Edward A. “Ike” Isaacson left us recently to join his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary, in resting. He does so with a lifetime legacy of ser- vant leadership to his commu- nity. After his Libbey High School graduation in 1954, he served two years in the U.S. Navy, leading to more than 20- plus years in the Naval Air Re- serve. Ike also had 60-plus years of active membership and lead- ership with Bethel Lutheran Church, 60-plus years member- ship to the International Broth- erhood of Electrical Workers, Local #8, not to mention his family, Masonry and Shrine in- volvement. The Monclova, Ohio, resident was a 32nd Degree Mason of Northern Light Lodge #40 and a Zenobia Shriner. In the Zenobia Highlanders he served two terms as president and seven as finance officer. His breadth of involve- ment included multiple execu- tive roles including: trustee, president Ohio Shrine Associa- tion, president Great Lakes Shrine Association, Zenobia Roadrunners, Royal Order of Jesters and commander of the Legion of Honor. With his Shrine travels for children to and from Shriner hospitals, assistance in putting on numerous successful Shrine Circuses, Ike received his Divan line appointment in 1992. It was December of 1997 at a stated meeting that the Illustrious P.P. Fred Leverton nominated Ike for Illustrious Potentate of Zenobia Temple for 1998. The ballet cast was unanimous in support of Ike’s nomination. In his free time, Ike served on the board of BOOST (Building on Our Strength Together), a mental health support group, the advisory board of Beatrice W. Owens Assembly, and Interna- tional Order of Rainbows for Girls. He and Mary also volun- teered as EMTs and firefighters for Monclova Township. In his passing, Ike leaves be- hind four children, their spouses, 10 grandchildren, two great- grandchildren with three more on the way. His legacy of love for family, faith and community is a large one. His outreach amongst his multiple memberships, lead- ership roles and involvement touched the lives of so many. Ike’s definition of family ex- tended beyond his relatives, but all those in life that you collected along the way on your journey to love and care for each other. Ike quoted Will Rogers say- ing, “I never met a man I didn’t like” and always wore a smile. We celebrate Ike’s legacy as a servant leadership and will honor all of his contributions. Ike’s outreach and involvement during his lifetime will offer us memories to continue moving forward with his passion for making a difference and positive change that touched so many lives. EDWARD A. “IKE” ISAACSON 1936 - 2018 On September 9, 2018, Shriners in Northwest Ohio lost a dedicated Brother and Shriner. Ill. Sir Gerald A. (Jerry) Bryant moved peacefully on to the ce- lestial lodge in the sky. Noble Jerry served as Potentate of Zenobia in 1997 and was sup- ported by his Lady Kathy. Jerry was raised a Master Mason in Robinson Locke Lodge No. 659 and was a mem- ber of both Scottish Rite and York Rite bodies. As a Shriner he was active in the Director’s Staff Unit, and served as the Temple Ceremonial Director for several years. Being elected to the Board of Governors of the Shriners Hos- pital for Children - Chicago was a proud moment for him. He gained emeritus status after serv- ing 10 years on the board, and continued to attend for more than 10 years following. Jerry’s career was an educa- tor, with 18 years at Owens Community College. He was the Dean of Continuing Education and later became the Director of Auxiliary Services. Prior to Owens, he was a coordinator/su- pervisor at Penta County Junior Vocational School for 15 years. Ill. Sir Bryant was a proud Shriner and enjoyed serving his fellow Nobles. He was interested in helping Zenobia move for- ward in a proper way. He chaired the 2000 Committee, which guided the move from Madison Avenue to Broadstone Boule- vard. Jerry’s support of Zenobia will be missed. We express our sympathy to his lady, Kathy, and his family. Ill. Sir Bryant will be remem- bered as a good leader in the Zenobia Shrine and a strong sup- porter of the Shrine hospital sys- tem. Many events have taken place since my last dialogue with the membership. GLSA was held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this year. It was great to see our Imperial Potentate, Sir Jim Cain, and his Lady Patsy, again. We also got to see Imperial Assistant Rabban, Sir Jim Smith, and his Lady Alice; Imperial High Priest and Prophet, Sir Bill Bailey, and his Lady Debbie, and Imperial Captain of the Guard Sir, Larry Leib, and his Lady Debbie. A tradition dating back 40+ years that occurs as GLSA, is that the Zenobia Divan decorates the Potentate’s room while he and his Lady are at their counterpart’s dinner. The theme is whatever the Divan comes up with, but is usually based on information they’ve gathered while going through the Divan line. Lady Chris and I were entertained by our room being strewn with prescription vials (Lady Chris is a pharmacist), balloons, socks, desserts and coffee. The Po- tentate loves coffee and desserts. Socks are another issue. Still find- ing socks and prescription bottles now. Drank the coffee and ate the desserts. The Second Annual Sportsmen’s Extravaganza was a huge suc- cess. I have been the Hadji editor for just over 14 years. Itis time to pass on the responsibility of this publication ofthe Zenobia Shrine to another editor. I also want to thank the contributions of PastPotentates, and the two Recorders I worked with to com-plete each issue. I also want to thank the authors of unitand club submissions to the Hadji. There were two PastPotentates, when in office, who always called me on aSunday evening, about 8 p.m., to discuss the upcomingHadji issue, as I was about to watch my favorite programof the week. I want them to know that I knew how toquickly push the record button on my remote when Iheard the phone ring.

