Sis. Linda Johnson.
