Are you looking for your

Campus President?

I have moved to a new location in our building,

located on the ground floor

across from the Student

Records office. In addition

to my new location, I have

a new schedule which allows me to be available for evening

students as well as day students. I will on-campus Mondays

and Thursdays until 7:30PM. Please feel free to stop by and

talk to me about your educational experience at ECPI

University. Please understand that challenges may exist from

time to time and I hear your voice and am ALWAYS working

towards resolving any challenges we experience. Some challenges take longer than others, but I do not want you to

feel as if your voice is not being heard and or considered.

Our November term is starting soon and all students should

have schedules for the term. If you have not been scheduled,

please stop by and see me.

In addition, I am pleased to see our students working towards

their educational goals. Keep up the good work!

James Weaver, Campus President

Phi Theta Kappa

Students in ECPI’s B.S. degree programs take the Arts & Sciences Capstone class, CAP480. As part of this class, students

take the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP)

exam. This is the “standardized, nationally normed assessment

program from ACT that enables postsecondary institutions to assess, evaluate, and enhance student learning outcomes and general

education program outcomes” (from act.org/caap). Mr. Penberthy

and ECPI would like to congratulate these students for scoring in the 90th percentile or better:

Career Services Tip of the Quarter

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

In an economic downturn, any jobseeker is wise to achieve as many professional credentials as possible, as long as they are

relevant to the positions you seek. Professional certifications are a way of validating your college education, your knowledge, your

skills and your abilities. In addition, they show that you are able to set goals and achieve them.

If you are unaware of professional certifications available in your field of study, please speak with your instructors, Career

Services or seek information from our campus library. When the competition for a job is very tough, certifications are one way you can distinguish yourself. While there are many colleges out there, there only a handful of professional certifications; thus,

employers are familiar with them.

When choosing a certification, make sure you do your research and answer these questions:

1. Is the certification relevant to the field in which I want to work and is it in demand?

2. Is the certification widely recognized by employers in my chosen field?

3. Will the certification make me more marketable to employers?

4. What types of jobs will the certification help me achieve?

5. Do I have the prerequisite training/experience to successfully study for and pass this certification test?

6. What are the specifics: cost, test sites, test dates, study materials, etc. needed to start the process of obtaining this

certification?

Most importantly, each program of study at ECPI University includes some professional certification (s). Taking advantage of

this benefit can make a big difference in your marketability to employers. If you are unaware of this aspect of your program, please

see your program department head, an instructor, and/or the Librarian, Ms. Bell.

There are new computers in the Library, room G05, and room 109. We have made some

changes in the classrooms with the introduction of VMware workstations. These virtual

workstations allow students to install applications and to act as administrator for the machine.

In addition, EET students now have access to a virtual computer that can run a pre-

configured Linux Fedora machine. This machine contains a number programs that are useful for circuitry classes. Students are also able to access XEN Desktop virtual machines with Multisim.

Access to these machines by web allows students to work anywhere via an Internet connection.

IT Services is continuously looking into making the classrooms more accessible for students’

learning needs.

Please remember that no personal computers are to connect to any physical medium on our

campus. This also includes power outlets in the computer labs. No classroom computer systems

are to be disconnected or moved for any reason.

On another note, wireless devices no longer need to be inspected prior to connecting to the wireless network. The wireless net-

work you should use is named ECPINET.

Practical Nursing Program

In The Classroom

The Practical Nursing program started their fourth group since the program’s initiation less than a year ago. With 56 current

students, the burgundy of their scrubs is making quite an impression on the community of ECPI University and local health-care

providers. The senior class recently held an extremely successful health fair that included helpful information on a variety of common ailments as well as a free blood-pressure screening. The seniors are also busy raising money for their pinning

ceremony. They had both a hotdog lunch and a Krispy Kreme Doughnut sale this past month.

Program director, Yvette Spees, has welcomed several new instructors for the program as well as creating contacts with some

new clinical sites to really prepare our students for careers in the nursing field. The nursing department would like to welcome

Larisa Hogan to a new role as the Nursing Administrative Assistant. She has brought with her several years of experience working

at ECPI into this role increasing the efficiency of the nursing department.