Next month, the Nobles will be introduced to the newHadji editor.

Dear Nobles,Grace and peace to you and

yours. The wonder of the seasonis all around us. The leaves havechanged and the trees are all butbare of foliage. It’s November innorthwest Ohio and southeasternMichigan. For you who followcollege football, this is a time ofleague championships or justwait until next year.November also is the month

of the beginning of the holidayseason. The Great AmericanFeast of Thanksgiving begins therush to buy, buy, buy. Yet, thereis more to be thankful for than aturkey and a pumpkin pie. It is inknowing that as Shrine/Masonsyou help boys and girls withphysical and developmentalneeds. What greater joy is therethan to know that a smile can begiven, a leg can be straightenedor a prosthetic can make thelame walk. Can there be a greater reason

to be thankful than to know bythe loyalty of your obligations alittle one can also be thankfulthat you cared enough to help?I ask that when you sit down

to your holiday meal, be it muchor meager, remember to givethanks to the Great Creator. Praythat on the Trestle Board of Lifeyou may be thankful for yourblessings. We can never thankour Creator enough, but as youlook around you have enough forwhich to be thankful.

The parade stepped off at10:00 a.m., on Saturday, and asI was getting dressed, I found Ihad pulled a Charlie Larkins andforgotten my half hose (rats). Onreflection, I think I could havemarched anyway, somewhere inthe center, and no one wouldhave noticed. Anyway, JohnnyMac was placed dead center inthe front row, and looked great

representing Zenobia. Penny andI watched near the end, and weresurprised that we could hear theband coming several minutes be-fore we could see them. Wouldthe wind carry the sound?Friday nights meal with all

Zenobia people was excellent atthe Cork and Bottle. Saturdaynight we dined by ourselves. The weather was cool, but

bright and sunny under a cloud-less sky, the libations were plen-tiful, as were the fineconversations, altogether a goodtime in a well-attended hospital-ity room, but the trip was a bitdisappointing for us since Icould not be with the otherpipers, part of the reason we at-tended.

The “2nd Annual” SportsmanExtravaganza, Zenobia’s newestfundraiser, has been completed.Wow, what another terrificevent! But, more significant wasthe way Nobles stepped up tomake it a success. Each of youshould be proud of the way yousupported this activity. Greatjob, Zenobia! Remember, it willbe returning in 2019, the firstSaturday in October! Now, we turn our focus to the

Circus. It is time to get busy onthose Circus ads. We are already

into November. For ads to re-ceive the 10 percent discount, they must be turned in, with pay-ment, by December 1!What can you do? Contact

those who took out ads in pastyears. Complete the simplepaper work. Attach the payment(and revised ad, if there is one)and drop them off at Zenobia. That is it. Also, you can help an-other Noble get started with adsby going with him for support.Often, it only takes one time andthe Noble will take it from there.

