From the Principal’s Desk...

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As I write this November letter, we are enjoying unseasonably warm weather. I am thank-

ful for air conditioning!

November is the month we take pause and remember with love the souls that have passed

in our lives. We pray that they are enjoying eternal life with our loving God. Also this

month, we express our thankfulness for all of God’s gifts to us. We cherish our families,

our friends, our freedom and our faith.

I am thankful to you for choosing to send your child to Holy Rosary Regional for a Catho-

lic education. I realize this is a huge sacrifice for some of you. The faculty, staff and I take

our responsibility to educate your child in the ways of the Lord very seriously. Your chil-

dren are a reflection of what you are teaching in your homes and what we are teaching in

school. It is heart-warming to see our children grow in their faith.

I am also thankful for the countless parents who have stepped up financially or with their

gift of time to strengthen Holy Rosary. We have accomplished a lot this year, and there are

plans for so much more. Our Board of Limited Jurisdiction is moving forward, and the dif-

ferent committees are meeting and making plans for new activities, fundraising through the

community, and significant renovations to the school. It is an exciting time at Holy Rosary.

We welcome you to join us in this resurgence. There is role that fits everyone!

I will continue to pray for you and I am thankful for your support. There have been some

difficult times and you have been amazingly caring.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Letter from The Governing Board of Pastors

Father Quindlen, Epiphany of Our Lord, Parish, Plymouth Meeting

Science

Pre-K is working with their eighth grade buddies on engineering challenges like building shelters, bridges,

ramps, and boats. Kindergarten has been working with seventh grade on Science lessons involving pump-

kins and apples.

First and second grade has been creating solutions to solve fairy tale engineering challenges. They have

been devising solutions to help the characters in fairy tales. First grade designed a boat to help the ginger-

bread man cross the river, while second grade is building a slide so Rapunzel can escape from the tower.

Third grade have been learning all about states of matter through investigations. They have been using

many Science tools, such as forceps, hand lenses, flasks, beakers, test tubes, falcon tubes, and graduated

cylinders.

Fourth grade is learning about organisms. They just completed their first keynote presentation on inverte-

brates.

Fifth grade has been learning about the Engineering Design Process. They have been completing challenges

by creating and testing balloon rockets. They are currently creating a device to keep an egg safe when it is

dropped.

Sixth grade is learning about the circulation of the Earth's air and water. They created a poster about the

layers of the Earth's atmosphere. Seventh grade is learning about cells. They created a 3D model of a uni-

cellular organism. Eighth grade is learning about forces and motion. They will be testing different materials

to determine which is best for a parachute. Then they will build and test it.

4th Grade

Fourth Grade is looking forward to their field trip to the Churchville Nature Center. The students have

been learning about Native American tribes in Pennsylvania. The children will have the opportunity to

make early Native Crafts, explore longhouses and play games which the Native Americans played as chil-

dren. In class, the students wrote stories about the lives of Native American tribes, did shape poetry in-

volving the Native Americans and drew longhouses.

2nd Grade

Second Grade is beginning to prepare for Reconciliation, and we are so excited! We just finished learning

all about place value in math and are moving into addition! We are gearing up to learn all about pumpkins

and celebrate Halloween in 2A! We looking forward to seeing all the costumes!

Computers

In computer class grades 4 through 8 have been working on and presenting Audio books in Halloween

themes on different platforms. Grades 1, 2, and 3 have been developing problem solving loving skills in

Graveyard Golf.

Mrs. Luthy’s 5th Grade Class

The Halloween season is alive in fifth grade writing classes! As students create their Halloween saga cre-

ations, their writing skills are challenged during their class writing workshop. The sagas teach the children

to create a setting, add suspense, and conclude with a surprise ending. There is a catch to the saga--the

stories must have a beginning, middle and end, but is limited to no more than 100 words!

