Worship Schedule

Baptism:

Celebrated at scheduled times in the year. Preparation class is required. Contact the parish office.

Reconciliation: Saturdays at 4:30-5:00 PM and by appointment.

First Holy Communion: Preparation & reception in 2nd Grade in Religious Education Program.

Confirmation: Preparation every other year for High School Juniors and Seniors. Contact the parish office.

Anointing of the Sick: Celebrated on the First Friday of the month at the 9:00 Mass or when requested.

Marriage:

Six months prior notice is required. All engaged couples must participate in the marriage preparation program.

Contact the parish office. Please notify the parish office of a parishioner’s request for communion in the hospital or at home.

The Lectionary for Mass—Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time First Reading: Corrupt kings and princes who have failed to heed God’s Word are the addressees of these verses from Wisdom. After reprimanding the leaders for oppressing the lowly and judging unjustly, the author of Wisdom exhorts them to find Wisdom. She is always present seeking to instruct those open to learning her ways. Watch for her to do so is a wise and prudent decision. Responsorial Psalm 63: The author of the psalm has a deep-seated desire for God that puts words to our own soul’s longing for the Lord. David is often considered to be the author of this psalm and to have written it while wandering in Judah’s wilderness. Wilderness passages in life are common human experiences. We can empathize with David’s thirst for God and his desire to gaze on the Lord in the sanctuary. Second Reading: As we approach the end of the liturgical year, our reading from 1 Thessalonians focuses on the end time, when Christ will come again. Paul thought that Jesus would come again in his lifetime, so he dedicated much of his proclamation of the Gospel to how Christians were to live in the interim period, between now and then. In this passage, Paul reminds the Thessalonians that at the Second Coming those who have died in Christ will rise with him. Then those who are still alive will join them and live with the Lord forever. Gospel: Today’s Gospel is the parable of the foolish and wise virgins. It is a parable about the kingdom of heaven and who will enter and who will be left outside the door wanting entrance. The five wise virgins have oil for their lamps and the five foolish do not. The wise do not share their oil, fearing they will not have enough for themselves, leading us to wonder whether they responded appropriately or not to the foolish virgins. Ultimately, Jesus’ point in telling the parable is for us to be prepared to enter the kingdom of heaven. REMEMBRANCE OF THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED We invite you to write down the names of your departed family members and friends in the Book of Names of the Dead located by the statue of the Blessed mother at the sanctuary. This will be our way to remember and pray for our departed loved ones, a powerful expression of our Christian faith regarding death. All Souls Day offering envelopes with the names of your loved ones for remembrance will be placed at the sanctuary throughout the month of November.

St. Nicholas Celebration - Religious Education fundraising event

will be on Sunday, December 3rd from 9:30am - 2pm at the hall. If you would like to volunteer and can help with baked goods, candy cane, auction items, decorations and/or hall setup, please sign up on the sheet located on the table at the front entryway of the church. Proceeds benefit our vibrant Religious Education program. Donations for candy canes and decorations may be placed in the orange container next to the sign up sheet.
