INTERNATIONAL AUTOS TECH SESSION

Becky and John Bell hosted the Fall Tech Session, with presenta-tions by Eric Paige of Mercedes-Benz U.S.A., and Steffano Panozzo of Milwaukee Alloy Wheel. Over 50 members enjoyed a buffet lunch, a presentation of the new Mercedes SLS Gullwing and a talk on alloy wheel repair, door prizes, and an up close and personal viewing session with the car. 4 seconds is all it would take for the Gullwing SLS AMG to reach 60 MPH, and if you have a little more time to drive the car, you can actu-ally do zero to 100 MPH, and back again to zero in less than 12 sec-

onds. That is the performance level of the new Mercedes Gullwing, ac-cording to Eric Paige, the Mercedes Performance Specialist who pre-sented the new car to us at Interna-tional Autos. But as Eric told me, don't worry about handling the 563 HP machine, it can be driven by many people due to it's adaptive control system. Drive it hard, it performs rapidly, but go

slow and the car re-sponds like your typical E-class. Lothar Altmann was given the privilege of starting up the car so we could all hear it, and the sound was so intense and powerful, well, it would have scared your pit bull back into the doghouse tout suite..... Steffano Panozzo gave a presen-

tation on the care and feeding of al-loy wheels, and talked with members at length, answering questions con-cerning wheel problems. Following that was a tour of Steffano's repair facility inside his truck. After the buffet lunch, and door prizes, there was still time for mem-

bers to see the latest Mercedes models in the showroom, and take pictures with the Gullwing.

GENEVA LAKE Drive to Dine The warm autumn sun was glinting off the chrome hardware of the wooden boats at the Ge‐

neva Lake Antique and Classic Boat Show on Sunday September 26th. Members of our MBCA ‐ Wisconsin

Section and fellow club members from Illinois strolled the docks of the Abbey Resort Marina in Fontana on Geneva Lake to get a glimpse of

these icons of a bygone era.

Some members also took in the sites at the Geneva Lake Classic Car Rally at The Lodge at Geneva Ridge on nearby Lake Como. Twenty‐two members gathered afterwards at Chuck’s Restau‐rant on Geneva Lake to share their im‐pressions over beers and sandwiches. Let’s consider doing this event for both sections again next year on the last weekend of September 2011. Thanks to Bernd & Christine Kampe for hosting this entertaining event.

GL350 BlueTEC review

According to an autoblog review on 8/3/2010 “ the appeal of the GL-class is the roomy 7-passenger cabin, gener-ous cargo capacity… and ability to tow upwards of 7,500 pounds.” It goes on to say “ what immediately impresses with the GL is its uncanny ability to hide its mass.” “It’s nearly as big as a Cadillac Escalade…” but “is 400 pounds lighter than the American and its entire plat-form is stiffer.”

“It boasts a 3.0 liter all alumi-num six cylinder turbodiesel… delivering 210HP @3800RPM and 400 pound-feet of torque... EPA rates the GL350 BlueTEC at 23mpg high-way.” Our member Nancy P. has one and rou-tinely achieves better than that.

RALLYE PERFECTION! Saturday, October 9, 2010 proved to be the perfect day for the Wisconsin Section’s Autumn Leaves Rallye with fourteen cars participating in the fifty‐first fall rallye for the section. Rallyemaster Dean Pearson was at his best providing the rallyists with both an interesting and “tricky” route. This was a gimmick rallye, with mileage and questions determining the positions. The route in‐cluded some loops for cars to pass each other in the oppo‐site directions (not always because they should have) en‐hanced with Dean’s favorite gimmick; assumed right‐hand turns at tee intersections. A few special “directions” challenged those who didn’t read ahead or carefully. Still, the sun shown all day for those who exercised their odometers excessively and all made it over the course in time for dinner. First Place and the travelling trophy was awarded to Jim and Cathy Loseke from Green Bay. Scott and Colleen

Lowry, from Oconomowoc, followed a close Second Place with Ron and Pat Sdun taking Third Place. The place winners received a unique desk set featuring a genuine M‐B shift lever. These coveted trophies were hand‐crafted by member, Wim Vanden‐berg. More members joined the rallyists for a delicious dinner at The Hartland Inn fol‐lowed by the Annual Meeting and door prizes. Thank you to all the attendees for making this a fun event and to Nancy Pear‐son for handling all the other details, regis‐tration and the dinner.

President’s Message...

The 2010 Annual Meeting was held at the Hartland Inn, after the Fall Rally ban‐quet. A summary:

‐ the treasurer's report was read by Treasurer Frank Lubinski, and approved. ‐ the minutes of the last annual meeting were read by Secretary Dan Hellenberg, and approved.

‐ 3 board members had terms expiring in Oct., 2010, namely A. Stockhausen, P. Samolinski, and B. Sirny.

‐ nominees for the 3 positions were A. Stockhausen, P. Samolinski, and Wim van den Berg.

‐ there were no other nominees, nor did any come forward at the meeting, so Stockhausen, Samolinski, and van den Berg were all confirmed by a vote, and will serve 3 yr. terms (Oct. 2010 ‐ 2013).

The next event is the Christmas Party, to be held at the Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove. This year the party is scheduled for a Saturday, December 11th.

Into the new year, 2011, our first event will be the Chicago Auto Show bus trip. I want to encourage all of you to sign up early (before Jan. 15th) for this event since the bus capacity is limited, and we may need to open up the event to other car clubs to get a full bus. Once the bus is filled, we cannot accept entrants. First come, first served.
