Welcome to November Rally
I hope you all have a great second last
rally for the year!
With the warm weather approaching
fast don’t forget to make sure you
bring a water bucket along to pony
club and make sure you have lots of
drinking water for your horses, the
wash bay is also there if you need to
give them a hose.
I hear several of our members have
been out competing over the past
month so don’t forget to send
something in to the newsletter so we
all know what you have been up to.
Monbulk Pony Club has started a
riders without horses program each
Saturday morning at the grounds, if
you know anyone who may be
interested please let Stuart Goggin
know. Thanks Stuart for all the hard
work you have put into organising this
great program.
We also held a Show Jump Clinic with
Charlie Sweeney in October – another
great day offered for our members.
I attended the PCAV Annual General
Meeting and learnt so much about
what other clubs have been doing and
all the great opportunities that PCAV
can offer its members, the most
important thing I learnt is that we need
to focus on what our members
interests are and ensure we cater for
all members, so if you have an interest
in any equine discipline and you would
like further instruction or
demonstrations please let Carola or
myself know and we will do our best to
see what we can arrange.
One guest speaker at the AGM was a
young man who has recently started
competing in Tetrathlon’s which
include Running, Riding, Swimming
and Shooting, this young man has now
been to 7 countries in 9 months
competing on the world stage and is
trying out for the 2020 olympics,
before doing Tetrathlon’s he had never
left Australia– the moral of the story is
you never know where pony club
could take you and we can’t help you
get there if you don’t let us know what
you want to do.
Here is a small list of the things you
may be interested in doing but just
haven’t tried yet:
• Polocross
• Games
• Tetrathlon
• Pentahalon (swimming,
showjumping, fencing)
• Working Equitation
• Showing
• Dressage
• Eventing
• Combined Training
• Western Pleasure
• Endurance riding
• Reining
• Archery on horse back (not PCAV
approved)
• Handy Mount
• Navigation Rides
• Trail Riding
• Polo
Anything else you may have seen or
heard about please let us know,

Hello Monbulk Pony Club,
Welcome to the November Rally!
Congratulations to the Benjamin and
Patrick Goggin attending the Mini Horse
Trials at PCV Park last weekend. Both
Boys rode like seasoned professionals,
and represented Monbulk Pony Club
perfectly. Well done Goggins, look
forward to your next adventure!
Don't forget if you have been Out &
About to share your story with all of us.
We all love seeing what you get up to
in-between Rally Days!
A few things to mention for this
rally, Shetland & Friesian groups will join
together due to low expected numbers.
Gear Check will done by your Coach in
the First Session. Please be ready for
them at 9:50am. There is plenty of time
to warm up after you have had your
Gear Checked, Walking Pace Only
untill directed by your Coach
Our In House Dressage Series will wrap
up this month. Please make sure you
have learnt your Tests, will be Test B in
what ever you are currently graded: EG
if you are graded 5 for Dressage, you
will ride 5B. If you are Graded 4 in
Dressage, you will need to learn 4B. A
Parent will also be needed to act as a
penciller, its an excellent chance for
any parent who hasn't done this
before. Our Zone commitments require
annual volunteers, pencilling is a job
you may be asked to do!
Yearbook payment is due this rally
$15.00 per book needs to be paid by
either cash or EFT. If paying EFT, please
use the Riders name and Yearbook as
the ref (if there is space!) preferably
have transferred Prior to Sunday Rally
Day. The books will be released on our
December Christmas Rally.
** And to celebrate the Melbourne Cup
Carnival, a Parent Hat competition will
be held on Rally Day! The best/fanciest
hat will be given a special prize with a
Gold Coin Donation. Handmade
Creations is the idea, im sure your kids
would love to help!!!
Looking forward to Sunday, and have a
great rally.

Monbulk Pony Club – RWOH Update
Welcome to the new members of the Monbulk Pony Club who have joined to become part of the RWOH program, as their skills build we hope to see some of the riders at the main rallies
Our RWOH members meet at 9am every Saturday, and split into two groups. One group is focused on theory and practical horse ownership, the other group focuses on riding. The program itself is centered around the PCAV syllabus, with some extra topics thrown in. Our theory and practical sessions are conducted off the horse, and will include topics such as
• Horse Anatomy and physiology • Horse Ground handling • Grooming • Equipment and maintenance • Knots! • Rugging • Feet management • Feeding and associated issues • Medical management including
worming etc • Floating • Emergency management, when to call
a vet, bushfire response, first aid, etc
So far this term we have taught our riders about horse markings, and the points of the horse, and they have learnt how to measure a horses height. You can see some of the posters they created on the notice board. They were each asked to pick a horse from a magazine and identify the markings and points, then they were asked to guess their size and come up with an appropriate stable and full competition name. Some interesting choices there, although no one seemed to like my
suggestion of Meat Cleaver… Oh well.
Our other group focuses on riding, with the very capable Cindy an expert in working with children. Our riding sessions will focus on key riding skills such as
• Mounting, including being legged up • Balance, and posture – the 3 dot seat • Control • Riding safely in groups • Rising Trot • Accurate Circles • Accurate Transitions • Canter • 2 point seat • Trot Poles • Small jumps • Mounted Games
As the riders progress through the basic balance/posture/ and control lessons, we will introduce fun mounted games to help cement the skills they learn.

