Hey Division 1,

December is almost here, and there is so much to do! I’m sure that you

have all sent in your dues, and if you have not, please talk to me as soon as

possible. We have Key Leader coming up as well as a lot of other events,

so we’ll be very busy for the last four months of this service year!

I hope that you are all preparing for District Convention 2012 which will

be held at the Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch, New Jersey this year. I

hope to have many, if not all, of you attend! Your new lieutenant governor

will be inducted at DCON, so be sure to come and support your division!

This service year has been outstanding so far; let’s make the rest of it even

better. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to con-

tact me at any time.

Yours in Caring and Service

Cecilia Kang

Kiwanis Family Conference 2011

FROM FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH TO SUNDAY,

November 6th, eight New Jersey District Board Mem-

bers and our Kiwanis New Jersey District governor

attended the Kiwanis Family Conference (KFC) at

the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain,

North Carolina. From bonding with members of the

Kiwanis Family from other districts to spending six

hours in an airport together, the district board mem-

bers who attended the conference grew and learned a

lot throughout the incredible and fun-filled weekend.

The whole weekend was a great bonding

experience. It was also a great chance for us to make

new friends with many K-Family members from dif-

ferent states. But most importantly, it was an out-

standing learning opportunity.

At the beginning of the conference, every-

one was put into small families. Saturday night was

definitely very interested with the “Breaking Bounda-

ries” activity. Everyone in each family went around

answering questions with very little explanation (if

any at all). Questions varied greatly. Some questions

were simple while others were deeper. “What is the

most beautiful thing about people?” One thing

would definitely be how accepting people can be,

because everyone in the group listened but didn’t

judge. The environment was so comfortable, and no

answer was denied.

KFC has definitely been an eye-opening

experience. Saturday afternoon, the eight board

members hiked five miles up and down a mountain.

It was tiring, cold, and challenging, but it was defi-

nitely worth it. Many of us grew closer, and the view

at the top of the mountain was absolutely gorgeous.

And in retrospect, I’m glad that we were all able to

experience what we did together. The whole trip was

wonderful, North Carolina was beautiful, and the

members of the K-Family have really showed me that

family isn’t what I thought it was. Family isn’t just

blood or the close friends who are always there for

you. Family is the group of people who accept you.

Kiwanis Family Conference 2011: It was

the experience of a lifetime.

Divisions 1A and 1B LTG Elections!

When? Saturday, January 21st, 2012 at 2 PM

Where? Atlantic County Library- 1 Swift Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234

Please send at least 2 representatives

from your club to vote!

Division 1’s 5th Presidents’ Council

Meeting will be right before the elections

at 11 AM at the Atlantic County Library!

DISTINGUISHING OFFICERS (previously stated on our Facebook page) I really want my officers to go above and beyond. I’m not going to distinguish people who just do their jobs. I want to distinguish officers who go

beyond the call of duty. Out of the 70+ officers in division 1, I’m sad to say that I can only see 4 officers being distinguished as of now. I want those

who are distinguished to know that they really deserve it, and I’m going to be VERY strict when distinguishing my officers. I know that you are all

outstanding leaders and individuals, but I would love to see more of that in your work. Please don't hesitate to ask what you can do to improve,

and please never think that you can never come and talk to me. If you ever need anything at all, I'm here for you guys. I want you all to work to the

best of your abilities because I know that you're all capable of doing so. I would just like to see more effort from many of you.

We really do have such a large division, and it's without a doubt one of the strongest divisions in the district. However, I know that our division has

much room for improvement.

I know that many of you are seniors, so I know that Senioritis is catching up. But remember that you are club officers and a very important part of

this division and district. You all took on the responsibilities of your positions in April, and I hope to see you all take full control of those responsi-

bilities until the end of your terms.

I would love to recognize and distinguish all of you; I just need to see a lot of improvement and more involvement. We have about four more

months left of this service year. These last few months are going to be incredibly busy so let's make them count.

If you're having any difficulties, I'm just a phone call/email/text/IM away.

A word from the District

Programs Committee!

Div 13 LTG Nidhi Gurjar and

Div 14 LTG Celina Baquiran

Autism New Jersey is a nonprofit agency that aims to provide a safe environment for individuals

that are affected by the disorder, along with their families, friends, and community. They work with

those affected and professionals to further prevent Autism in hopes of one day that they will find a

cure. Through advocating with families, the media, professionals, and more, Autism New Jersey is

an organization that provides information, support, and training to those who need it. General Facts about Autism

- Autism now affects 1 in 110 children

- More children will be diagnosed with Autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes, and

cancer combined

- Autism is the fastest growing mental disability in the U.S.

- Boys are 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with Autism than girls Our Goal

Autism New Jersey is the domestic advocacy focus for the 2011-2012 service year.

Invisible Children, our international advocacy focus, has a day of silence every May to

advocate for the children in Uganda whose voices are not heard. The New Jersey District

of Key Club International will be doing the same thing, but for Autism. On January 5, 2012,

students will be taking part in a Day of Silence for Autism, to advocate for those who are

affected by Autism and do not have the ability to communicate their thoughts. Students

will not be speaking for an entire 24 hours, in or out of school on January 5th, 2012.

Attached you will find a permission slip that all students must have signed by their parents

and an additional permission slip that the student’s teachers must sign in order to take

part in this activity throughout the entire school day
