Thanks to everyone who participated in the Studio Tourevery artist, volunteer, donor, and art lover. It was a wonderful success, and there is plenty of credit to go around. Santa Fe pianist Ron Grinage presents a recital entitled “Piano Works by Russian Masters” to benefit the Santa Fe Community Orchestra on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 4 pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The program will include selections from Rachmaninov’s Preludes Opus 32; Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons; Prelude and Fugue Op. 87, No. 24 in D minor by Shostakovich; and works by Prokofiev and Scriabin. Admission is free and all donations benefit the Santa Fe Community Orchestra. For more information, visit sfco.org or call 505-466-4879. Mr. Grinage is a popular recitalist, accompanist, teacher, and lecturer. He joined the music staff of the Santa Fe Opera in 1987 and is currently Electronic Libretto Operator for the summer opera productions. Additionally he has performed with the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, the Berkshire Choral Festival in Santa Fe, Coro de Camara, the New Mexico Pro Coro, and Taos Soundscapes. During his 26 year tenure as Music Director at La Casa Sena’s popular Cantina, Ron prepared and presented more than 45 Broadway shows. A long-time

Santa Fe pianist Ron Grinage presents a recital entitled “Piano Works by Russian Masters” to benefit the Santa

Fe Community Orchestra on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 4 pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The

program will include selections from Rachmaninov’s Preludes Opus 32; Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons; Prelude

FRIENDS OF LAS VEGAS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE Interpretive programs are repeated at 12:00 noon and 1:30 PM every Sunday in November!

Sunday, November 2, Santa Fe Raptor Center Live Raptor Presentation, Volunteers care for

injured birds in order to release them back into their natural habitat. Those raptors, which

cannot be released due to extensive injuries, are given a loving home and used in educational

programs such as this. Bring the Kids!

Two days of events in Las Vegas, NM to celebrate its Fred Harvey/Harvey Girl heritage and future–with the

restoration of Castaneda Hotel (1898) and the comeback of the Historic Plaza Hotel (1882).

More details as they develop, but here are the basics (which should give you reason enough to plan to be in

town that weekend, and reserve your room at the Plaza)

On Saturday 11/8 at 4 pm there will be a private benefit cocktail reception and tour of the Castaneda (proceeds

support MainStreetLasVegas and include a one-year membership in that civic organization). Price is $100 per

couple, which also includes the dinner event described below. (Space is limited so make your order now! )

This will be followed at 6 pm by a special public dinner at the Plaza–with a Fred Harvey menu–featuring talks

by Stephen Fried (about reclaiming the city’s past) and Allan Affeldt (about grabbing the city’s future) and a

group discussion, including a preview of “Setting the Standard,” the upcoming permanent Fred Harvey exhibit

at the New Mexico History Museum (which opens 12/7) by curator Meredith Davidson.

On 11/9 at 1pm the LVNM debut of the PBS documentary The Harvey Girls: Opportunity Bound at the Plaza

balltoom will take place at the Plaza ballroom, followed by a panel discussion about women in the west. This

event is free and supported by the New Mexico Humanities Council but seats are limited, please RSVP to

American Journeys:

21st Century American Fiction: A Reading and Discussion series at Donnelly

Library led by local scholar Brandon Kempner. This reading group featured lively

discussion of Pulitzer Prize winning works of fiction.

Thursday, November 13 Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

The discussion will begin at 7 p.m. in Donnelly Library at 802 National Ave. Copies of

the books are available from Donnelly Library.

LAS VEGAS CCHP OFFICE FRED HARVEY EXHIBIT! AT CCHP 116 Bridge Street

We are so pleased to have the Historic Fred Harvey Exhibit on display at our office. This is a private collection

thus the display will not be here for an extended period time. The Exhibit will be on display through

November 15, 2014. Our office hours are from 10:00-3:00 daily.

BACH FEST 2014! NMHU Music Department presents a Bach Festival, Sunday, November 16th

at Ilfeld Auditorium. Both Concert Choir and Madrigal Choir will perform with members of the Santa Fe

Orchestra and the Santa Fe Bach Choir. Linda King will also play a piano concerto.

The Las Vegas Arts Council will email invitations to participate in the December Small Works Exhibit in

the next week or so. Open to all paid members, this is a fun, eclectic, Christmas-y show of fine arts and

crafts with NO ENTRY FEE. Please forward the invitations to artists and craftspeople you know would like

to participate.
