The health and nutritional needs of an elderly man were satisfied throughThe action of two Lions who saw his need and had compassion. The senior citizen was always very grateful for the act of kindness.

November 4 Health Services & Community Direct

The physical and social needs of the senior citizens of the two golden AgedHomes in August Town and the Bedward community, and the eight Shut-ins” in the Community of Elletson Flats, yet again, received the needed attention of the Lions Club. They received packages of groceries and toilet articles and the longed for hugs from the Lions who delivered the packages with much love. The geriatrics and “shut-ins “ received the items with lots of praise and love for the Lions.Participating were: Lion President Milton, Lions Josephine and Tony and guest Sandra.

November 7 . Health Services

The Lions Club of Mona joined forces with the members of the ShortwoodUnited Church and conducted a Health Fair with the sole purpose of satisfying some of the health needs of the needy members of the environs of the church and other surrounding communities.The Club conducted vision screening and weight management including BMI and nutrition counseling. Forty two persons including children had their visual acuity tests done. Eight persons were referred to the Fish Ophthalmology Clinic for follow –up and management. Lions participating in this activity were: Lion President and secretary Lion Evadney, Lions Josephine, Anthony and Barry.

Sight Conservation The Club used the opportunity of the membership expo to conduct vision screening and health talks on weight management and checks on Body Mass Index. Forty-five such checks were done and counseling done where necessary.Of the vision screening that was done four persons were referred to the FISH Clinic for management and treatment Blood pressure checks revealed persons who were also referred to their doctors for management. The motto “WE SERVE” was really exemplified on this day.

November 14 Health Services :

The Lions Club participated in the Special Olympics Medfest held at the UWI Mona Bowl. The Lions were involved in registering and screening Athletes for visual acuity and other tests.Lions participating were: Lion President, Milton and secretary and Lions Myrna, Barry, Keith Archer, Keith Peart, Patricia and two guests

November 14 Membership

Lion President Milton and Club Secretary Evadney attended the meeting of the LEO Club of Mona .Lion Dave, Leo Advisor, Dave and Leo President, welcomed the President and Secretary to the meeting.

November 16 . Membership/Social meeting

The Club, in remembering World Diabetes Day and Diabetes monthused the social meeting to increase members’ and guest’s awareness of the disease diabetes, its history, presenting signs and symptoms, complications and management. The presentation was done by one of the Lions who had a background in health and illness management. The presentation was well received and the audience expressed their appreciation for the information and would act on information as it related to food intake.Sixteen Lions and a guest were in attendance.

Membership/Membership exposition

The Lions Club in its quest for increased visibility and quality membership conducted a membership expo at one of the busy Liguanea shopping plazas. Some information seekers were not aware of Lions International, or of the activities of Lions Clubs in Jamaica. An analysis of the day’s event showed four (4) very good prospects two of whom attended the business meeting following the event, five (5) prospectives and three who were interested in the Leo movement Participating in the day’s activities were: – Lion President Milton, Evadney, Josephine, Ba rry, Archer, Winston, Denise, Keith, Cynthia and Leo Andrew. November 22

Membership

The Club in celebrating 15 years of service to humanity participated in 5

the church service of the Mona Heights Chapel. The Lion President gave a brief overview of Lions International generally and the Club locally. Leo Andrew read the scripture reading – Colossians 1, verses1-14 while Lion Dave read a poem given to him to read by the preacher.Lions and Leo attending the service were: Lion President, Lions Myrna, Dave, Cynthia, Marlize, Josephine, Pat, Keith, Evadney and Leo Andrew.The elders and members of the church were impressed by the work of Lions Clubs and implored us to encourage members of the conger

November 22 Membership Interclubbing

Lion Milton, Club President and two guests attended the New Kingston brunch held at a Lions residence in Norbrook.

Novemer 29 Membership/Region Meeting

The Lion President Milton, Lions Evadney, Keith Archer, Keith Peart Cynthia Peart and Josephine attended the second Region Meeting that was held at the SDC in Spanish Town.

November 6 Youth Services International Peace Poster Competition

All Schools participating in the competition submitted their entries. The Advisory Team then identified a judge who would select the poster that addressed the theme as presented by Lions International.

Lion President Milton and Lion Dr. Keith Peart attended and participated in the Annual Prize Giving Ceremony of the Papine High School. The Club donated the award of Excellence to the top performing student.

Three schools participated in the competitionThe winning entry was from the Mona High School and the piece has since been sent to Suriname for judging at the Multiple District level.Twelve (12) year old Yonique Taylor was the winner and her thoughts on Peace was, “With peace the world would be a better place for us all”.

November 1-30 Information Technology

Most of the communication that takes place between the club and members is through the use of the internet via e-mail, text messages, teleconferencing. Members who are proficient in the use of the computer and manipulating its functions have helped other Lions to improve their computer literacy skills. Use of the internet has had economic effect – reduce the amount spent on petrol.