Our riders have now learnt about the importance of their position, with all of them showing great riding positions
over the last couple of lessons. We are also now able to mount and dismount safely. A special mention must be made for the three helpers – without whom we would not have been able to help our riders. Mia, Sarah and Patrick help throughout the day, whether it be tacking up with the riders, or leading them. We have spent a lot of time trotting on a lead with many of the riders, and our tireless helpets have
been given the task of leading our junior riders. Well done, and it really is a pleasure seeing you enjoy this as much as the riders you are leading!

Another special mention for Carola, who has been able to attend each Saturday. It’s been very good having some help transporting the ponies to the grounds! Carola has also been able to step in and
undertake the riding instruction when Cindy has been on leave. Thanks Carola And finally a special thank you to Casper, Lulu, Paris and Bobby, who make the best school horses for our riders to learn on. If any of the Monbulk Pony club would like to help out either by leading – or setup/school horses, please contact Stuart Goggin. It would be good to see some of the club members helping these new riders to progress into the club.

PCAV Horse Trials – Oct 2017
Last weekend, the Goggin family made the
trek out to Gladysdale to attend the PCAV
Horse trials. Ben was very nervous as this
was his first competition outside of the
Winter woolies fun ring, it was also his first
complete jumping round, and his very first
time on a cross country. Ben and Lulu were
amazing, Lulu in particular demonstrated
here eventing past, by not only jumping the
cross country clear, but doing it in a nice
canter. Although I think Ben was not quite
ready for this, but nevertheless Lulu and
Ben completed the course.
Patrick had a great day, doing a nice
dressage test, despite Casper trying to do
his Casper tricks in the warm up. And then
went on to do a full jump round in a canter
with only one pole down. It was really nice
to see. Patrick was a bit upset at being
eliminated in the cross country as
unfortunately Casper decided enough was
enough, and refused too many times.
On the way home Patrick made out a list of
things he wants to work on with Casper so
he can improve for next time.
It might not sounds like much – but watching
your kids achieve something like this is a
wonderful thing, and more than covers the
years of hard work, and tears. Well Done
Pat and Ben.
On the 22nd of October Murray and I competed in the Pony Club at Geelong Royal
Show.
Geelong is known to be one of the most daunting shows in Victoria having side
shows, cart horses, cows, donkeys, flying pigs, cars, people, horses and more people
so I am so pleased that Murray behaved perfectly all day.
Murray an I had an excellent day receiving 1st in the Smartest On Parade, 1st in the
Led Handler, then going on to win the Championship, 1st in my rider over 12 years
and receiving Champion and also winning and going Champion in the Ridden
Horse over 14hh. This is such a huge achievement for me as I have been working
extremely hard for months prier to this competition and I am pleased that my work
has paid off representing Monbulk Pony Club.
15
Monbulk Pony Club Jump Clinic With
Charlie Sweeney
On the 14th October Charlie
Sweeney ran our jump clinic,
every rider learned about
safe jump setup, and also
enjoyed some very good
jump training. The following
riders came along:
• Emmersen
• Ella
• Sarah
• Patrick
• Siennna
• Maddison
Unfortunately Femke could
not make the event due to a
sick horse.
We hope you enjoyed the
day, and perhaps if we have
enough interest we will
schedule another clinic in the
summer holidays.
Please arrive promptly to each lesson, if you
are late, please ask your instructor before
joining the group if already started
If you arrive early for your session or the
instructor is not present, you may enter the
arena and wait, but you must only walk or
halt. You must not use any equipment without
the instructor present.
Have your horse and yourself looking neat and
presentable for each lesson
If you are leaving early or not attending a
lesson your group has been allocated, please
let your instructor know and advise DC.
Come to each lesson with a positive
attitude and open mind! We Never Stop
Learning and each session is a new
opportunity.
Parents, Please refrain from talking to your
child and or instructing them from the side
lines. Leave the instructing to the Coach!
MOST IMPORTANTLY HAVE FUN!!!!
ITS NICE TO BE IMPORTANT, BUT ITS MORE
IMPORTANT TO BE NICE!!
