For the real virtues are like the ten wise virgins with lamps in hand who stay hud- dled by that one door, the door of love, the door of concern for our brothers and sisters, and this door alone opens on the marriage feast where God dines with his friends. Book of Life: Remembering those who have gone to their eternal rest.

“Lord, welcome into your calm and peaceful kingdom those who have departed from this present life to be with you. Grant them rest and a place with the spirits of the just.

Give them the life that knows no age, the reward that passes not away.”

St. Ignatius Loyola

The Wise Virgins

Someone put it very well when he said that all we have to do while we are on earth is love God. And so we should not be hesitant but should know how to set about doing this, Jesus told us that the only way to do it, the only recipe for it, the only method is loving one another. . . All the paths of the virtues lead to this door. At root, all are designed just to bring us here more quickly, more cheerfully, more certainly. A virtue that does not lead us here is a virtue that has gone crazy. The only crack in the edifice, the only foothold, the only handhold, is the love of these poor beings who, like us, are so hard to love because they share our own mediocrity. And it could happen that we enjoy arriving at a fantastic level of humility, or at a poverty second to none, or at an obedience that is beyond murmur, or at a purity that is flawless; we could perhaps enjoy this — but if this humility, this poverty, this purity, this obedience has not led us to meet goodness; if the people in our house, our street, our town, are still just as hungry, just as cold, if they are still just as sad, just as gloomy, if they are still just as alone; then, though perhaps we may be heroes, we will not be among those who love God. For the real virtues are like the ten wise virgins with lamps in hand who stay hud-dled by that one door, the door of love, the door of concern for our brothers and sisters, and this door alone opens on the marriage feast where God dines with his friends. Servant of God Madeleine Delbrel Servant of God madeleine Delbrel (+1964) was a French laywoman, writer, and mystic devoted to caring for the poor and to evangelizing culture.

This is a 60 minute two-fold presenta-tion. Fr David Roehrich will address the moral and spiritual aspects of the End of Life from a Catholic Perspective on Nov. 21 at 7 pm. Speaker John Tetzloff, Advanced Case Specialist for Catholic United Financial, will be on hand to speak about the financial planning, wills, and financial issues surrounding end of life decisions. Contact local Representative Angie Jorgen-sen for more details: [email protected] or call 605-660-5814.

A tour group was riding in an elevator to the top of the Em-

pire State Building. At about the 102nd floor, a woman asked

the tour guide, “If the cables on this elevator break, do we go

up or down?” The tour guide answered, “Well, that

depends on how you are living.”

St. Teresa CCD students are collecting donations to send to Reave’s family in Puerto Rico. They are collecting goods and monetary donations. A major goal is to help them pur-chase a generator so they may have electricity. Watch for a more information coming soon in the lobby. Monetary dona-tions may be given to Erin Stephens or the office.