In addition to the Halloween sagas, creating epitaphs is the next writing task. Students complete the epi-

taphs on tombstones, which excites them! Learning about rhythm and rhyme patterns have been intro-

duced and are proving to be a challenge, but the class is up to the task!

Resource Room

The Resource Room has an "Idiom of the Week" posted in the hallway. The Idiom of the Week is shared

every day in the morning announcements with a brief explanation and example of how it can be used.

This month, Holy Rosary students have heard about "toss ups", "a blessing in disguise", and "adding fuel to

the fire". There are so many more idioms to learn that help us understand each other and communicate

effectively!

3rd Grade

Third grade has been nothing but exciting this year! In ELA, the students were able to design their own

pet pumpkin at home, now they are beginning to write journal entries about their adventures with their

pets. We are excited to get our creative writing started. In math, we have started learning our multiplica-

tion facts. This is new to us in Third grade and we are very excited to be learning our times tables. In Re-

ligion, we have been reading the story of Moses and his journey with the Israelites to Canaan. We are

creating a booklet to learn about the Ten Commandments and why they are an important part of our

faith. We have also learned about The Mysteries of the Rosary and how to pray the Rosary in honor of

the month of October. Third grade is the first year where the students are introduced to a Social Studies

curriculum and so far we are loving it! We have been learning about the different types of communities

and where they can be found throughout our own country and the world. This week, we have started a

new chapter that teaches us about different cultures, specifically their traditions and customs. Soon, we

will be working on a culture project to highlight our own cultures.

1st Grade

The first grade have been so busy learning so many new

things. They were excited by their visit with Father Quindlen who

came to their classroom to give each of them a special Guardian An-

gel gold coin and to talk to them about their own guardian an-

gels. They all said the prayer to the Guardian Angel together. They

all had a great trip to Solly Brothers farm with the kindergarten and

learned so many things about pumpkins, gourds and apples. They all

made their own construction paper pumpkin and wrote a story

about it using adjectives. They are hanging outside our classroom

and they all did an awesome job. They are looking forward to a visit

from Mrs. Linda Poland from the William Jeanes Library who will be

reading them some Halloween stories. We are now getting ready

for All Saints' Day when we put on a special presentation for our

parents dressing up and telling about our favorite saint. I know they

will do a great job!

Pre-K

Along with beginning to work on letters and numbers, Pre-K has had a busy and fun month engaging in Fall

activities! The class met with their munchkin friends in Kindergarten to discuss what they love about

school and make a Fall tree project. The class also worked with their prayer partners to decorate pump-

kins that they got to take home! During God Time, they learned all about Jesus and how to be a good

friend.

We are in the process of wrapping up a few Fall Sports and Events:

Congrats to the Girls JV Volleyball Team for an undefeated regular sea-

son and a post season tournament win over at Cardinal O’Hara! A very

successful season for a great group of girls!!

The girls CYO Sports programs have been very successful lately (two

straight IHM JV tournament wins and counting! And now a great post

season run in JV Volley-

ball!)

The Varsity Girls Volleyball also made the playoffs! What a

great start to the school year!

Girls Basketball is right around the corner! Come out and

support the girls in their quest for world domination!

The Varsity Soccer Team won it’s first postseason game!

These boys and girls have grown as a team throughout the year, and their hard work (and great coaching)

is paying off!! Congrats to the team on such a fun and rewarding season!

All families may now apply for financial aid for the 2020-2021 school year. The website is factsmgt.com/

aid. Families can work directly with the FACTS Company in order to verify all information. Questions on

completing the application may be answered by calling the FACTS helpline directly at 1-866-441-4637.

To be awarded any and all financial aid, families must be registered for the 2020/2021 school year and all

tuition for this school year must be paid in full.

changing and the actual Box Tops that you clipped will be phased out so having this app is important

going forward!

I am currently working in counting the Box Tops submitted for the Fall contest! Winners will be an-

nounced after November 1st, stay tuned!!

The student with the most Box Tops submitted will receive a $5 Menchie’s gift card, and the classroom
