Benefits of the NS Nominee Program

• Faster processing

Skilled Worker (SW) Stream• Focused on high skilled applicants (NOC 0, A, B) with permanent,

fulltime job offer from a NS employer and NOC C applicants based on local labour market needs

• Applicants on a post-grad work permit in NOC D occupation are ineligible to apply

Minimal Requirements:

• Age 21 to 55

• Canadian high school equivalency of 12 years

• Related work experience of 12 months (1,560 hours or more) within the last 5 years; NOC C requires 6 months work experience in NS.

• English or French language ability to a CLB Level 5 (NOC 0, A, B); CLB Level 4 (NOC C) plus mandatory language test

• Financial resources and settlement supports

Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry (NSEEE)• Mirrors federal Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

• Focused on highly skilled applicants (NOC 0, A, B) who can quickly attach to the labour market.

Step 1: Apply to Nova Scotia Nominee Program• Meet eligibility requirements

• Prepare and submit complete application package

• Electronic copies accepted for SW and NSEEE

• Hard copies accepted for Entrepreneur, New Grad Entrepreneur, SW, NSEEE

• Express Entry applications require registering in the Express Entry System (EE Number and JV Code)

• Pass completeness check

• Processing under 3 months *

Step 2: Apply to Immigration, Refugee, Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as Provincial Nominee• Meet admissibility requirements

• IRCC has final say in awarding permanent residency

Business StreamsEntrepreneur stream

Aimed at individuals wishing to start or acquire a business while settling permanently in Nova Scotia.

Similar to other provincial business streams

International Graduate Entrepreneur stream

For individuals who have graduated from a Nova Scotian university or NSCC and have started a business and intend to settle permanently in Nova Scotia.

International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

• Completion of a Nova Scotia post-secondary diploma or degree of at least 2 years fulltime study from a recognized university in Nova Scotia or Nova Scotia Community College

• Must reside in Nova Scotia during the academic program

• At least one year’s continuous experience actively managing and owning your current Nova Scotia business (100% ownership minimum)

• Have a valid Post-Graduation work permit at the time of application

• At least 21 years of age

• CLB 7 in either English or French (listening, speaking, reading and writing) taken within 2 years prior to Expression of Interest

• Demonstrate an intention to settle in Nova Scotia

Additional Eligibility Criteria

• Applicant must demonstrate that they are receiving compensation in the form of a salary from the business, which must at a minimum meet the Low Income Cut Off (LICO) as defined by Statistics Canada.

Additional criteria when purchasing an existing business

• The Nova Scotia based business must have been in continuous operation in Nova Scotia by the same owner for the previous five years.

• Similar employment terms and conditions offered to the existing staff.

• Must have created a minimum of one full-time or equivalent part-time employment opportunity for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Nova Scotia.
