ENTHRONEMENT of the SACRED HEART of JESUS
“I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life…One of the twelve promises Jesus gave to St.Margaret Mary Alacoque. In our present time, does not our family life need the help of the Sacred Heart? St. John Paul II said: “ At a moment of history in which the family is the object of numerous forces that seek to destroy and deform it, and aware that the well-being of society…is intimately tied to the good of the family...(the Church prays) may Christ the Lord, the universal King, the King of families, be present in every Christian home. Such a family will enjoy the abundant blessings of Jesus reigning in their midst through the Enthronement.” For information regarding the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart, please contact Mary Gallimore, 282-1383,

NEWS FROM HAITI Fr. Asmith reports; Although there was no damage from the hurricane, there is a high risk for cholera for the surrounding area because Colladere has no access to treated water. He also writes that a “major preoccupation” of his is finding resources to dig a septic tank for his own toilets which are in disrepair. The traditional toilet is in "bad shape.” The Manna Packs developed by Feed My Starving Children have ar r ived in Colladere. Our Church partners with FMSC twice a year to help feed the children there. Each pack consists of white rice, textured soy protein, dehydrated vegetables, and vegetative flavoring with a vitamin and mineral blend. The preparers there cook them in big pots by adding water. Altogether the shipment included 35 pallets containing 1,260 boxes of MannaPack Rice @ 42,322 lbs., is a $59, 875.20 Gift-In- Kind Value.
Sunday, November 6, 2016 Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
LIFE EVERLASTING The second book of Maccabees tells a powerful story, and a rather gruesome one at that. But central to it, beyond the horrible deaths inflicted upon the brothers and their mother, is their belief in the promise of resurrection and life everlasting in God. Paul asks the Thessalonians to pray for him as he spreads Christ’s message of love, so that he might be delivered from other nonbelievers anxious to do him harm. The apostle is confident in such prayer, just as he is confident in the everlasting support of Jesus and God the Father. And there’s that “everlasting” word again. The Sadducees, not buying the idea, ask Jesus an interesting—albeit meaningless—question about the status of married life at the Resurrection. He tells the non-believers that marriage isn’t an issue for the risen children of God. More importantly, he assures them that their ancestors do live on in God, even as evidenced by the Father’s words to Moses. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co

Mary, Undoer of Knots Novena
Sixth Week
Praying for the Unbelieving Job 12:7-10 “Even birds and animals have much they could teach you; ask the creatures of earth and sea for their wisdom. All of them know that the Lord’s hand made them. It is God who directs the lives of his creatures; everyone’s life is in his power” (GNT)
Daily Intention Blessed Virgin Mary, who through your faith and obedience loosed the knot tied for the human race by Eve’s sin, remember now God’s children who do not believe in your Son and what He has done for them. Examine the knots of pride, arrogance, bitterness, and cynicism that keep unbelievers from seeing God, and together with Sain Thomas the Apostle, undo these knots, opening their eyes to faith. Let your grace warm and soften their hearts and open their ears to hear the Gospel. Lastly, Mother, show me where I have lacked compassion or understanding of these poor souls, and lend me your humility toward them, for I too am wounded by unbelief. Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for us.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In the seventeenth century, English Catholics, many of them wealthy and well educated, looked to the American colonies as a place to regain a measure of religious freedom. In Ireland, the so-called penal laws were even harsher than in England, as a minority Parliament tried to force the conversion of the population by denying the majority political and economic power. Beginning in 1691, laws were passed that punished dissenters, principally Catholics, but also causing hardship for Jews, Quakers, and others. There were acts forbidding “mixed marriage” or sending children “beyond the seas” for schooling. Catholics were taxed at double the common rate, barred from the legal professions and from university, and not allowed to build churches or own a decent horse. In 1793 the situation began to change, as it became clear that the economic persecution would not drive the majority away from Catholicism. Gradually, laws were repealed until by 1829 freedom was won, although Catholics at university were ineligible for honors, and until the 1920s and the Republic, the Church of Ireland was the state church, funded by the taxes of all citizens. —Rev.
