New Member Spotlight:

Nick Offerjost

Every month we will try and spotlight a new or returning CKI member so we can all get to know each other a little bit better!

Let’s get to know new member, Nick! Nick is a sophomore Chemical Engineering major from Stafford, VA. He is interested in using his degree towards something in the medical field. At tech, Nick is a part of Alpha Chi Sigma, a co-ed professional chemistry fraternity (the only national professional chemistry fraternity in the United States!). Members of this chapter organize and provide free tutoring for General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry students. Nick is also involved in the Galileo Engineering Learning Community and the Quidditch team. Nick joined Circle K at Virginia Tech

because he was involved in similar service organizations in high school and heard about our club through friends who were members. His favorite part about CKI at VT is the weekly meetings and his favorite project is the Kiwanis lunch (every Thursday from noon to 1 P.M.), which he has attended multiple times. Keep up the good work, Nick!

Live to Serve. Love to Serve.

Matt Johnson, a freshman English Literature major from Woodbridge, Virginia, was chosen as member of the month for October! This is in recognition of his participation in a wide variety of CKI events, fundraisers, and socials, as well as his excellent attendance at CKI’s weekly meetings. For the District, Matt attended the Fall Membership Rally at the beginning of the month in Front Royal, VA and the District Large Scale Service Project/Total K Day in Harrisonburg, VA. In the past couple of months, Matt has attended all of the major CKI events including volunteering at the Lyric

Theater, setting up for the Halloween Carnival at the Blacksburg Community Center, going to the Walnut Springs horse stables, and attending the social at Sinkland Farms. Matt was a huge help in passing out flyers for our fundraiser at PK’s to support Stop Hunger Now and is also a part of the builder’s club committee. Fantastic job!

Live to Serve. Love to Serve.

...that CKI is hosting a Stop Hunger Now event?

Stop Hunger Now is an

international hunger relief

organization based in Raleigh,

NC. The organization

coordinates the distribution of

food and other life-saving aid

around the world. This is

accomplished by packaging

dehydrated, high protein, and

highly nutritious meals that

combine rice, soy, dehydrated

vegetables and a flavoring mix

into small meal packets. These

packets are to be used in crisis

situations and in school feeding

programs for schools and

orphanages in developing

countries around the world.

CKI at VT is on a mission to raise

$2,500 by spring of 2013 to

participate in SHN and join the

fight against hunger.

See Lesley Read for any questions

on how to get involved.