Each Noble is asked to sell atleast one ad. If each Noble did,Zenobia would more than dou-ble its profit. Have you doneyour part?Every unit is challenged to

sell at least five new ads. This ishow everyone can contribute tothe Circus. Plus, each unit willreceived commission checks forthese ads to assist their treasury.A win-win!Finally, we will again be of-

fering the 2-for-1 Holiday Saleat Zenobia. These will be avail-able starting November 26 andending December 21. This isopen to Shriners, Masons, fam-ily and friends, so spread theword. This is the only time allperformances will be offered atthis price. If you would like toassist with ticket sales at Zeno-bia, contact Teri at (419) 661-9200 or Dennis Gable at (419)603-8053. We need your help.Get your ads. Turn them in.

Sell at least one new ad!Thank you for your continued

support of our Circus.

ZENOBIA CAMPERSHello again from all of your Zenobia Campers!I am a little sad to see No-

vember arrive. That means thatour Camp Outs have come to aclose. True, we continue to gettogether somewhere for a CampIn, however it is not the same!We go to a restaurant and orderfrom their menu, share thefriendships and stories, but nocampfires or sitting out under thestars. Boy do I miss that!!For our September Camp

Out, John and Brenda were ourWagon Masters. They madearrangements with the HancockCounty Fairgrounds in Findlay, for our Camp Out on the 13th-15th. We had our choice of sites,as we were the only ones there. It started with a trip to the

Beer Barrel Pizza and Grill forthe evening meal, then back fora campfire. Friday started with pastries

and coffee at the Wagon Mas-ters. Then a trip to the Neff Mil-itary Museum. After that, a tripto Dietsch Ice Cream for a “lit-tle?” snack. Next was a visit tothe Rail Road Museum. After thelong day, it was back to the campground for a potluck. They werejoined by myself (Rod andEllen) as we were unable to at-tend the entire weekend. Saturday started with break-

fast at Famous South SideRestaurant and then a tour of theHancock County Museum. Theevening meal was at the DarkHorse Restaurant, where theywere joined by Tom and Cindy, who were unable to join for theentire weekend.Thank you John and Brenda! Our last Camp Out for the

year was October 11-14, and hadRod and Ellen as our WagonMasters. They took us to CampPerry. Now we move into our Camp

In season. The first – Novem-ber – will have Dave and Pat asWagon Masters. This also willbe our installation of officers. Until next month, keep the

CAMPFIRES burning! Rod

MYSTICSIt has been a fun parade sea-

son. The joy and smiles of all thepeople along the parade routesare such a feel good feeling. When your a parader and

people see a “Zenobia Shrinegroup” so many adults have toldme how it brings back fondmemories of their own child-hoods of when they would seethe Clowns and their red firetruck, or the red cars of theLancers, Hornets and their minibikes, the pretty red Jeepsters orthe Corvairs, the Hillbillies, theShrine Band and the bagpipes ofthe Highlanders and those carpetriders the Mystics. Many otherunits and groups that are now orused to represent ZenobiaShrine. The stories of these people re-

mind us that we are ambassa-dors, we should visit with andtalk to the public before and afterthe parades. That may open thedoor to talk about Masonic BlueLodges and Shrine.Let’s all work to get new

members to join a Blue Lodgethis year.Hope to see you at the next

stated meeting.Howard the Genie

I inform you that the GreatLakes Shrine Patrol is no longer.VP Dennis Gable and Past Po-tentate of Zenobia chaired themeeting at GLSA held in Sep-tember. He said that in additionto Zenobia, Mizpah, Mohammedand Medinah Shrine Centerswere present. Medinah andZenobia were the last two Tem-ples to field a team and that wasseveral years back. This was a hard decision how-

ever, our members are gettingolder and a lot of us have physi-cal limitations. While we are re-placing ourselves with youngermembers, it is not happeningquickly enough. Antioch andMedinah are switching over tomotorized units, such as scootersand Segways. We at Zenobia arelooking at the very same thing. Our unit is far from dead. We

meet the first Thursday atMichael’s Restaurant in Toledo, where we hold our monthly busi-ness meeting. The second Thurs-day is Zenobia’s stated meeting. The remaining Thursdays areEuchre fun nights and believeme, they are fun. Our Old Timerssteak and corn roast and Christ-mas parties are tough to beat. Our wives meet once a month

for lunch, as well as some of ourmembers. In addition, we havebeen blessed with our invest-ments and are a top donor toZenobia. We are taking on newmembers, so come on down andlook us over on the first Thursday. We will even buy you dinner.Get well wishes to Don

Eicher, Bill Marsh, Judy Evans, the Stuckers and Fred Fether.
